  • Jump starting 4 Aug 2004 (Forum)
In yesterday's Telegraph, HJ wrote the following in response to a question about jump starting: 'Connect the starter car's positive battery terminal to that of the stricken vehicle, then attach the former's negative terminal to a metal earthing point on the latter. Linking both cables battery to battery might cause ECU damage.' Does this rule apply to all modern cars?

  • Kia e-Niro 4+ 21 reg - 12v auxiliary battery not charging 19 Oct 2024 (Forum)
If the 12 v battery goes flat, then that's catastrophic. 1. What is the point of this battery considering there's a much larger battery already in the car 2. How do I know if it's going flat (apart from looking on the Kia app) 3.

  • Vauxhall Corsa - How to check my battery 28 May 2011 (Forum)

  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 04 1.8 Battery confusion 18 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I need to replace my near dead battery on my diesel focus. Although I'm a little confused... The current battery is a Motorcraft superstart rated at 680A 70AH, which is lead acid. Now I've been reading around, some people are saying stick with lead acid, others say go with calcium or silver.
  • Precautions when battery changing. 24 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Don't need to worry about my old MB, it doesn't seem to bother at all when the battery is disconnected...which with it's previous ECU/wiring loom problems was quite a few times..;) But i hear that some cars do have problems if battery power is lost, and more problems if you mess up connecting a new battery, yes even if connected correctly.
  • Pug 106 not charging up the battery 1 Nov 2006 (Forum)
It decided to not start the other day while I was away from home but with the help of a mate we managed to push start it. It looks like car isn't charging up the battery. I put the battery in another car and the battery got charged up no problem and started the car as normal and then I drove the car for good half an hour or so hoping that the battery would get fully charged but instead it was totally flat after me leaving the lights on for a bit (while i was driving the car).
  • Battery life and breakdown cover 28 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I attended as did a local garage arranged by her insurer eSure under her breakdown cover, the guy was there in 30 mins, he tested the battery and the alternator and advised that a new battery was required, I went and bought a Halfords Calcium four year g'tee jobby, he waited and fitted it on my return, all sorted within an hour. Ok we are £50 worse off (could have had a non Calcium battery for £41) though the Clio was on its original battery and it is eight years old this year so we cant complain.
  • Civic battery drain. 20 Mar 2006 (Forum)
He's got a mid-90s Honda Civic 1.5 16v engine I think. If he leaves the car overnight it seems the battery hasn't got enough grunt to start the engine. But if he disconnects the battery overnight it starts fine. So I decided to measure the current drain to see if it was exessive, but it was only around 30mA, which shouldn't really drain a newish battery overnight.
  • Fast fit experience 8 Nov 2002 (Forum)
"I think I need a new battery - could you do a quick check for me ?" "Certainly sir, just drive it in the middle bay and we'll get that checked for you" Enter the technician : battery check carried out. "Your battery is finished - you really need a new one" (NEVER !)
  • Battery replacement - the sequel ... 3 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Some feedback on the extremely complex battery changing manoeuvre. The thought of trying to support the car's electronics using an old battery and some crocodile clips made me nervous so I made my own "memory saver" out of a redundant mains mobile phone charger (11.75 smooth volts, kind to electronics) and cigar-lighter plug with a built-in 2A fuse.
