51 plate fiesta no heater 18 Jan 2006 (Forum)
my girlfreind has a new to us 51 plate fiesta, with the old style pushrod engine, the heater made a slight hint of warmth at first, so i suspected the stat was stuck open weve had a new stat fitted and now there no heat at all! even after a long run, the garage suggests its the matrix , would i wrong in thinking a 2001 car with service history shouldnt need a new matrix?? it would need to be totaly blocked with sludge to cause no heat wouldnt it?? -
Am I asking the impossible? 16 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Is there such a thing as a car that has good fuel economy and great performance. By good fuel economy I mean over 40mpg on a run and 30ish around town. By great performance I mean at least 150BHP Other considerations to consider are - it must cost around 6K, have 5 doors and be "family sized" (Mondeo/Passat size) I'm thinking diesel, but which one? -

Ibiza cupra 20v Turbo no oil! 1 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Car had a full history and had a major service end of August. There was no oil light on and engine sounded fine when I heard it run earlier on. Was I right to asume the worst or do you think that there might have been enough oil in for there to be no problems? Thanks for any help. -
Volvo 240se Number Plate Light 9 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Cannot get a 12V signal across bulb-holding contacts; and the number plate lights don't come on even with engine running and all other lights on. What is the next step? -
Escort (R) Fiesta (S) Stereo 1 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Hi guys, I've recent bought a little run around for my wife, a fiesta 1.3. However it came with a Kenwood stereo in it, she's not bothered about having a CD player in here car! :| however i am! :) I have the Stock stereo in mine (Ford Escort Flight (r)) I was wondering how easy it would be to change the two over and how i would about taking out the old Stereo, more spacifically on the Escort, if anyone can offer advice on removing the Kenwood would that would be great! -
BMW 316 - starting problem 6 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Hi all - back again. I recently bought an 'N' reg BMW 316 - 1.6 Saloon. The car runs fine but sometimes has a problem starting. When i turn the key the car just has a whirring noise and doesnt start the engine. I then turn the ey back and try again until it starts - so its happening quite a bit. -
VW Passat cv boot and front drop links 26 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Had a 80K full service done and a number of issues were identifed. The CV boot needs replacing and both front drop links. OK? The car is 6 years old, 80K, (runs great mind!)but when VW told me the parts and labour, I nearly fell off my oerch! £130+ for the CV boot and drop links £175+ (supplied and fitted in both instances) I'm not knowledgable under the bonnet, but there must be an alternative. -
The Fantasy Garage 25 Sep 2005 (Forum)
When I win the lottery tomorrow (I've got to win eventually) the first order of business is to buy a nice big house with a 4 car garage. The question then is what to fill the garage with. My current list is: 1. For day to day running about, a Range Rover. The supercharged one, I think. 2. For fun, a Lotus Elise. Preferably a 111R. 3. For intercontinental cruising, a DB9. 4. A true exotic, in this case a Konigseggg. Because I can. -
Mondeo 24v 1998 idle problem 16 Sep 2005 (Forum)
When coming to a stop in traffic the rpm goes right down to 500 rpm and it feels like it's just about to stall, goes very lumpy then settles at about 600 rpm, which seems a bit low to me but I can't remember what it was beforehand. No other running problems when driving along, It's fine. Car is only used on short journeys which doesn't really help it. Can anyone help? thanks... -
Citroen Picasso HDI X reg - digital dash 15 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Can you assist me in finding a new right hand dash display unit (the one which indicates Satnav and computer information)? The display on my Picasso has poor brightness and when the car has been running for 15 minutes, dims to an unreadable level. My local Citroen dealer quoted £1000 plus to change the dash after previously telling me that the light bulbs need changing. I had already changed the bulbs myself a year ago to no avail. -
Not taking the easy option.... 11 Sep 2005 (Forum)
If the garage had been negligent then his insurance company would have got their money back and he'd have his bonus back. Silly wotsit is now in debt and the garage is suing him for the 8k in legal fees that they have run up defending the case over the last 2 years. The only question I have is why make such a fuss over it?! teabelly -
Focus Sooty Tailpipe 31 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Please would anyone out there, comment whether there is a minor problem with my 2003 Focus 1.6. ? Even after a long run the exhaust tailpipe shows a very black appearence inside, and on certain occasions when pull away the engine can \'pink\' slightly. The performance is reasonable (In line with HJ\'s Car by Car-description) and the car produces 36 mpg. -
is it an air lock? Cavalier 1.7td (1993) 26 Aug 2005 (Forum)
going down the motorway yesterday i noticed the the engine is not getting up to its normal operating temp as it used to(100 degrees before fan kicked in) i thought it might be air in the system but im not sure. also i have found out that the passsenger and drivers footwells are realy hot that also never happened before and neither did the fact that the ignition key get hot after a long run the heater fan isnt on so i cant imagine what could be wrong. any info on this is ,as always, much apprecated -
99T Mondeo 2.5 V6 pinking 19 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I've had a look through some of the previous listings, but there does not appear to be a conclusive answer. Same symptoms as other listings, pinking under load under 3K. I've run a can of PowerBoost through it, which seemed to work, but it re-appeared again a few days later. I've disconnected the battery to clear the ECU memory. I am not going to waste my money taking it to a Ford dealer. -

Dings and things! 30 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Came back from a run to the coast yesterday and therefore had parked my car in several car parks. However I found that someone had left a 'ding' in my nearside rear wheel arch about 2" above the flared bit and just behind the plastic arch protector. -
bora sidelights 30 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Had a strange problem in the Bora last night (2001 PD100 model) The sidelights would not switch off. I was running on dipped beam (it was raining) and when I parked and switched the lights off, the warning bleeper sounded when i opened the door. When I got out of the car I saw that the sidelights were on. Eventually I had to remove the fuse. -
Old age Air-con lifespan 24 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I am fairly certain the air-con in my seven year old Mondeo has never been repaired/regassed at all since new, yet it still seems to working fairly effectively if not 100%. I rarely use it winter except to speed up screen de-misting, so it is not as if I have it running regularly outside of the June-August decent weather period....anyone have an older car than mine with air-con that has not needed any work? (Of course I realise it will not work tomorrow having said the above!) -
Volvo 340 electrics 18 Jun 2005 (Forum)
A while back the heater fan motor packed up, it was running Ok on high speed and just stopped, all I get is a click from a relay somewhere under the dash when it's switched to the high position. Yesterday the engine overheated in traffic as the cooling fan failed to work.
