  • Renault Clio 2017 - Best car ever, Why change 20 Dec 2020 (Forum)
I was suprised how many manufacturers have now stopped producing diesel cars including renault and i have worked it out that its going to cost me a lot more money to run  if i was to change cars, even if i bought another pre reg car,  Ok, My last free full service is coming up and renault have offered me a 3 year service contract for £450 which i dont think i will be taking and i will use a local garage thats cheaper.
  • Audi Q2 - a year and a bit 22 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Semi-retirement is busier than working: I've been meaning to do a running report on the Q2 ever since it was a year old towards the end of April.  Anyway a year and a bit now, 18,500 miles, and the first service was done last week. Nothing has gone wrong or fallen off, as you might expect (but don't always get) with a new car.
  • Small cars were do I begin. 1 Oct 2018 (Forum)
I don't have any kids or pets just me and my boyfriend of 12yrs, and we won't be having any kids as due to medical reasons I can't have kids. So it's just me and my boyfriend. I am thinking of something small and easy to run as well as cheap to run but there's two snags why I'm struggling and am hoping I can get help on here as my boyfriend is useless as he's driven the same car for the past 10yrs he drives a lexus RX (he has a better salary than me , he's a doctor, my salary is peanuts compared to his you don't earn much as a receptionist) so as much as I Love his car I can afford that and he doesn't know much about cars apart from knowing a fair bit about Lexus's.
  • Cadillac innovations 19 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Been reading the July issue of Classic American magazine and there is a Cadillac theme running through it. One article details some of the features/inventions/innovations which were debuted on Cadillacs throughout the company. Some remarkable stuff (for the time), including things which decades later, are only just starting to become common on run of the mill cars.
  • Nissan Micra - BIG problem with my Nissan Micra losing power 22 Feb 2017 (Forum)
It will drive fine up to about 40mph but anything over say 4th gear and the car judders and just feels like the power is going to fail, it doesn't totally fail though, it will continue at about 40-50mph maximum (juddering), if I touch the accelerator slightly it seems to maintain its current speed and there seems to be power there ok until I press it down harder there is nothing there at all. It will run forever idle, in fact it sounds like it is running lovely at a stand still. I'm really worried because I need to drive approx 10 miles down the motorway two evenings a week but in the last few weeks I have had some really nail biting journeys as my Micra seems to lose all power when I get over approx 40 to 50mph, obviously this means I need to pull over on a really busy motorway in the dark, one particular trip I had to stop 5 times and I was shaking by the time I reached my destination.
  • Subaru Forester XT - Why do Subaru get such poor reviews? 4 Jan 2015 (Forum)
I have been running this for a month now and have to say it is a pretty convincing package. I have been driving for nearly 50 years and have owned a large number of cars of various types and think I recognise a good car when I drive one.
  • HELP!!!! VW cc GT, C-Class, 3 Series, A4/5??? 13 Apr 2013 (Forum)
I do about 20k a year, two 4 hour (250 mile) drives a week so need a reliable, comfy car which is hopefully economical and cheap(ish) to run. I'm in a Golf petrol 1.6ltr which I've got to return at the end of the month, which is only getting 25-35 MPG @90 and some of the extra urban figures for below are 60-70 MPG (appreciate this figure isnt at 90).
  • Ford Fiesta 2003 1.4 tdci zetec - Legal rights on dissatisfied purchase 1 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I was initially happy with the car but after driving it daily for a few weeks I noticed that it didn't seem to be running right - very hesitant and felt like it was misfiring. I contacted the garage who asked me to bring the car back to them.  The mechanic took a look at the car and took it for a test drive, concluding that there did seem to be a problem and I arranged with the garage to have the car back for a day or two to see if they could diagnose the fault.

