  • High Mileage Hitting Prices Hard at Auction 15 Jun 2011 (News)
Dearest today was an 18k mile 09 1.25 Zetec in Squeeze Green sold for £6,650, though another almost identical, sold for £6,350 and an 18k mile 2008/58 Style 1.2 3-door sold for £5,350. That’s up on what 2-year-old Fiestas traditionally made. Cheapest car of the day was a 120k mile 2005/54 Peugeot 307SW 2.0HDI 90 S, gone for £1,550s. Only 5 seats, but still a useful car which I hope not to see spoiling a family holiday on a hard shoulder somewhere this summer.
  • 06 F430 bids £111k at Auction Today 12 Nov 2007 (News)
It also shows that if you’re going to buy a disposable car and run it to high mileage, you’ll lose a lot less money on a Mondeo TDCI LX than you will on a Ghia. Here’s the list. As usual, ‘s’ means sold. ‘p’ means top provisional bid, ‘n/s’ means not sold.

  • Hidden Hero: Peugeot 307 GT Feline 13 Sep 2019 (News)
It hid its light under a bushel, too, for apart from slightly bigger rims (styled to look as insipid as the smaller alloys in the 307 line-up) and part-leather seats with slightly thicker bolsters, it didn’t look like much of a performance car. It was almost as if Peugeot had tried to make the 307 interesting and then apologised halfway through, putting the boring bits back in place. The 307 GT Feline is, as a result, a very rare car today.
  • A Grand Monday: Honda S-MX 21 Aug 2017 (News)
The odometer shows 192,000, which is made up of miles and kilometres - it was converted at point of import in 2008, at which time it had covered 102,000 kms, which is around 62,000 miles. So, in total, 150,000 miles or so. The car is located near Aberystwyth.
  • A Grand Monday: Ford Scorpio Ultima 24 Jul 2017 (News)
Indeed, road testers of the day compared its handling capabilities to those of a contemporary BMW. In many respects, then, the Scorpio wasn't a bad car. There was very little sense in buying one new thanks to ridiculous levels of depreciation (the looks, again, didn't help), so the vast majority were sold into fleets and covered high mileages. As a result, few have survived.

  • Lightweight Porsche 911 Turbo S breaks half million barrier at auction 16 May 2017 (News)
A lightweight Porsche 911S Turbo Leichtbau sold for £556,875 at auction over the weekend. Fierce competition from two bidders at the Silverstone Auctions sale pushed the car over the half-a-million mark when it went under the hammer on 13 May. Porsches in general sold well, with a 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster sold for £164,250 (exceeding its lower estimate by £19,250).
  • A Grand Monday: Mercedes-Benz C180 15 Aug 2016 (News)
Well, whereas the old-school Benzes were the absolute byword for longevity, renowned for being over-engineered and having the best build quality of any car in the world, their successors had been more closely inspected by the Stuttgart bean counters, whose desire to save money overruled the desire of those who wanted to make them the best they could be.
  • A Grand Monday: Volvo 340 18 Jul 2016 (News)
And that means they survived. What nobody was expecting, though, was that they would become a cult car. Yet the 340’s layout, with its rear transaxle, means near 50:50 weight distribution, better than a Porsche 911. Which made it a popular choice with drifters. Not the bad, the drivers who prefer going sideways over going forwards.
  • Skoda Fabia vRS (2010-) 19 Jun 2016 (News)
Engine 1390cc turbocharged petrol TSI, 180PS and 250Nm Performance  0-62mph in 7.3 seconds, top speed 139mph Economy 45.6mpg combined Transmission Seven-speed DSG automatic Price new £16,415 The original Fabia vRS was such a popular car and gained a very keen following, so it wasn’t surprising that there was plenty of anticipation about the second generation model as soon as the new Fabia was launched in 2007. So we waited and waited.
