ANY - How much on list price for an extra real 5mpg? 1 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Would you like your next car to be greener, more fuel efficient and less costly to run, if so how much extra would you be prepared to pay for an optional extra that promised to offer you a 'real world' increase of say 4.5 to 5 mpg (an increase of approx 1 mile per litre) in your week to week fuel economy? -
critical navigation 30 Sep 2014 (Forum)
This thing was in landscape orientation, and was placed pretty-much centrally, below the rear-view mirror, and was not in 'night mode'. Let me run that past you again: They'd got a great big rectangle of plastic stuck right in the middle of the windscreen of a Vauxhall Corsa (ie not, say, a lorry, so a significant portion of the windscreen was totally obscured). -

Citroen C3 1.4 Auto 2002. KFV Engine - BSI Dead / ECU Replace 7 Sep 2014 (Forum)
I believe the reason for this is the BSI has either lost its way or has got damaged somehow, as I have no got no power to the dash at all, no lights, and irratic wipers. I have Lexia, plugged it in but it says permanent fault to everything that is run from the BSI. E.g. Wipers, light, radio post, speedo etc. i'm looking at replacing the bsi unit along with an ecu and transponder set, but my ECU is sagem. I can't find anywhere another Sagem ECU with the bsi and transponder set. -
Dodge nitro 2.7crd - Still not starting after a visit to the specialist 5 Sep 2014 (Forum)
They feel the next step is removing the gearbox to check the gap between the crank shaft sensor - pick up ring and check everything is in line, this is because my own personal mechanic had initially taken the box off and installed new pick up ring, clutch, flywheel bolts etc, And although I bought it as a non runner it must have been running up until the flywheel bolts decided to snap!? It's going to cost more £££ to remove the box and is not gaurenteed to solve it! Is there any other things I should consider first, any common parts that fail and not show up on the diagnostics? -
Honda CR-V 2.2 Diesel 2007 EX - Quoted a helluva lotta money to replace alternator 4 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I think they identified the correct problem as a couple of days ago, the car battery did seem to run out, but i eventually started and is working ok, but the sound is most distressing. Honda say its on its way out and can go any day. They will need to order the part and call us in for a day and get it fixed. -
Mercedes CLK 03 - Fuel contamination 19 Jun 2014 (Forum)
We decided to go to Mercedes this time. They've recommended changing the fuel filter and if that doesn't work they can run a full diagnostics test for £150. If there's something wrong we could be looking at four figures. We've written to BP in France but chances of being successful are slim. Has anyone else had a similar experience and if so what was the outcome? -
Why do people..... 20 May 2014 (Forum)
There are peope in the Back Room who drive very nice cars, but one assumes that they can afford to buy/lease and run them. I can afford to drive cars which cost a lot more than my S-Max, but it suits my purpose and at the moment, I can find better things to do with my money. But I simply despair when I read, yet again, the same phrases: - "I only have £1,000 to spend and I want to buy a two year old (sic) BMW". -

Small economical hatchback 26 Mar 2014 (Forum)
The Polo has terrible MPG for her - I think I worked it out at something like 38 MPG once she got off a tank. That's not brilliant for a slow 1.4. I can get that from my Mazda on a run... Any advice? :) -
1996 Peugeot 106 XND - Leaking Fuel Pump 17 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Additional info- the fuel pump on the car is a Lucas, mileage is 117,000 , have been running it mainly on bio diesel (2 stage refined) for just under 3 years, and add Redex fuel system additive. Mechanically, the rest of the car is spot on. Many thanks Read more: http://www.diynot.com/forums/automotive-repairs/peugeot-106-diesel-15-fuel-pump-leak-1996.393486/#3029037#ixzz2tJ8mTatJ -
Petrol or Diesel for long term ownership 14 Feb 2014 (Forum)
The current vehicle is a Picasso petrol which we've had for about 10y, and I would like to replace with something that will do the same job of being cheap to run and lasting a decade while shifting a family of five. As the three smallest are going to be all big by the end of that next decade, I need it to be quite a large vehicle. I have in mind the C4 Grand Picasso, S-Max, Galaxy (ex Addison Lee perhaps), Zafira, or maybe an estate like a Mondeo or Passat. -
Vauxhall Zafira 2.0 DTi 05 plate - Programming of new ECU codes - neccessary? 30 Jan 2014 (Forum)
I have had problems with heavy steering and with the car intermittently losing power on accelerating and the engine management light (spanner symbol) flashing and the traction control warning light coming on then going off again. My local garage have run the diagnostics and liaised with Vauxhall, and have said it needs a new steering rack and a new fuel pump. Our local garage (who we know and trust) have said the cost of the parts would be around £500 and labour £250, however because it would need re-programming of the new control module (?) -
crd ltd 2003 - Jeep Grand Cherokee 6 Jan 2014 (Forum)
If I turn the engine constantly, this morning I cranked the engine for 150 seconds but it didn't start and I didn't want to run the battery flat so I sprayed a very small amount of easy start into the air intake and it fired up immediately. The weird thing is once the engine has fired up, I can turn the engine off and it will them restart after any length of time immediately during that same day. -
Audi A1 - Buying Audi A1 from an AUDI dealer 29 Dec 2013 (Forum)
I was looking at an AA inspection but noticed `Elite` mentioned too. There are also garages nearby that could take a look I suppose ? Maybe run it through an MOT ? -
Nissan Primera P12 - Nissan Primera P12 1.8 (2003) cold start dilemma 18 Dec 2013 (Forum)
The battery is fine and the engine actually turns over, but it just won't start and usually it takes anything up to 10 minutes to get it going. Once it actually starts, it runs like a dream and I can stop it and start it up again instantly for the rest of the day. However, if I leave it for a few hours or if the engine gets cold again, I am back to square one I've had it diagnosed, but no faults came up. -
Peugeot 406 1.9TD 1996 Brake Servo 6 Dec 2013 (Forum)
Anyhow- to today's challenge, I want to change the brake servo as the brake pedal sinks slowly to the floor with the engine running and I have heard in a few places this is a likely cause (I've redone all of the brakes and checked most other things). I'll do a few more checks this weekend (it's off the road 'til I'm sure it is OK) but I'd love to hear from someone that has changed a brake servo on a 406 diesel. -
Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 03 1.9 noise at 1500rpm 3 Dec 2013 (Forum)
The old one could not be turned by hand after being removed. Result happiness ??- not quite. Just been on a 400 mile motorway run in it and it performed well, as usual but at exactly 1500 rpm there is now a booming noise from the engine bay.Not alarmingly loud but quite noticeable and just at 1500 rpm - not 1400 or 1600. Change down or increase revs and it disappears totally. -
Ford Focus Saloon 1.8 TDCI 2003. - diesel pump and injector nightmare! 27 Nov 2013 (Forum)
I ended up chasing the mechanis for nearly 3 months, by which time when he did fit them the car still would not run. At this point i lost it with the mechanic and took the car back from him. I removed the injectors myself and took them to a speacilist to be tested and found that 2 of them were not working, (something i should have done first) And now the salvage yaard will not do a refund. -
Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Can i reject my new Evoque 21 Nov 2013 (Forum)
I have had my brand new Evoque just under a month, and while washing my car over the Christmas break I noticed that the two doors on one side of the car have been repaire/re-sprayed because there is paint runs at the bottom of both doors, paint on the rear door rubber and flaky/rough paint where the sprayed panels meet the plastic trims on both doors. My dealer claims it has not been repaired prior to my collecting it.
