  • New MG TF styling 15 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I know the old MGF wasn't much of a looker but why is the new MG TF styled to look like an 80's Opel Manta which itself was derived from the 70's Vauxhall Cavalier. I don't understand all this retro styling, if I want a car to look old I'll buy an old car !

  • Ford Focus - When to change the car 6 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Get a 3-4 year old car every 3-4 years 4. Get a 3-4 year old car and run it into the ground 5. Buy a 6-10 year old car on a whim and a prayer 6. Bangernomics. We generally fall into category no.3 but we've now had current car for over 5 years and there is a danger that we'll slip to cat 4.

  • Toyota Yaris (1999 - 2005) - Yaris - old model or new? 8 Jan 2009 (Forum)
If you had the choice, would you buy the old model Yaris or the new model? Heard several niggles about reliability of the new car.
  • Ford Focus 2003 auto 1.6 Zetec. - Scrapping old car. 2 Aug 2022 (Forum)
I have stopped using my Ford Focus that has an intermittent fault and have bought a newer car which I have taxed and transferred my insurance to. The old Focus is on my drive and I would not want to sell it to anyone with an intermitted fault, the bodywork does have some small dents and scratches as I used it for work and putting ladder on etc.
  • Save How Much? 22 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Its standard practice for car dealers to advertise new cars at £x000 off the list price. Gradually this practice spread to £x000 off a pre-registered car or even perhaps a few month old demonstrator. However lately some of the car supermarkets are advertising £x0000 off quite old second hand cars.
  • Can you still tax car on old v5/2? 17 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I?ve recently started trading in cars part-time and purchased a car from auction the other day, which only came the old-style v5, instead of the new document. (This was not disclosed on the auction house paperwork, so I only found out after payment) The DVLA website states that these are no longer valid (1 July 2005), and checking with them indicates that the car has been issued with a new-style logbook.
  • Ford Focus - Sump Corrosion - 3 year old Focus 17 Aug 2012 (Forum)
I have a three year old Focus (1.8 TDCi 135k) which a mechanic noticed has a serious rust problem on the sump pan. Said he'd never seen it on a car only 3 years old, it's high mileage but it has a panel underneath so the sump should be protected.
  • Anybody ever seen their old car after selling it? 11 May 2011 (Forum)
This could be fun. Has anyone here sold a car on and come across it again? Or seen it on Auto trader or something? I did see my old Mk1 Mondeo 1.6 Saloon in an Asda car park about 18 months ago, it had 165k on it when i got rid of it over three years ago and its still in four shades of blue but seems to be doing well for whoever has it.
  • Old "CAR" magazine enquiry 29 Jun 2006 (Forum)
On a related tangent, does anyone have and want to sell any old issues of "Car" from the early days to late 80s early 90s? I would be interested in buying.
  • Which Old Car? 14 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Has anyone got any ideas about old cars? I'm looking for something in the £600-£800 bracket. Not particularly interested in cars and don't believe in spending a lot of money on them. They seem to break down anyway however posh they are.
  • What were those old disabled cars? 11 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I remember from my childhood lots of these odd green coloured cars about, they were two seaters I think and were adaptod for disabeled people. What were...
  • 1 yr old Mondeo versus 3 yr old Accord 15 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I have a budget of ~£10k and am looking for a petrol family car. I will want to minimise risks by buying from a main dealer. I have been considering a 3 year old Accord Executive saloon. I think they look great, but they don't depreciate that quickly - so I could get a brand new one for £16k - but that is outside my budget.

  • Taxation of Old Cars 22 Nov 2009 (Forum)
There has been considerable discussion about scrapping older "classic" cars to obtain the £2000 allowance. Currently only cars first licenced before 1972 are eligible for road tax exemption. This means that there are cars of up to 35 years old that have to pay the full £190 annual road tax.
  • Do any car hire companies hire cars to 19 year old 9 Jan 2002 (Forum)
If anybody knows a company that does or may do, please could they let me have the phone number. Thanks a lot, Giles
  • who maintains a cheap old car 30 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Okay so the words "old" and "cheap" are relative but I have a van that is 8 years old and a car that is 13 years old. I am getting insulting comments about both of them with garages telling me they might not be worth repairing and friends saying it is time I got new ones.
  • Old cars, modern fluids. 1 Dec 2009 (Forum)
To sort out a debate we had in the office today. Are modern fuels and oils beneficial for old cars? If a common pushrod engine from the mid 60?s (Ford Zephyr for example) were to be completely rebuilt as original and then run using synthetic oil and modern fuel (with lead replacement additives if required), would it fare much better now, mile for mile than it would have when it was new?
