Air conditioner servicing 4 Jun 2001 (Forum)
Our dealership has recently become an Air conditioning service centre. I was fairly sceptical about the viability of this but having run for a couple of months, I can now see the benefits. Air con is a creature comfort, taken for granted as long as it works. Performance drops off over the months and the driver gets used to it. Gas naturally depletes and escapes - more so if the system is not used reguarly. -
Warning!! Is this a con?? 8 Apr 2001 (Forum)
What did cross my mind was that the company may be bona fide, disagreeable as we may find the practice of extortion ( I mean clamping ). In which case there is a cloned car running round in the South. More sinister if this infact a scam where did they get the registered keeper details from? Surely not DVLA!! -

change of plan 24 Feb 2001 (Forum)
Ahh well, my H 205 turbodiesel although only 165k has reached the stage where ancilaries are starting to fail. No short runs & hants to cornwall weekly so it has to be on form. Scan of this site, HJ books & others boils my £5kmax + whatever 205 p/ex to seat ibiza turbo diesel, or 206/306 turbo job. 206/306 'coz interior of 206 & vehicle size seen remarkably close to its "bigger" bro. -
Dilemma of dilemmas of dilemmas 2 Feb 2012 (Forum)
After the travelling situation ends, my mileage will revert to something low like 7k per annum, and I will be happy to run a banger (for local duties) alongside a cheapish classic (for automotive interest). After the tying-up situation ends, I could revert to running a series of £650 1999 Mondeos...! -
Astravan 1.7 DTI 16V Y17DT 2001 - Error code P1125 Y17DT astravan G orange warning l 16 Oct 2020 (Forum)
The pipe fitting on the old boost vlave must have been cracked as it came of with the pipe fairly easily. still running the old EGR solenoid at the moment. gets to 70 mph and then the light comes on and error code P1125 boost solenoid valve. got into a bit of mobile diagnostics and the van is still running 155 KPa boost with the light off compared to 163 with the light on. but you can notice a diffference when driving. -
Where have all the good cars gone? 23 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Body damage was repaired properly and service histories maintained in order to preserve residual values and reliability. Now it’s just white goods, bought and run without a care to selling on again. I’ve a good friend with a Ford C-Max on PCP. The car has never seen the inside of a Ford workshop since and has solely and very infrequently been maintained by a local fast fit chain. -
Jaguar X-Type 2.0d 157k - Random thoughts on driving an old car - and 'trust 9 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I am very grateful for the advice I have received here from those who know far more about cars than I do. I run a 2004 x-type, 157k miles. I trust it to my local indy, always with the instruction 'do what do what needs doing, call me if the bill will be more than the car is worth'. About 6 weeks ago, I had it serviced and MoTd, asked for tracking etc. to be done, they switched wheels front to back, re-balanced them, etc. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 00 2.0 Alternator problems 18 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Got the multimeter out, checked the battery voltage, started the engine and checked it again - the voltage with the engine running was lower than with the engine stopped, so I figured it must be the alternator. Checked the price of a new one, sat down, had a cup of tea to steady my nerves and found a pre-loved one on the internet with a 90-day guarantee. -
mazda 6 diesel 2000cc sport diesel - mazda 6 2008 2000cc diesel noisey engine 13 Aug 2014 (Forum)
When starting up the car sounds rough and stinks of diesel, My questions are and am hoping there are a few mazda techs on here 1. The rough running could this be down to the oil being so diluted that it makes the engine sound rough? 2.Has anyone heard of these accellerating on their own? 3.As the oil pressure light isnt on is their a chance the big ends are still ok 4.Should I get oil changed and let the car run and see if it smoothes out and uitens down 5.Sell as spares repair and if anyone has an in idea of a value for one of these with a shot engine I know the crusher will give 300.00 but am presuming that out there there must be some one with an accident damaged one who could do with a mint shell 6 Should I selll and get as much as I can for parts i.e mirrors 50 wheels 400 cylinder head 400 turbo 250 interior 300 stereo 140 bonnet 100 wings 50 doors 50 airbags 100 am no expert on prices but think in parts I woud get a lot back from what I paid am not rich so even repair at the moment is prohibitive. -
