• No MOT on used cars from an approved dealership? 24 Dec 2013 (Forum)
  I was thoroughly intrested and took the car for a test drive, which seemed fine, but did not want purchase it today but I managed to snag a picture of the front page of the V5C registration cert. Upon later inspection it turns out the cars previous owner is registered to SCOT GROUP PLC, or the rental company Thrifty. Furthermore using the MOT history checker on the DVLA website the cars registration and V5C reference number gave an error, and did not bring up any past MOT checks, although I had seen service history stamps in the dealership.

  Monday PM 17th visited the Portsmouth DVLA with paperwork to transfer registration to a retention certificate, Thursday telephoned and advised new tax cert, and docs to obtain new plate was ready for collection or post, Saturday recd the new V5C registration document.   When I taxed my car in February the post office clerk took the main part of the V5 document, leaving me with the green and red parts from the bottom. I have just realised that I have yet to recieve the new V5C. As I am selling the car to a dealer next Friday how big a problem to I have?

  Hello I got a letter from the DVLA today, apparently somebody else is trying to register as keeper of my vehicle (Without my knowledge). Somebody has applied for a V5C for my car! This is obviously not correct so I will have to ring up the DVLA as advised on the letter, Has anyone elase experienced this? what is happening here?

  The person I believe had a spare key as I only had one set. I also can not believe that the police informed me that proof of a V5C is not proof of ownership, which really has confused me. Theirs a disclaimer on all V5C forms of this. Does that mean I can take anyone car and claim it as mine? This area is grey in law and I would like someone with knowledge of law, specially vehicle related law and ownership.

  Hi I just bought a car today off of a dealership. I couldn't fill in the v5c forms as he is waiting on them coming back from the dvla as the license plate is a cherished number. I got home and realised there is no mot disc on the windscreen, I phoned him up and he said it was sent off with the v5c and will come back in the post shortly, when it does he will inform me straight away and I have to stop driving.

  So we signed the form, dated few days earlier.  the car has been HPI checked and all is okay, and we received our new V5C form.   later, however, we become concerned more and more, whether we may be responsible for anything wrong happened with this car during the few days gap before our actual acquisition of the car and the form date.

  According to the new VED bands published on DVLA site to take into account Gordons robbery oif yesterday those vehicles with up to 100g/km are now exempt from duty and a free Licence applies. Checking my V5C for the Landie (Defender HT)it quotes g/km as 0.065. Can I now go out tonight and get lathered??? dvd

    Bought a van last week from a dealer, it turns out it is not road worthy and he says he will take it back and refund me.  All I have is the V5C/2.  Do I have to give him that back?  How do I get my road tax refund?  Any advice very welcome.

  Hi everyone, Just bought a car from auction and it had 2 previous owners so I told the cashier to do section 9 as to not put an extra owner on the log book,  My question now is, can I sell this car with the V5C I have - note it is the previous owvers reg certificate with her name on.... not mine   And B how do I sorn it, because the online function is not working.   Thanks all

  I forgot to get the green slip off my V5C when I part-exchanged my car at a dealer's. When I texted him, he said, I didn't need to and he had already sent it off. My tax would be refunded. However, 12 days later the car is still showing as taxed on the DVLA.

  Hello everyone, I hope someone can give me a definitive answer to a simple question: What is the kerb weight of my car? The only weight figure in the V5C log book tells me 1780 kg, The chassis plate says 2340, 4440 and 1040 kg but no indication as to what each figure refers to. I need to know which figure to use to calculate the percentage for towing a caravan.

  Hi all, I want to buy a car but there is a little problem.The owner of the car,the guy whose name is on V5C document,lives outside UK.He left the car here and told a friend of him to sell the car. Is there any way to verify the deal since there is no authorisation from the owner written down?

  I just got a reminder through from the dealership that my 12 month service is due soon. According to the V5C the vehicle registration date is March 25th 2009. Is that the date from which the service due date is calculated (i.e. the 12 month service should be done by March 25th 2010)? Also, if I were to take it in, say on February 20th, would the next service be due by February 20th 2011 or March 25th 2011 (assuming March 25th is the current due date)?

If I go down to the DVLA today and get the transfer onto retention sorted, will I get a new V5C immediately or will they have to send me one in the post? If so, how will that affect me selling the car (auction finishes Saturday morning so buyer may want to collect Sunday). Cheers

  [endif]--> I’m the executor in my late brother’s estate. He owned a car. My solicitor advises that the car can now be sold. I have the V5C which shows my brother as the registered keeper. I wish to send the car to auction but the auctioneers say they cannot accept a vehicle from me if it is not registered in my name. I cannot transfer ownership to myself as section 8 requires a signature from the current registered keeper.

  I recently purchased a 1999 Subaru Legacy, and I have just received a letter from DVLA telling me that it has previously been notified as accident damaged and before I can get a V5C document I will need to put the car through a vehicle identity check costing £41. Obviously I am concerned about the history and condition of the car and I would like my money refunded by the seller.
