  • Local Police parked on double yellow lines tonight 2 Feb 2008 (Forum)
The pair of Police Officers were out in the street booking parents parked 'illegally?. Talk about double standards? Could I have issued the police van with a 'Citizen?s Parking Ticket' ? Should I have taken a photo on my camera phone, {like traffic wardens now do,} sought witnesses and then sent my 'evidence' to the Chief Constable. I will do this next time! Or is it one rule for the Rozzers and another for the rest of us?

Chap selling a 2006 AUDI A4 AVANT S LINE QUATTRO 3.0TDI AUTOMATIC for less than £13k. I answered ("email the seller") his AutoTrader ad and he has replied that he's in Austria (business went bust) and can't get any price for a r-h drive car from local dealers.

I suppose I should add that while I'm not a tree-hugging pinko liberal, I do think that if I can avoid chucking more noxious fumes into the atmosphere than is strictly necessary, while I go about my daily business, I should. So it bothers me that my car does this. s

  • Driving in Ireland 3 Sep 2007 (Forum)
It seems that black is the fashionable colour for new cars in Ireland - so many black cars. Because of taxation a lot of 4x4's have blanked out rear side windows coloured as the vehicle's paintwork. I don't know if this loophole still applies. Also boy racers like to blank out the rear side windows of their cars too, in body colour.
  • What makes you love a car? 1 Sep 2007 (Forum)
ve only loved three cars in just under 30 years of car ownership (and ?stewardship? where company cars were concerned) ? that?s 19 cars in total. They were: Beetle 1303 ? my first car; I thought it was wonderful and was genuinely sad to see it go. Mk II Golf GTI 16V ? bought soon after they were introduced (1987). Absolutely superb build quality and, with 137 bhp (in a relatively light car) I could be pretty much the quickest on the road.

I currently work in Oxford /live in london that means my commute regularly sees me 'observing the speed limit' down the M4 / M3 what did I see heading westwards on the M3 thursday 3 ugly brown audi's (looked like A2's) all new, all with some type of strobe mini light stack on their roof's, all doing well over the ton and racing in convoy. then I remembered last month on the M4 seeing the EXACT same hue on 4 volvo C class estates (with the same type of light stack) again heading westwards.
  • Unsure what to do now.. 11 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Hello, if you read the tech notes you might have read that i brought a proton coupe off my mate who had had it on his drive for the last 8 months, anyhow was intending to fix the brakes on the rear, handbrake not working then valet and sell for a tiny profit, any way, i got it back home saturday after picking it up and it drove really well, not sure why i was suprised for an S reg, any way did the valet, looked nice cleaned the recaro's up lovely then proceeded to take it the petrol station when half way there at 40mph realised i had not shut the bonnett, so it flew up demoloshing the windscreen and bending the bonnett quite bad.
  • Farewell faithful VW 13 Apr 2007 (Forum)
It has now gone to a good home and I am left with my recently acquired 12 year old Defender 90. With a spare set of wheels and Vredestein M & S tyres we had some real adventures over the years, and at yesterdays MOT it only needed new pads and brake pipes. On a long test drive today ...it ran smooth as silk, incorporating furniture removal for a friend...no point in wasting diesel, and over the years returned a consistent 30/35 mpg with absolutely no oil needed between changes.
  • 97 1.6 Primera veering left 12 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Should the tracking have been done so that the steering wheel is dead centre when going in a straight line or would that require the steering wheel to be removed? The car was previously fine on it's firestones. Is it possible that the new tyre(s) could be causing this? The tyre co. have been helpful so far but I am not sure what to do next.
  • The good service thread - Vol 1 17 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Also at the time I booked the last scheduled service - which cost little more than £100 - they had an offer of one year?s free AA roadside assistance. I had made a mental note to cancel my current breakdown cover (which is through my insurer) when the AA paperwork came through. Eight months later I remember this and realised that the AA paperwork had never materialised, I mentioned this when contacting the dealer to arrange for what was in effect a minor service and a small repair relating to the airbag system.
  • In the market for new car - please help 2 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I passed my test two years ago and my first car which I still have now is a 3 door 1.4 Corsa B (1998, S Reg) I have a lot of family and am now looking into an equivalent 5 door, alhough not too sure I like the 5 door Corsas (new or old style). So, I'd very much be grateful if anyone could advise me of a few decent 5 door cars that would be suitable.
  • Knackerd steering due to humps 26 Nov 2006 (Forum)
In my family we have a total of 5 cars and 1 pickup truck, 4 cars are in the UK a SAAB 900 belonging to my Dad a Fiat Punto belonging to my mother and my brother and his wife have 2 Kia,s. In Thailand I have a Nissan Maxima?Cefiro and an Isuzu Pickup. What we have noticed with the cars is that due to poor roads in Southern England and Thailand and also road calming measures , we have had to have the sterring and front suspension arms and bushes replaced about every 60,000miles , this never used to be my experience , in years past it was rare to have to change out these item so often, average cost about £600.00 Another stealth tax job creation scheme.
  • I Have A Question - Volume 158 23 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Had a burst pipe in the bathroom last night so today has been the joy of dealing with insurers, plumbers and loss adjusters. Anyway, the pipe has been capped so on to the actual question(s)..... The house is 4 years old. The plumber said the pipework was some of the worst he'd seen (I know, they all say that)....but he did point out lots of corrosion on water pipes, a couple of "uphill" waste pipes and I agree it does look shoddy.
  • Insurance claim - data protection act. 10 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Someone ran into the back of wifey's Jazz recently (which is registered and insured in my name). Other driver insured with M&S (AIG) and all above board. Decided simplest thing was to claim through my insurance company and get the car fixed through our friendly local Honda dealer. The way they work is that they have a sort of 'virtual' bodyshop manager who takes care of the whole thing, and deals with their outside paint/body contractor on our behalf.
  • X-Trail Valuation in p-ex for Subaru 19 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I was given a Glass's valuation by the dealer of £13100, but he said he would need to speak to a trader who would underwrite it. He came up with an offer of £11000 ! He said the price of 4x4's was on the floor at the moment. Do any of you in the trade think the dealer is offering below book to recoup some of the hefty discount he is offering? Incidentally, a dealer offering an almost identical car today, but £1000 more, offered me £ 12000 trade-in.
  • Number of cars per year? 18 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I do know that the Inland Revenue does not come after you if you make any profits on cars that are for personal use. I always register the car in my name or my wife?s name and sell on after a few months. I have made money on some cars and lost on others. All in all, I have just about broken even after two years of motoring ? right through this period my wife had a car for her use and I had one - not too bad in my book.
  • Driving Other Cars, Insurance Q 21 Dec 2005 (Forum)
It was a bit of a surprise when I got this facility from Budget being under 25 and all, but it is very useful thing to have-share the driving with a mate on a trip out, borrow a family car to nip to the shops, take the old man's Cooper S out for a spin etc. Renewal came through and this year driving other cars is no longer included-different under writer named on quote etc. I rang up and it seems this year Inter Hannova have declined to quote and their cheapest bunch of policies don't include it.