Dacia Sandero 1.2 Access - Dacia Sandero 1.2 Access Review 7 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Road tax is £130 pa for the 1.2 petrol, but this reflects it not being the most modern engine on the block. Despite this, I'm very pleased with the running costs so far. Build quality is on a par with the Fords and Vauxhalls I have owned before, and is better than the Skoda, and MILES MILES MILES MILES MILES better then the Hyundai and Peugeots! -
Ford Mondeo - LPG? Forget it! 19 Sep 2013 (Forum)
After six return visits I was getting about 24mpg on gas and almost acceptable performance. Over time the performance tailed off and the car started to run badly, the idle was lumpy and it started to cut out whenever the foot was lifted from the throttle. Fuel consumption on gas and petrol started to get really bad and the engine management light came on. -
Mazda 6 diesel SPM CD 120TE, check engine light blinks - codes P0304 & P0342 13 Jul 2013 (Forum)
If the deviation of the interval time exceeds the preprogrammed criteria, the PCM detects a misfire in the corresponding cylinder. While the engine is running, the PCM counts the numberof misfires and calculates misfire ratio for each crankshaft revolution. If the ratio exceeds the preprogrammed criteria, the PCM determines that a misfire, which can affect emission performance, has occurred. -
Peugeot 106 - Peugeot 106 - Preheating / cold starting problem 7 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Importantly I have found that the glow-plug coil light on the dash stays on much longer than it used to (approximately 20 seconds whereas it used to be circa 6 seconds). Once the engine has been running for a while though the light doesn't even come on (so presumably the temperature sensor is working). I have also checked the connections to glow plug controller and a couple of the wires in the wiring loom connecter have a worn plastic sheath, I have wrapped them in insulating tape but this has not helped. -
VW Golf Mark V - What legally can I do ? Home trader car. 11 Nov 2010 (Forum)
The dealer asked one question, "was the light on when you left", and appears to think that because of that it would be the my problem. He has offered to have someone run a computer on it on Friday/ Saturday, but that would be as a favour. The car is in limp home mode now with the engine not heating up enough for the turbo to engage, but I'm not sure if the turbo would turn on as it's an fsi from what I understand it has the ability to disengage so may be off permanently until the warning light is investigated. -
Mazda 6 TS 2.0 Diesel 2007 - catastrophic engine failure 41000 miles 22 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I have found a recall for Mazda 6 diesel engines in the AA but it's for an RF diesel engine and I'm not sure if mine is that type. (Forgive my ineptitude at car knowledge.) My warranty runs out on Thursday and I am not sure how to proceed as I believe that the engine has catastrophically failed due to a manufacturing defect that could potentially have put my and worse still, my daughter's life at risk. -
What's the point of the Hats?! 4 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Family duly takes a run in the car, and like it. Sales manager then asks if I'd like to buy it - 'yes' - but only if it's got a Bosch pump (or, at least, not the horror story pumps) and we wouldn't know until Monday when the importers could be contacted. -
Volvo XC90 (2002 - ) - Sold the Outback! 2 Feb 2010 (Forum)
So he obviously has had good service and with my paltry 9,000 miles pa, I won't be putting too much extra stress on what I assume is a well run in engine. Price - well I could have bought a two year older slightly higher spec car with less miles for more than I paid and I got a decent price for the Outback. I will be sorry to see it go. -
Mazda - Mazda used approved warranty claim advice, please 13 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Took it into my local Mazda garage, and they quickly diagnosed heavy breathing!? In fact, with the engine running, if you remove the oil filler cap it does a (depressingly) good impression of a steam train. It also does the same if the dip stick is removed indicating it is likely to be blow past the pistons as opposed to valve guides. -
