  • Police hunt stolen Mini 18 Sep 2014 (News)
    Police are appealing for information after a classic Mini was stolen in Dartford, Kent. The car, which is white and registered C862 CTM, was stolen from St Vincents Road between 6pm on 30 August and 1pm on 31 August. It was not driveable so police believe a low-loader was used to move the car.

The 1972 Austin 1000 has been drafted in as a last-minute replacement to take part in the event, which is often billed as the world’s toughest endurance rally for classic and vintage cars. The Mini is actually a last-minute replacement for Paul and Chris Hartfield’s pre-war Packard, which required too much work to meet the event’s deadline for having cars shipped out to China.

    Historics Classic Car Auction at Brooklands on 29th August will feature Mini Cooper S models from 1966 and 1998, and a 1987 Mini Mayfair for resto offered at no reserve. The 1966 Mini Cooper 1275S in Almond Green with white top is unusually restored to original standard appearance on steel Cooper S wheels. Suspension is factory hydrolastic, but the engine has been stripped, reconditioned and mildly modified with LCB manifold, RC40 single silencer and new 1.5" SU carburettors with pancake air filters, although the original 1.25" carburettors and filter housing are included in the sale.

    The film has been produced by key members of the BBC Top Gear production team, including its director and features stunts performed in red, white and blue London 2012 special edition MINIs, against the backdrop of some of the capital's most iconic landmarks including the Houses of Parliament and Knightsbridge. The film features several references to the original movie, including MINIs emerging from the same Park Lane basement as used in the 1969 classic, traversing down the Duke of York Steps off the Mall, and a chase through London's stunning Leadenhall market.
