Hi everyone Got a bit of a dilemma coming up and I thought I'd seek opinions. At the minute I have a (company) Focus 2.0 tdci Titanium, around 2 1/2... -
I am a recovery service, I am 12 Feb 2008 (Forum)
That would be because the interior light switch on the driver's door doesn't work. After a few minutes charging, the Astra starts and runs sweetly. I recommended a new battery as the concept of having the car serviced reliably seems alien to her. She gushes thanks and leaves. Comments welcome. -
MGF P Reg Coolant Overheating 9 Jun 2007 (Forum)
On my journey home, I was driving mostly at speed and therefore the airflow I suspect keeps everything cool, I pulled up and left the engine running. Temp gauge went up to one below middle bar - which is not something to worry about I believe - and I left the car running idle for about 8-10 mins. The gauge never went above this level, but sure enough, despite new cap, after 8-10 mins the steam begin to rise out of the back of the car again! -
A car drowned in the sea..... 6 Jan 2003 (Forum)
However, in the last couple of months a couple of funny things have happened. First, the petrol cap release cable snapped (obviously this runs from the driver's footwell back through the car to the petrol cap), the dealer said it had "just snapped" and there was no reason for it. It was replaced under warranty. And then, just before christmas, the boot release cable went as well, the dealer said it had siezed, again, no explanation. -
Calling all engineers and web whizzos? 14 Oct 2002 (Forum)
d like to pick everyone?s brains on an issue that is vexing me but one you probably haven?t come across before: that of running modern car engines on LEADED fuel. Background Here in Jordan almost all the second-hand cars imported into the country are sourced from Europe (Germany provides 75% of total, mostly BMWs and Mercs) or the USA, i.e. are catalyst equipped. -
Car has serious problem - HELP! 27 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Nothing has been changed except the exhaust which was replaced after grounding out on a tree stump. The CAT has been removed. A power curve run this morning was booked to create a snapshot prior to any further work. I was expecting maybe some boost creep after 5000rpm, instead l was told the car has a serious loss of power issue. SYMPTOMS: comparing the two power graphs. -

CAR OF THE YEAR POLL RESULTS 5 Jan 2002 (Forum)
DREAM CAR OF THE YEAR Was the New Porsche 911 Turbo, closely followed by the Aston Martin Vanquish, with the Lamborghini Murcielago and new Mercedes SL running equal third and the Bentley Arnage behind them. USED CAR OF THE YEAR (£5K TO £15K) (The cars we actually buy) was a joint victory shared between four cars: the VW Passat TDI, the Ford Focus, the Rover 75 and the VW Golf Mk IV. -
The perfect cheap used car 29 Sep 2025 (Forum)
First appraisal done now it’s on my drive and it’s in near perfect condition inside and out, drives exactly as it did when new and is genuinely vast inside. It managed more than 40mpg on the run home and is quieter and better on the road than the much more costly CRV it replaces. A win win so far and all for a fraction of the cost of another new SUV or large estate. The good lady wife is of course less than impressed with having to slum it down among the plebs on the road again but if she wants another SUV she can fund it. -
Tyre performance and tread depth 20 Nov 2024 (Forum)
So my questions are; At what depth do you replace your tyres and would you feel confident running them to the legal limit if they were certified for that? Do you think we will now see many budget brands disappear from the market as they won't be able meet the required grade , or do you think these new regulations will simply be as vague and self regulating as the current EU tyre labeling system? -
Alfa Romeo - Avoiding a category or a write off? 23 Oct 2024 (Forum)
Hi, My parked car was recently hit by a hit and run driver. The other partys insurance company has admitted responsibility as there is CCTV of the incident. The car is a low value car, but ive spend thousands on it to make it the best version of itself. -
Vauxhall VXR8 - Bought a broken car help 10 Oct 2024 (Forum)
It's costing me a fortune on car rentals and I feel like if I ever get the car back that it will just fail again. Also when I get it back I'll have no warranty as it will have run out. I've had it on my drive about 2 weeks since March and drove it 4 days. What should I do? should I continue to wait? Am i entitled to a full refund? I'm guessing it's a long process and expensive if I was go take it to court? -
Nissan Qashqai - Low miles (little service history) Vs Higher (fsh) 16 May 2024 (Forum)
I know the general advice is to avoid low mileage vehicles, as they could have done a lot of short runs, whereas higher mileage ones have been used consistently and probably for longer journeys... But if there's a significant difference in the mileage, am wondering if there will be less "worn" or "coming to replacement time" parts on the lower mileage vehicle... -
The time has come 19 Apr 2024 (Forum)
SWMBO is expecting a wee late surprise and has now dictated that my elderly Toyota Avensis estate (which she’s never liked) has got to go. She has a Nissan Leaf for daily commuting and local running but we need a second car that is capable of taking us further afield when required, something the Leaf isn’t any use at thanks to our woeful public charging network and EV’s dislike of the Scottish winter weather - which causes the range to plummet. -
EV, PHEV or Petrol???? - What to buy next???? 11 Apr 2024 (Forum)
We are a 3 car family. A fancy convertible for summer, a cheapo run around small petrol hatchback thats worth nothing, and a medium sized petrol SUV thats does 30 mpg and has high tax. The convertible is summer use mainly and does under 2k miles a year, the hatchback is the runaround, 5k and the SUV when needed...towing 2 ton, using the cargo space, longer trips, maybe 2k a year. -
Vauxhall Zafira Tourer - Zafira tourer information. 30 Jan 2024 (Forum)
I tend to buy a car and run it till it dies (around 13 years old ) and now is the time for a newer car, the last two cars model a zafira which not being a fan it was reliable and a xsara picasso which I got cheap but have never been happy with ,with regards reliability so much so that it's time for a newer car. -
1.0/1.4 Tsi - Skoda Octavia 16 Nov 2023 (Forum)
My thinking around considering the 1.0 litre in an Octavia, is based on wanting some space in the boot for grand children's paraphernalia (& the odd dog) Plus, though real world mpg between the 1 & 1.4 would probably be similar, there are attractions in terms of other running costs, such as insurance & a newer car at purchase. Quick look on Autotrader, same spec' (SE) similar miles (54K) 2017 - 1.0: 9K, 1.4: 10K. l've read forum members with the 1.0 litre Tsi in vehicles such as the Seat Ibiza & Skoda Fabia & latterly the Scala, have been very impressed. -
4 diif makes - Electric car range 4 Apr 2023 (Forum)
It came to light while watching this that the fuel cover on 1 of the cars was electronically operated, and with zero power he had no way of getting it open to be able to charge the car up. While you would never run a car until it stop, and to be honest they all had fair warning from the car to find a charging point, it never occurred to me that this would be an issue, I also question why they would do it in the first place since the whole point of having a secure cover on the fuel tank is to prevent people from stealing fuel from your car. -
New family SUV required 11 Aug 2022 (Forum)
I don’t know if I should be swaying towards diesel for the motorway miles I do one day a week or stick to a petrol for the day to day running’s it’ll do for the majority of the week. My budget is £14k with the hope I’ll get some on a part ex for my current VW golf. ( I can’t be bothered with the hassle of selling private appreciate I’ll not get as much). -
Volkswagen Golf Estate 2L BlueMotion - Advise on Car 16 Jul 2022 (Forum)
