I currently own a 2015 Renault Twingo Dynamique S with 35,000 miles on the clock. I have owned the car from new and it has always been serviced by a Renault...
  • Starting problems on a Ford S-MAX. What's causing it? 20 Jan 2015 (Ask HJ)
Our car, an S-Max 2L petrol (2009), seems to have developed a fault but the garage’s diagnostics are far from clear. About 2 months ago the engine warning...
  • I replaced my diesel Octavia with a petrol Avensis and have saved a lot of money. 16 Jun 2012 (Ask HJ)

  • nissan micra s auto 2001 - advice on what to get sorted? 23 Nov 2024 (Forum)
In total I've not spent anywhere near over it's original buying price on repairs, so I'd say it's almost paid for itself in a way. It has showed it's s*** side a couple times whilst I've had it though; it broke down slap bang in the middle of the road from the old battery going bad, it also cut out being put from park to drive on a dual carriageway (pulling off from a layby) however sprang right back to life when i restarted it, still unexplained.
  • Auction visit 3 Apr 2024 (Forum)
Too much money. 2015 Skoda Octavia 1.4 TSi SE 5dr - 54,000 miles. Tidy car but had poorly matched o/s wing repaint. Made £5,500 plus fees. Good car for someone who’s not too fussy. 2017 VW Golf 1.6 TDi S 5dr 103,000 miles but tidy and with good history. Made £5,850 plus fees. Emissions warning light on will mean money spent.
  • New car vs Used car 29 Oct 2021 (Ask HJ)
We're a family of five and have been driving a 2009 Ford S-Max Titanium that we've had for six years. The car has been ideal as we often use the 7 seats...
  • Extended Test Drive of a BMW 520d 9 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Unfortunately the E has now been removed from my list so although I wasn’t that keen, I decided to drive an Audi A S-Line as a comparison to the BMW 5 series. Anyway, the BM was delivered and had circa 5,000 miles under its belt so was loosened up nicely. Initial impressions on driving it away were underwhelming.
  • Driving simulator experience 9 Sep 2009 (Forum)
For me this does include using a hands free mobile for demanding conversations as I crashed while using a hands free system to play a child?s game. If you get the chance to go on a similar driving simulator snap up the chance.
  • What car will fit in my small garage? 25 Mar 2025 (Ask HJ)

  • Why are EVs not more streamlined? 5 Mar 2025 (Ask HJ)

  • Will a used Subaru from 2006 still have a warranty? 1 Aug 2024 (Ask HJ)

  • Abarth 500 - Found out the car I bought two days ago was stolen 26 May 2024 (Forum)
I am not going to go into the details of the transaction but I was obviously fleeced and he did a pretty good job at making sure I had no concerns.   The car was advertised as CAT S and advertised at a lower price to reflect this. The guy had some paperword for the car but not much, and explained that the car was from a Salvage Auction hence not having any service history.   When I cleaned the car yesterday I came across a bunch of business cards in a hidden cubby hole.
  • Van owners: LPG is dying, let's talk biomethane! 24 Mar 2024 (Forum)
Biomethane is functionally the same as methane and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). It's very eco-friendly. Made of straw bales, cow s*** and other things. Burns even more cleanly than LPG and bioLPG. Many big HGV fleets in Europe (inc. Waitrose, M&S and Royal Mail) are converting to it, because EVs are just not practical for long distance trucking.
