  • Ford Mondeo mk3 (05) estate. - tyre noise / tracking. 22 Oct 2016 (Forum)
However I had not noticed anything wrong, no vibration, no pulling, no excess wear etc., but since then the car has run noisier.  And the lad says noisier still with the new wheel (which does exhibit a slight nearside pull. It's almost as though the tyres are 'singing' as soon as you're past walking pace and just get louder with speed.
  • VW Tiguan - VW software upgrade 29 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Back to my main dealer, VW Lancaster (Ayesbury), who recommended I took the car out on a test run with a technician. He confirmed the fault and the Service Adviser booked my car in and provided me with courtesy car free of charge. Contacted by the dealer the next day and told 'the computer is showing no faults' but they would contact VW HQ in Milton Keynes for advice.
  • Focus 1.8 TDCI 53 Plate - Noisy ticking sound and sluggish 27 Sep 2016 (Forum)
I am getting rid of the car now anyway as I'm upto 200k miles with a cam belt change imminent and now possible injector issues, just aint worth it. But would like to move the car on but as running rather than non-runner. Feedback ogf any sort greatly appreciated
  • Any - Bad experiences when buying/selling a car.. 27 Aug 2016 (Forum)
It was already dark and the street lighting was bad, so they drove to the local petrol filling station so that that the buyer could examine the car under the garage lights. My brother left the engine running and lifted the bonnet. To his his horror the would-be buyer leaned over the engine, stuck his hand right into the gubbins and almost immediately had the top of his finger sliced off by the cooling fan.
  • Peugeot 3008 - Asda unleaded petrol better than Tesco 95 ron? 18 Aug 2016 (Forum)
Well - I swear, over the next couple of weeks, I though the guage had stopped working and was stuck on full! We did a few more long-runs than normal, but even accounting for that, I was amazed at how long the full tank was lasting and the car returned approx. 40mpg. We are back on Tesco 95 ron now, and guess what - the mpg is back down to 35mpg ish, and it does feel a bit flat!
  • 2013 VW Tiguan Fourmotion - 20k miles - Loud knocking after gearbox re-fit 21 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Had the gearbox taken out of our 4x4 Tiguan last week, dismantled, refurrbed, and put back together – under warranty – due to a hole in the casing, spewing oil all over the road and DMF! Last few days it’s driven perfectly again, until this morning. I can suddenly feel the engine running through the clutch pedal, the clutch has become quite spongy and stiff, gears a bit notchy, and worst of all there’s a horrendous ‘knock’ under the bonnet when the car goes over a bump at fairly slow speeds.
  • Vehicle ideas - currently have Berlingo Multispace 28 Jun 2016 (Forum)
I have looked into the Subaru Forester but the luggage capacity isn't enough. An older Land Cruiser would be great but I have a feeling the running costs could mount up.  Also good ones must be getting hard to find.  Pick-ups with top are a good idea in theory but I get sick of clambering around in the back of my mate's one for tools and materials I am completely averse to tech for tech's sake, so while A.C. and remote locking would be nice, and basic stuff like remote adjust headlight level, anything else I can happily do without.
  • FIAT Punto - Buying a 12 year old car 27 Jun 2016 (Forum)
The car appears to be a one-owner car with only 10,500 miles.  MoT till November.  Buying it for £500.  Actually heard the car run last night and had a proper look (it is a bona vacantia case in which my firm acts for the Duchy of Lancaster) so got a mate to drive it to my house on his trade plates before he took it to his garage.
  • Vauxhall Zafira A 1.8 16v Auto 2001 - P0170 Fault 26 Jun 2016 (Forum)
What confuses me is why the engine management light is not on if there is an error code? I am hoping that once the exhaust and filter are changed and it has had a good run on the motorway with some premium unleaded it may solve the problem. I have noted that others on here have had similar problems and cleaned the throttle body to solve it, is that an easy enough job?
  • Citroen C2 GT 1.6 2004 - Mysterious noise that is draining my battery 13 Jun 2016 (Forum)
It's as if the car is trying to constantly kill power to something, but there is nothing running, so it just keeps going. I've had the electrics checked out by a Citroen dealer - alternator, battery quality and other electrical checks all passed.
