Volvo D5 pop-up 14 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Please can that Volvo ad be changed? It\'s right in the way and when you click \'close\' it doesn\'t go away, it just compacts a bit. SORRY TO INTRUDE ON YOUR POSTING, GRUMPY, BUT IT\'S THE BEST WAY TO GET THE MESSAGE OVER QUICKLY AND STOP PEOPLE STARTING OTHER UNNECESSARY THREADS. -
High mileage corsa 13 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I\'m thinking of buying a B class corsa (1997 P) it\'s one of the 16 valve models is 7 years old with one owner so I\'m assuming e\'s done a fair bit of motorway driving with it. The mileage is at 110k. Any thought onto how much life the vehicle has left? -
Diesel in 205 petrol engine. Won\'t start 3 Dec 2003 (Forum)
It was a bit coughy for a while then seemed ok. Parked the car up at work and now it won\'t start - it\'ll turn over grand but that\'s it. What the fix now? It\'s a 1990 205. injectors/spark plugs/new car? -
MX-5 Indicator 23 Jun 2003 (Forum)
SHMBO MX-5 o/s indicators have stopped working, I've had the relay out and this has two relays, presumably one for the left/right indication and one for the hazard warning lights. The car has 3 indicators each side front/rear and side repeater, none of the o/s indicators work, yet the relay clicks albeit faster - this sounds like an earthing problem or am I missing something? -
sticking with fully synthetic oil. 23 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Main dealer has always used a fully synthetic oil (Esso Ultron). New dealer offers a choice of Mobil Super S (Semi) or Mobil 1 (fully) IIUI Mobil Super S (semi) is the MB recommended oil, but Mobil 1 is also approved for use. As the car has always used fully synthetic - am I right it thinking that the best choice would be to go with mobil 1? -
Peugeot rear dampers 11 Jun 2001 (Forum)
After a few months I decided the rear-end skittishness was more than just scuttle-shake, and the local garage found very little pressure remained in the n/s damper, and the o/s one was not a lot better. I have never (knowingly) had any trouble with Peugeot dampers, so is this a cabrio problem, or did the car just have faulty ones from new? -
Protection from rear impacts 13 Sep 2007 (Forum)
As Clarkson observes, ?Speed never killed anybody. It?s the abrupt stop that does for you.? In other words, it?s all very well having a rigid passenger cell, but surely there?s little substitute for plain old distance (and therefore time) between point of contact and point of coming to rest? -
ford focus - Particles, Catalitic converters, DPF's, Diesel??? 9 Jul 2011 (Forum)
In an article I read some time ago about particles, it said that particles are not all one size pm10's. They come in all sizes from PM1's upwards. It seems that the Eu has picked on PM10's as they are the most common size produced by diesels and what triggered that I imagine was someone seeing an old diesel engine under load pumping out clouds of black smoke. -
Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 2003 PD130 owner's report 24 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I?ve had my Passat B5.5 PD130 sport (6-speed manual) for 5 years and 62,000 miles, and it?s making way for a new Mondeo. For what it?s worth, here?s my impressions and experience of ownership. First, I didn?t really run it in, I just drove it. Even keeping below 3K rpm, you?re still moving quite nicely. -
Pre-reg Honda Civic 9 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Am toying with the idea of replacing one of the family Puntos with a pre-reg Honda Civic that has caught my eye on the "approved used" bit of Honda?s website. Having checked the Car-by-Car Breakdown on here, I feel (as a FIAT owner of some years' standing) that I could probably cope with the things mentioned in "What's Bad"! The model in question is a Civic 1.6 Inspire S, which as far as I can make out consists of an '03 MY 1.6 S with various bits added from the SE spec (air-con, alloys etc.) -
Suzuki S-Cross - advice re. selling 5 Oct 2022 (Forum)
Hello, I'm planning to sell my 2014 Suzuki S-Cross and would appreciate some advice concerning the following dilemma. The car has a dent on the passenger back door (around 35x30cm). I'm having some insurance work done on the body next week and have received a quote of £450 + VAT to repair the dent at the same time. -
S-Max (Mk I) 2015 TDCi 163 - Speed index 13 Nov 2019 (Forum)
Unless I wanted to feature in a police video. It seems crazy. I would have thought an 'R' (106 mph) or 'S' (112 mph) would be OK. I found a similar thread from way back in 2001 and I'm writing more in hope than expectation that common sense now prevails. -
MINI Cooper and Cooper S - Mini for SWMBO, yes or no? 9 Jul 2017 (Forum)
We could afford a MK 2 probably 2011 vintage and fancied a Cooper with the 122bhp 1.6 petrol engine. Now, I know that the more powerful 1.6 THP engine in the Cooper S is a 'no no' having received sound advice on here once when I was thinking about buying a suspiciously cheap Pug 508 with the same lump. I've read about all the cam chain problems and the 'death rattle'. -
Audi A4 3.0 Tdi V6 Quattro July 2012, 28000 miles - S tronic problem 25 Dec 2015 (Forum)
I am concerned about the s tronic auto box. I really like this car. -
Renault Clio Authentique 2001 - Driveshaft CV joint clicking noise 17 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Whatto HJ Got a weird one here. Clicking noise from front o/s driveshaft CV joint - typical clicking of a worn CV. On closer inspection however, it's a brand new driveshaft. I have 3 other Clio's, a 2001 and two 2000's, ( all with known good condition drveshafts ) so I tried both their driveshafts in the problem car to no avail: clicking CV as before even though the driveshafts I used were of known good condition. -
Buying a diesel car - DPF problems 13 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Let`s face it - it`s `normal` to use a car for short trips. Why not more honesty from the manufacturers? And how is the non technically interested motorist ever going to be saved from possible financial disaster, by being given information? -
Rat run - near miss - fear v food 1 Dec 2009 (Forum)
It was long and fast, although I guess that`s a relative term when there`s a Punto van towering over you - the gleam of greased pipes and frames almost overhead. But not quite - NOT QUITE!! ------- made it - although perceived in the languar of retirement relaxation, amongst the lemmings of the morning rush hour, as perhaps a ferret - the poor mans whippet of these Northen climes. -
Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 06 1.8 o/s indicator not working 15 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hi I shall try and be as brief and succinct as poss! My o/s indicator at the back does not work at all. All other lights etc work on the car. Garage has told me I need new ECU as they can detect a signal going to the ECU but there does not appear to be any output telling the indicator to flash. -
Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 06 1.4 Intermittent Brake Lights 14 Jul 2009 (Forum)
However, a bloke in a local garage to work told me that there is a switch by the front passenger door somewhere that may have been knocked but as yet I have not had a chance to check this. As I mentioned they are only intermittently coming on. Any ideas please?. as it?s a bit dangerous considering she does the school run with the kids in the back and I reckon it?s only a matter of time before some bonehead drives into the back of her? Thanks Keith McCormack -
Ford S-MAX (2006 - ) - Advice on backing out of buying one 19 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Hi All, I'm after some advice. 2 weeks ago we did a deal to buy an S-Max on a 56 plate. The car was at another site so we were not able to inspect it. We agreed a price and left a £250 deposit which we were told was refundable. The paperwork however says that it is not refundable.