  • Mazda 6 2007 TS 2.0 Diesel - 41000 miles and catastrophic engine failure 4 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I have found a recall for Mazda 6 diesel engines in the AA but it's for an RF diesel engine and I'm not sure if mine is that type. (Forgive my ineptitude at car knowledge.) My warranty runs out on Thursday and I am not sure how to proceed as I believe that the engine has catastrophically failed due to a manufacturing defect that could potentially have put my and worse still, my daughter's life at risk.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 01 2.0 HDi Fault code P0230 Limp Mode 16 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Is it a seal in the high pressure pump stop solenoid ? The engine seems to run OK with the MIL light on. Or is it the ECU ? Peugeot you can do better than this !!! Judging by similar postings, I am not alone with this P0230 code and the headache it causes. Are there any further simple tests that I can do before I get fleeced by the garage for the high pressure side repairs ?
  • Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 02 1.9 130 BHP - White(ish) smoke. 3 Jul 2009 (Forum)
After speaking with various people and the garage they put it down to one of three things: 1. Its running too rich on a cold startup and pumping out unburnt diesel as smoke. 2. Oil is leaking across the steam vavles and building up whilst the car is stationary. 3. Coolant is leaking into the exhust whilst its under pressure and stationary.
  • Vauxhall Tigra (1994 - 2000) - Advice on what to do now. 30 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I am in a dilemma with a company that i took my car in for repairs and they have tried to give the car back to me damaged. My car was running as normal with some clutch issues, I took my car to a well known clutch repair chain for a clutch repair or replacement, booked it in all hunky dorie on a saturday morning. Received a call from the company saying my flywheel is a bit damaged and instead of replacing it they could grind it down for quarter of the price. i say yes go ahead.
  • '98 Fiesta Zetec 1.25Si - Over Revs 7 Aug 2007 (Forum)
TO try fix the problem i have already disconnected the battery for 30 minutes and then plugged back in, left running idle for 10 minutes. revving for 2 minutes at 1,200 RPM then driving for 15 miles. This did seem to have some effect and at the moment it only seems to hang the revs for a few seconds or build them before then returning to fall back to neutral revs.
  • Mileages and misconceptions? 25 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I'm assuming: · Corrosion and other age related problems will not be accelerated by high mileage use · Electrical systems have a lifetime measured in years and not miles · It is possible to replace mechanical systems, up to and including entire engine and transmission systems, in order to keep the car running properly If the above are true, I think there is some widespread wooly thinking on the economics behind changing a high mileage newish car. For example, my car is a common rail diesel, and therefore many people have advised me against trying to run it to very high mileages.
  • Pug 206 XSi Various Probs 5 May 2005 (Forum)
The drivers side headlight is held in place by two rather flimsy pieces of plastic which are screwed to the metal panel which runs along the front of the car above the headlights. The "brackets" are an integral part of the headlamp unit and both have fractured causing the headlamp to drop forward and downward by about 5mm. There is now a lateral movement in the headlamp unit of around 10mm, which could cause the headlight flickering effect I have often seen in oncoming traffic.
  • Audi Dealer woes, advice would be nice 4 May 2004 (Forum)
In any case, this happened during the week and I thought I would take the car into {deleted} over the weekend to look at the problem. Unfortunately, the battery had run flat come the weekend, so I got roadside assistance to charge me up. They were pretty good, the mechanic looked at the car but could not tell anything as the cars memmory was cleared when the battery went flat.
  • IAM Training. 18 Feb 2003 (Forum)
It seems I'm too ugly for my IAM test. ;-) So I'm a little miffed. I suspect they give folks bad marks deliberately in early runs to be able to show they've improved people but someone with less experience and thinner skin than me could be seriously put off. Ironically my mirror work was comended despite the fact I know it's a failing of mine.
  • Carina II -- Tell me the worst, doctor 14 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Today my wife said "The car's making funny rattling noises and it smells of burning". I took it out for a run to see for myself and everything seemed fine until suddenly the engine temperature, which has never risen above normal in six years, went off the scale. I stopped the car to let it cool down with the engine off (it's got an electric fan).
  • Drunken Pedestrians 2 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I had to sit in the car at the side of the road for a few minutes to collect myself - it'd be me who was banged up in Mr Plod's cell if I'd run him over and how would that have been my fault? My point is, that in addition to everything that has been said on here recently, you CANNOT leave ALL the responsibility of road safety in the hands of car users.
