  • France/Italy or Scotland - Early March or May? 26 Jan 2009 (Forum)
It`s around 500 miles to get up to north of Applecross from here - only a little less than Reims.. another day from there would be passing through the Alps.. Which would you prefer and why? ;) I`m having trouble deciding - or to put it another way - I have to present viable plans to the boss shortly ;-) Cheers
  • '98 Astra rear shock absorber 5 Feb 2007 (Forum)
On way home from the weekly shop yesterday, passed through some speed humps, and noticed a knock at the rear of the car. Thinking "Oh damn my exhaust hanger has come off again" I carried on for home trying to ignore it! Hubby had a look when I got home and to our shock (excuse the pun!)
  • BMW X5 used off road - shock! 14 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Everyone slowing down to look of course, but since there was no damage I kept going. A very lucky driver I thought. Blow me down if about 10 minutes later he passes me further along the road doing about 85mph..! Well, at least he couldn't be accused of buying a 4x4 and never taking it off road.
  • Motorised roller skates 18 Jan 2003 (Forum)
What was more frightening was the fact that just 20 yards beyond the point where I passed it, it would have reached a roundabout - I hate to think what happened there. Anyone know what the terms of use are supposed to be - road legal or pavement only?
  • Car for young driver 12 Mar 2002 (Forum)
His budget is about £2700 for the car, and his insurance on top of that is likely to be about £1100 on a typical group 2 or 3 car. He has his Pass Plus also which will help to reduce his premium slightly. Anyway, does this seem a suitable car for a young driver? I have seen some decent looking P reg ones with about 50K miles on for less than 3K and they seem well specified.
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee, VW Touareg - another "which car" thread... sorry 1 Mar 2017 (Forum)
hi and yes, this is one of THOSE threads. My father recently passed away and once the house is sold i am doing the adult thing of clearing loans and putting something aside, but i would also like to change my car. i currently have a 2005 honda cr-v 2.2 i-cdti which is the first "suv-ish" car i have owned, and i like the high seating position a LOT, plus the ground clearance and 4wd gets me to and from some out-in-the-sticks fishing spots. there is also an offroading park in a forest very close to me which i would love to have a bash at but doubt the honda would cope.
  • Citroen Picasso - Nightmare with repair costs/engine 15 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Had car back for an hour and same light came on, plus it put putted/huffed and seemed to have no oomph. Took back to garage; they checked out the cylinder by stripping it; said it could be starter motor and replaced that; also checked the throttle and cleaned it out.
  • Ford zetec S - Car juddering creak noise will it ruin car/transmi 24 Sep 2014 (Forum)
I drive a manual car and my car is parked in a incline road so when I stick it in reverse and I would usually apply minimal throttle to make the car move because I don't like to rev the car while my foot is still on the clutch as I heard it isn't good for the clutch but sometimes I don't apply enough throttle then the car will judder or make a creak noise as if the car is about to stall.    I have done it quite regularly or dozen of times since my brother passed his test and he parks quite squint plus on the other side to avoid pavement kerb so I can't do anything but to perform low speed manoeuvre.    I am concerned if this can damage the clutch/transmission or car mechanical components.
  • Musa - Lancia 25 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Having just returned from a holiday in Italy I thought I would pass comment on the hire car I had. With Lancia's return to the UK I was interested to be given a Lancia Musa for two weeks. It appears that this is basically a Fiat Idea with Lancia's corporate nose and badges.
  • Nissan Qashqai (2007 - ) - good choice-opinions/alternives please 19 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I did have an altercation about 5 and a half years ago found against me. My husband is a new driver (30 this year, passed test 4 yrs ago, with pass plus if that counts). We've been paying just under £800 a year for the insurance, I'd not really like to go over that Fuel: I have no idea what to go for here. At all.
  • Mazda 2 - Tree falling on car 24 Apr 2012 (Forum)
She does indeed use it for work as a teacher almost daily and he uses it occasionally.  Incidentally he has passed his IAM Test and is a good driver so will be badly penalised by this stroke of bad luck. Main question though is what are the chances of getting compensation from the local authority for not protecting the road from old trees at the roadside that can be dislodged in the wet weather?
  • New driver - car handling 10 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I got it on the road as his dad turned up then acted as taxi. Does anyone mention this sort of handling during tuition, even pass plus, or is it left up to parents? We know kids are going to pile into cars when a taxi costs so much. Apparently quite a subdued lad at school today - realising he could have killed his friends - and I got a box of choccies.
  • Hatch wiring problems, Savanna 14 May 2005 (Forum)
I?ve got a Renault Savanna. On the boot hatch there are 11 cables plus the hose for the rear window washer, which pass from the harness inside the car body into the boot hatch door. All this is housed in a rubber ?boot? adjacent to the left hand hatch hinge. These cables flex as the door is opened and closed and several have broken.
  • 3 year old Micra or Ka? 21 Mar 2003 (Forum)
She's 28, but I suppose I still need a low insurance group. 3. I want to sell the car privately within a year (assuming she passes) for the same amount I paid for it. 4. I want something fairly quiet and smooth riding, so it doesn't drive me insane on the motorway. 5. I want mid-40s plus economy, and reasonable torque/power. 6.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - Focus Zetec 1.6 --- Views on this please 17 Feb 2009 (Forum)

  • Volkswagen Passat Estate - '04 VW Passat Highline 1.9 TDi Auto Buying advice 26 Oct 2019 (Forum)
The rest of the interior looks in good condition though. He's looking for £500, it's just passed the MOT so I'll hopefully get at least 12 months out of it and I'm just looking for something to get me to work when the weather is s*** as riding can be a chore this time of year when it's p***ing down and blowing a gale.
  • Ford Mondeo Ghia X 24V Mk2 1997 - Emissions MOT Failure 1 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Questions: 1) Do all three cats need to be working to pass emissions testing? 2) If I just replace the back cat, will that work on its own with the others broken? 3) What might have caused the cat or cats to fail (fouled plugs, anything related to poor idle)?
  • Extortionate recovery charges 1 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Well, it had to happen. Youngest future DiL (18) passed her test 13 months ago and just had her first accident. She rear ended a car, and in the process wrote her car off...fortunately low speed and no injuries. The attending police told her that her car could not be left at the side of the road, and gave her the number of a local recovery company.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - RE: Gendan code reader thread. 9 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I tried to find the original thread regarding: http://www.gendan.co.uk/ and their products. Just wanted tp pass on a big 'THANK YOU' to the person that kindly took the time to put this companies details on line for the rest of us to see. You (and Gendan) saved me a lot of time, fiddling about but more importantly - money.
  • Mondeo ST TDCi - fuel system emergency! 3 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Today the Ford dealer has called to say that water contamination in the diesel has caused the fuel pump to break down and pass metal filings into the fuel system. The implication is that the diesel she filled up with 200 miles ago, contained water (no mention of a larger problem caused by the monsoon-like weather here last week).
