SAAB 9-3 Tdi 1999 8 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Any major repairs are likely to be close to the value of the car and I am wondering if this something that it is safe to ignore? It is not related to any other warning lights, (oil, elec, coolant temp etc) and seems to mean nothing except that it is mostly off and very occasionally on. -
'98 primera-couple of niggles 19 Sep 2005 (Forum)
After a recent service I was told that 'both front cv cracking'.Is this expensive to sort out. I am looking at changing the coolant myself for the first time-I am not particularly mechanically minded but thought I should give it a go.Is it simple? My boot is getting difficult to open.I should just be able to push where the key goes in ( if unlocked obviously ), but recently it has just pushed in and not opened. -
PUG 306 Nearly Stalling 20 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Recently I have had the lambda sensor replaced as it was knackered and causing it to stall regularly. Before replacing the lambda sensor, it has also had a new stepper motor and engine coolant sensor. Any ideas or advice very welcome. -
Mitsubishi Colt 1.6 servicing (Y Reg) 11 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Does anybody know where I can get basic servicing information, like, where the coolant drain points are, where does the pollen filter live? I do not need to rebuild the engine but a Haynes type manual would be useful. The Handbook and Service book only tell you how to change light bulbs. -
\"Airbag & tensioning\" light. Vectra V6 11 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Me again... On top of my coolant system problems, just the other day my \"Airbag & seatbelt tensioning\" red warning light came on and won\'t go off now. After ignition, it goes out for half a second or so then comes back on... -
Need help diagnosing problem. Fiesta. 3 May 2004 (Forum)
Well its making thumping noises from the engine especially when i give it a bit of throttle, this is when idling. Also the coolant is disappearing fast and fairly thick white smoke from the exhuast. I reackon a blown head gasket but there doesnt seem to be to much liquid around the seal. Another option could be overheating. -

Stalling Golf Mk 3 10 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Starts OK from cold but then splutters and stalls. It'll restart OK and runs fine when warm. Had the coolant temperature sender unit replaced but still not fixed. My mechanic cannot fix it and suggest VAG dealers who have the diagnostic machines. Somebody on a previous Polo problem message suggests the manifold heater? -
Ford Fiesta Mk5 2005 - Fiesta Mk5 cooling system 11 Jul 2018 (Forum)
It performed fine but at one viewpoint stop I noticed a sizzling noise coming from the bonnet and on investigation the coolant was actually simmering and a bit of pressure released from the cap - though the coolant level hadn't noticeably dropped. I let it cool and continued, and on other steep climbs it happened again. -

Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 05 2.0 TDCi Overcooling 18 Feb 2010 (Forum)
The coolant temperature used to reach the middle of the normal range in about 4 miles and stay there, except when coasting downhill for a significant period. Recently, I have found it can only reach and maintain the normal temperature if speeds of 55-60mph are maintained and drops away rapidly as I slow down. -
Peugeot 405 Diesel (1988 - 1996) - 93 1.9 head gasket 1 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I've done so much to it that I want to hang on to it if I can. I think the head gasket is going as it loses coolant with no obvious leaks and also pressurises the cooling system - fluid sometimes pours out under pressure AFTER the engine has cooled when I remove the radiator cap. The oil and coolant are both clean and I have just done a 330 mile round trip running like a bird. -
Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 1993 1.4i overheating - driving me nuts! 23 Jan 2008 (Forum)
. * After few mins therostat must have opened * Expansion tank suddenly overflowed with hot water and dribbled out all over engine * Turned ignition off * Topped up with water * Put cap back on and idled it again for a few minutes * Temperature went up nearly to the red again * Let it cool down for a bit then idled again with fan disconnected until approaching red again * Radiator hot at top and bottom, and hoses hot. Seems like the coolant IS circulating, guess thats why coolant overflowed suddenly with cap open. So I'm stumped, as far as I can see the fan, thermostat, pump and airlock situation is ok, but it definitely overheats, it bubbles and sounds like it's boiling if allowed to get right up to the red. -
Mondeo head gasket 25 Apr 2007 (Forum)
The car is 10 years old with 115000 on the clock. 2.0 Ghia Auto zetec engine... My problem now? The garage reported that they carried out a test on the coolant reservoir, which indicated "exhaust gases" in the coolant. I remember seeing other people mention this test elsewhere on this forum. This indicates a problem with the head gasket? The car is now still running hot, the pressure cap on the reservoir is constantly releasing steam (when up to temp) and I don't know what to do for the best. -
Mystery smoke - 1992 rover 827 v6 8 Apr 2006 (Forum)
s the head gasket or a crack in the head and it?s time to rip the engine to pieces. However, there is no oil in the coolant, the coolant level has stayed stable, the oil looks like it could do with a good change but there is no mayonnaise or froth. The engine runs fine (smooth, linear power) and isn?t down on power. The engine doesn? -

How does this work? Omega 19 Feb 2003 (Forum)
OK so breifly, when compared to my first version :o) 2.0 16V Omega what function does the engine coolant serve to the throttle housing, I find it hard to believe it could output any noticable heat to the housing, hence to the temperature of the air coming into the engine, given that it only briefly mates with the throttle housing.
