• Volvo V70 - CO Emissions MOT Fail - Help Please 8 Oct 2010 (Forum)
  Hi there, any help very much appreciated. Volvo V70 2.4 (140bhp) 2000 with 165k failed the MOT today on the fast idel CO emisions test. Recorded 0.79% first time and 0.63% second time. Natural Idle passed at 0.32%. HC was 90ppm and 24ppm first and second time respectively and lambada was a pass at 0.97.

  Back in July, on the motorway, the engine went completely dead. A inspection at the Volvo garage revealed that the idler pulley had seized causing the V belt to break. The report continues " When this happens the V belt disintegrates wrapping itself around the crankshaft pulley and also enters the cam belt casing.

  After last years MOT fiasco http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?v=e&t=56677&m=645656, I was resigned to very probably scrapping the Volvo when tax, insurance, and test ran out simultaneously at the end of this month. However it seems that the tester has mellowed this past 12 months as he has failed it only on a lower ball joint and rear silencer, both fair cops.

  Whilst ambling along there were two Police officers stroling in the same direction as I was heading back to my car, they took a great deal of interest in a Volvo S40 and the the Lassie proceeded to write a ticket. I stopped to chat to her colleque only to discover the cars road tax ran out in March 07 so not just a little out of date. So a £60 find was stuch ti the windscreen That will spoil the owners day, mind you he has had 8 months without paying any road tax and apparently unless the officer contacts the driver/RK and gives them the appropriate form then they do not get charged the back Tax.

  iv got a volvo s40, 'P 1996, 1.8 and was driving today when i realised that at a set of traffic lights, the car felt as if it was misfiring a bit...the revs felt as if they were falling and then going back to normal.

  iv got an volvo S40 P reg 1996, 1.8 engine. when i push the clutch pedal down and release it, it sometimes makes a squeeling like sound as if the clutch cable is stressing out a little bit and the clutch feels a little bit tighter when i do so.

  My father has a 3 year old Volvo V70 SE estate and recently suffered a blow out when he hit a brick in the road. It took a chunk out of his tyre and broke the alloy wheel. He got home on the space saver and then went to his Volvo dealer to have the wheel and tyre replaced.

  Dear all, after discovering the hard way the space limitations inside my Vectra hatchback I have decided I need to get an estate car. I will have about £2k to spend (I know!) and I rather like the look of the Volvo V40 - I've seen a fair few 97 and 98 models around at that price mark. Most of them have between 90k and 150k on the clock but I'm not too worried about that as I know most of these should be good for 200k of looked after.

We have heard from a very reputable garage (that we personally use) of a car as follows: Volvo 440 1993L 5 door 1.6i with FSH and 55Kmiles previously owned by elderly couple and serviced regularly at said garage. Comes serviced, with 1 yr MOT, 1 yr RAC membership, and 1year full warranty. Price £1995 Does this sound like a good car to buy and is the price reasonable?