  • Ford Fiesta 2004 - Help with emissions 9 Jun 2016 (Forum)
I will admit my pre cat lambda sensor was broken for a good few month leading up to the test and I only replaced it 5 minutes before the test, could this be the cause and it needs "running in"? Could burning oil cause this? Could I possible fix this by removing my air filter for the retest so there is no restrictions, reducing possible leakage?
  • Nissan Almera Tino - Old Car, New Car 15 May 2016 (Forum)
The Toyota Avensis looks appealing - but so does the Mazda 6 estate. The next car needs to get me up to my late 50s - and cope with university runs for my son (currently aged 12).   All sounds v long term - but I plan to keep the Tino until I have a nice wad of cash - probably 2.5 years and I'd like a 3 year old replacement.   I'd like the replacement vehicle to be a good vehicle for 3- 20 years of age.
  • Renault Kangoo Van 1.9D - Lucas Epic injection pump 30 Apr 2016 (Forum)
My Kangoo 1.9D has started to produce black smoke over the last few weeks. Starts perfect whatever the weather and runs perefct up to half throttle then starts to smoke increasing as more throttle applied, worse under load up long hills. I ran thru a series of checks such as new air filter, fuel filter, cat clear. Egr was replaced by previous owner 6 months ago and is checked and working fine.
  • Ford Focus - Wondering about new car 23 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I keep wondering if I should buy a new car, first new one since a terrible Renault 9 on no-deposit finance years ago, a car that put me off buying new or Renault ever since. I run a 61 reg 1.6 Focus, which is very good, though it hates speed humps, and is a lovely car to drive. A new one would only be self-indulgence, I know. In a local Ford dealer they have the new 1.0 EcoBoost Focus, but they seem pricey, compared with a trade-in offer.
  • VW Golf GT 2.0 TDI (2004) - Real world MPG v trip computer (is mine faulty?) 22 Apr 2016 (Forum)
My cars average real life MPG (Honest John) is supposed to be 49. My reading fluctuates between 58.9 and 58.7. I have run the car only on Shell V Power diesel since owning it and have done way over 2k miles with this fuel. The car has been properly serviced and maintained by the book and has 60k miles on it.
  • Any - Independent garages 13 Apr 2016 (Forum)
We run two Renault Clios, which we like but none of our independent garages seem able to do a full diagnostic and reset and our nearest Renault specialist is in another town, 15 miles away. Renault have protected their franchises with an exclusive protocol, built in to each car's on board computer system, requiring their workshops to have access to dedicated equipment which they have to hand back if they no longer continue dealing with Renault.
  • Jaguar X-Type 2.0d 2004 - Alloy Wheels Refurb 9 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I have a 'spare' set of 16" alloy wheels (the originals) for my car. I'm currently running it on 17" Jag wheels I bought from a friend for £100, incl. P Zeros (225/45/17).  When the tyres need changing (I reckon about 6 months) I'd like to go back to 205/55/16 for economy and ride comfort.
  • hyundai i40 - supermarket fuel VS branded long term test review 17 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I filled up with supermarket fuel, let it go to half a tank, filled up again and re-set my ecu. I then did my normal run on the motorway where I average 67.5 MPG. With supermarket this dropped to 61.2MPG. Around town my normal was 55 MPG,  again with supermarket fuel this dropped to as little as 41MPG. I also noticed my engine sounded noticeably louder, my misses also noticed this.after the test I filled up with BP, let it go to half a tank, filled up again, re-set ecu, fuel results went back to normal and nd engine smoother and quieter.
  • LDV Convoy high roof minibus - Water Leak 5 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I have a suspicion that it is pooling like a reservior somewhere, and when it reaches a certain level like a cistern, over it goes and wet floor. Run out of ideas and resorces.  Maybe somebody knows where it could be coming from?
  • Vauxhall Vectra C 1.9 cdti 120 bhp - Vectra 1.9 cdti 2004 120 bhp hard to start please 1 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Help!! My Vectra was running fine until Saturday. I parked it up and when I came back 4 hours later it would not start. The engine was turning over and tried to fire up, seemed very lumpy and when I pressed the accelorater it died.
