  Hi, Does anyone know what the additional running costs are for a DSG gearbox over a manual equivalent? I've read that the gearbox needs a fluid top-up at 40k miles which is quite dear, but this wasn't substantiated. I'm thinking of buying a 2.0 GT FSI DSG as they seem good value, but don't want to be hit with huge maintenance costs.

  I run a Yaris diesel (from new for 2 years) and have noticed a loud rattling sound from the engine compartment when starting the car in wet weather. I stress this only happens in wet weather and this has happened from when I first purchased the car.

  Hello My Primera is encountering a problem but only when it is up to running temperature. When I've been driving for about 10 mins the rev counter starts to jump around and if I put my foot down the performance is affected. When I have finished the journey and get out of the car there is a burning smell.

  The question is what will the car market do over the next six months. Since we will be buying something that will be a bit thirsty costly to run I am thinking of buying something for £1000-1500 to keep her mobile until early next years and then spending real money (£10k or more) when hopefully prices have dropped more. What do people think?

  Last year it passed no problems. It has 42,000 miles on the clock and she only uses it for school run a pootling around town. Just wanted to know if there is anything specific I should be checking for before I take it. I am taking it to local garage - not dealer and they have always been straight with us before and never ripped us off.

  I have a Vectra 2ltr tdi on a 51 plate, thing is if i gun it the engine management light comes on and revs wont go over 2500rpm. If i stop turn the engine off and then restart it then it runs fine, it will go up to a ton no probs. this only happens if i gun the engine over say 3500-4000rpm. Anyone got any ideas plaease

  could any1 please tell me what to do my car starts after turning over 5 times . starts with smoke. smoke clears car runs fine for about 5 mins cuts out . i have changed the fuel fillter primed it up. started it again started first time but then did the same and cut out. the priming pump was flat (sucked in)

  When I raise the clutch to engage the drive shft a rubbing noise happens. The brake pad smell is there from just the engine running. The biting point does feel at a good point when lifting the peddle as if the clutch isn't gone. Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance

  right i'm dealing with this bravo 1.2 16v which when you put your foot down the revs pic up but nothing realy happens, i'm thinking something along the lines of throttle possitioning sensor or a blocked fuel filter, but i can't seem to find it, the engine manegment flashes for a while but eventualy goes, the problm is more likely to happen when running cold. thanx

  That presumably means they are either very reliable, or have all been scrapped as hopelessly unreliable. Does anybody keep a running total? Would it tell us anything useful?
• Peugeot 405 Diesel (1988 - 1996) - 1994 1.9 - Dead when turning the ignition key 30 May 2008 (Forum)
  When I turn ignition key nothing happens, but battery is fine and when I run a direct live feed to the solenoid the car starts and drives ok. Mechanic suggested that either the ignition switch or the starter relay is faulty, but I cannot locate the starter relay, any ideas where it is located or has anyone had a similar experience.

  Had the exhaust system checked out for any leaks & that's fine. Can't smell anything under the hood when engine running. Are they all like this letting in the traffic fumes? Leaves a taste in the throat. Any advice words of wisdom?

  Hi I can hear a lot of water running around in my car when I'm driving. It sounds as if a large amount of water is rushing from the front of the car to the back and vice versa depending on whether i'm reversing / going forward/ going up or down a hill.

  Mk1 Golf 1.5 Cab - parked in a garage in a fully running condition. Left for four years. Engine now seized. Nothing has been done to it since it came out of the garage. What do you suggest, BRs? Car has 86k, FVSH, sound hood, one wing to be painted and I've bought it for £300!

  Hi, I recently purchased a 04 reg merc c-class saloon c220 CDI diesel with 90k miles. Car runs fine but there is always a lingering smell of diesel / oil in the cabin and outside the car. Patriculalry if you put the blowers on full when starting the car. There are no apparent leaks and the engine looks clean underneath the bonnet with no oil spills apparent.

  ive had this car a month and been reading that the mpg is shocking on this car just done a 60 mile run on the motorway and got ,1st 30 miles at 75mph at 27mpg on the dash read out ,then the next 30 miles back home at 60mph was 40mpg is this good i think it is ,whats your thoughts regards tony

  All I can see from the extremely long thread on VED increases that quite a few of us have strong views about the retrospective nature of the changes. In case you don't know, there is an e-petition running which objects to these changes. It can be found at the web address below. http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/UNFAIR-VED/ I know it won't do any good, but it still made me feel a bit better having signed up to it!

  The engine in this car used to run like silk. However it developed an irritating vibration about 2100 revs and this has developed into a general roughness with another vibration high at just over 1000 revs. (The crankshaft vibration damper was replaced before this problem started.)

  Help! My Focus is only delivering 23-25 mls per gallon on a run and some town work,115,000 mls, new plugs, leads, air filter, replaced so far. Would new injectors help or is this normal MPG, in the real world,for this model? No problems with performance, doesn't use oil, any ideas, experiences welcome!

  When the engine starts cold the Dashboard & all Lights & Electrics flash for approx 90 seconds. which makes the rpm jump slightly every second, sounds similar to a choke upping the rev's to warm the engine up but it makes a noise as if something has switched off in the engine when is decides to run normal after the 90 seconds. can it be bad earth or relay??
