Hi, Just had an oil and filter change done on the Yaris at National Tyres with Synthetic oil for £25. The oil they used was Duckhams QXR 5w-30 for Ford zetec engines. Their advert mentioned visco 7000 which I know is synthetic.
  • Gearbox Oil Change 25 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Previously Honest John has recommended a change at first service. Based on this I booked my Mondeo II in for a first service last week and requested an oil change. Main dealer says the box is sealed for life. True or False?
  • Renault Megane 1.9dci 2007 - Use of oil extractor for oil change 4 Oct 2011 (Forum)
The car is too low to the ground to do a traditional oil change easily and I like to change the oil on my cars at 6k and going for a full service at a good independent garage at the specified 18k.
  • changing oil filters 26 Sep 2005 (Forum)
When changing oil filters, the makers tell you to coat the rubber sealing ring with engine oil. I still use the method that used to be recommended years ago which is to smear grease on the seal. Does any one else still use this method and what is the purpose anyway?
  • Changing engine oil 5 Mar 2001 (Forum)
I'd like to add to David's enquiry and ask for views on changing to a different oil. I have heard/read some opinions suggesting that you should stick to the oil that was installed when the car was manufactured, which seems a bit extreme to me and puts Mobil 1 in the shade for a start.

  • Oil Change - any car 2 Aug 2004 (Forum)
My mate has driven less than 1000 miles in his car over 18 months because he has use of a company vehicle. He drives it at least once a week, to normal temperature, on a 12-15 mile round trip. He's not changed the oil (10/40 mineral) in this period. How urgent would you say an oil change is?

  • Vauxhall Meriva A MPV (2003 - ) - 07 1.7 oil changes needed every 6000 miles 6 Feb 2009 (Forum)
At 3 months and 6000 miles the hydraulic tappets on this deisel were a-tappeting away rather noisily so I changed the oil with Vauxhall fully synthetic (£70) At 6 months and 12000 miles the oil is black and they are starting to be noisy again. So what happened to 20000 mile oil changes and what would be a good idea to check or do?
  • DIY servicing - Extended intervals - a proposal? 29 Jul 2013 (Forum)
A period when, in my opinion, some damage is done to the engine. Advantages (when filter not changed): No potentially damaging priming period on initial start Simpler/quicker oil change. Less mess (used filters always are messy to handle) Save a tenner Save a bit of oil (on the non-filter change service) Possibility of using cheaper oil??

  • Oil changes 28 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I see that someone (in Saturday's Telegraph) has had the temerity to challenge HJ's advice about the frequency of oil changes (a braver man than me, evidently!). The fool goes on to suggest that his Skoda Octavia is fine with its oil changes at 20,000 miles. What I should like to know is: a) who is this character, so we may avoid his car when he finally parts with it?

  • Oil change prices 20 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Today I have been quoted £18.99 for an oil and filter change on the Laguna, Using semi synth oil. It was by those boy's in the blue outfits, does anyone know of any cheaper deals around? This one looks pretty good to me - not worth getting under the car to do it myself at this price.
  • Ford Mondeo 2.0 tdci 2017 - oil change message at 7000km 22 Aug 2023 (Forum)
First the guy in the garage poured Total Quartz (which had to be fine for the model) Last year was fine but this year had to change the oil 2-3 times then I blamed the oil and last time used the original castrol from the local ford dealer.  The issue is still on. The ECU recalls  error message of "oil deterioration".
  • Mitsubishi Outlander - Outlander gear change stiff after oil change 14 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Anyway, we had the oil changed but since then 1st and 2nd gear are stiff to engage. It's going back in for them to have a look, but they insist they will have used the right grade oil. I'm beginning to wonder whether chaning the oil was such a good idea.
