Cit ZX Diesel smoke plume at start up 19 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I have accidentally engulfed people in smoke before who were standing 10 meters away. :( During this start up and smoke, the engine runs a little lumpy, but after about 10 seconds it's perfect, and once it's running/warmed up, it's perfectly fine, no smoke, it just runs nice. People have recommended new glow plugs etc, so I may well have a go at this soon, any other possibilities though for the cause of this smoke? -
Uninsured Drivers = 99% Hit & Runs 9 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Hi All lawful motoirst and other decent eople are fed up with the criminals that drive around without valide insurance. Even if a car has insurance, but subsequently runs out of raod tax/mot, then technically its not insured. Where there is a weill, there is a way. The way is simple. Demand that the next government scraps every vehicle that is stopped/caught on the roads of the uk. -
Corsa 1.2 8v running cool 30 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Hi all My sister-in-law's 1.2 8v Corsa is running cool. The fans finally came on when I revved the engine, so I suspect the thermostat. Having bought a Haynes manual it would appear I have to remove the timing belt and rear cover to remove the thermostat. -
Rough Starting Peugeot 306dt 22 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Initially on releasing the ignition key after a second or 2 of firing up, the engine would stall but it would start and run on the second turn of the key. I now have to keep the key turned for about 4-5 seconds before the engine will pick up and run by itself. Perhaps the colder weather is having an effect. Pressing the accelerator as soon as it fires up helps it to get through the initial rough patch. -
VW 1.9 Tdi occasional misfire 25 Aug 2004 (Forum)
After this the car runs normally, maybe for days, before the next occurrence. It happens under gentle acceleration. Other than this the engine starts and runs perfectly. My thoughts are that it could be: -contaminated fuel -poor fuel flow (gunged fuel filter) -faulty injector pump -faulty engine management -or (less likely) - problem with airflow into engine. -
Toyota auto stalling 2 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Can any of you expert help me with this? My Toyota Camry V6 auto (1992 model) sometimes stalls. It's always when the car has been running for a good while and is thoroughly warmed through. The revs drop away from a steady 800rpm to 300-400rpm and quite often the engine simply stalls. It's worse when the air-con is running, and when reverse is selected. -
Rover 416 that hates wet weather 29 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I have a Rover 416 that hates going out in the rain. When it's been raining hard the car runs fine until it's hit a few puddles. The car will be running fine and then all of us sudden it will miss go back to normal and then miss again before cutting out. Once cut out it can take 15 mins before it will start again, once started it's great and runs well until a few more puddles later. -
Diesel Smoking / Additive 8 May 2003 (Forum)
Car runs perfectly though. Am I worringly unnecessarily? P.S. It was the sender that was faulty on my coolant temp problem. Thanks for all your help. -
SAAB Diesel starting problems 17 Dec 2002 (Forum)
They say that any further checking will involve taking things to bits to assist the diagnosis and obvioulsy this will will run up a bill, and quite rightly. Can any Back Roomers suggest a fruitful area of investigation? The engine obviously has to have fuel under pressure to start and run. Once it does start, it runs OK. -
Polo running very strangely 8 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Did 80-90 for nearly 2 hours quite hapily, then cut out at a junction. Cutting out after a fast or lengthy run is also a problem. The main thing thats worried me is the misfire/power loss. It has popped 2 water hoses recently. A breather pipe going from next to the oil filler to somewhere is broken - could this contribute? -
Vauxhall Carlton intermittent problems 6 Jun 2001 (Forum)
Occasionally can be eradicated by high revving; however, on one occasion the problem occurred after 100 miles of motorway running then persisted for the remaining 75 miles but the car was fine next morning. Alan -
Peugeot 308 Verve 2010 - P1338 - Misfire Cylinder No.2 (Losing the will) 13 Apr 2021 (Forum)
I just don't know where to go next or what to look at as to what can be causing the problem. I have my own OBD monitor and from what I can see the car is running 10° hotter than what my dial actually displays (warn running engine temp usually of 90° shown on dial yet OBD reports 100°). Any suggestions on possible fixes or help identifying the problem will be highly appreciated. -
Honda Civic 1.6 - Fuel consumption - bad or just normal? 14 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Didn't use the car while there and filled it up at the start of the return journey, I'd got just over 38. That seems very low to me - I'd have expected nearly 50 out of the Yaris for a similar run. Confusingly, the trip counter is also massively inaccurate. It typically shows around 42 for my normal usage and 45 for a run such as the London trip so it around 15% high. I'm surprised but don't have much experience of other cars to know if this is usual - the Yaris one was only per journey so I only got much of a check on longer runs but it seemed to tie up quite well. -
Escort Van 1.8 Diesel (non turbo) - Escort Van 1.8Diesel Cold Stat Problem 10 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I have noticed that one of the diesel injectors has a leak, could that cause the fuel to creep back??? It seems that i am running out of "cheap" options. The pump timing has been checked, could it be the pump itself? but it does run ok once started, abeit a bit smokey these days and not very quick (bluey/whitey smoke...related?) -
Golf Mk 5 Buying Decision 10 Jul 2004 (Forum)
It was certainly comfier with much less road noise than my dad's Focus. I have since tried a TDI 105. This was a bit coarse sounding, reminiscent of mine before it was run in. I think I could sell my car privately and buy a new TDI SE from a broker, without it costing me any more to run over 3 years. Less outright pace on the straights, but otherwise more agile and enjoyable. -
EV dual motors - why? 10 Jun 2023 (Forum)
We never had 2 engines in ICE cars! * Or is it for 4WD capability? Do the drivers get option to run 1 motor or it is both must run at same time? Lastly, why one would choose dual motors version as this would drain battery faster * = There are some ICE cars (e.g. RAV4) with a motor at rear axle to provide 4WD capability. -
Electric cars in motorway service areas 11 May 2021 (Forum)
And there is a queue. So you know you are stuck for a while. If you stay you will over run the time allowed in the service area before you are penalised. If you push on to the next service area you may run out of charge on the "Smart Motorway" and risk 30 tonnes saying hello to you if you havn't been spotted. -
Vauxhall Corsa - 2014 Corsa 13 Feb 2021 (Forum)
Over the last few months it has been making a loud, high pitched noise when I am driving above 40ishmph. The car feels like it's running fine, no loss of power etc. I had the oil changed today as well as the break pads and discs but it's still the same. It sounds to me like the engine running normally , just a bit more high pitched. -
