  • Astra 1.7 TD '98 Estate - Knocking noise 18 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Put car on lift and spent next 30 minutes rocking, prising, pushing and pulling various joints and bushes underneath. Even resorted to driving the car back and forth a few inches on the lift whilst colleague listened underneath. Then they both went for another test drive. Outcome is they can hear it but as cannot reproduce the noise in the shop, cannot tell me what it is!
  • Temporary car?? 28 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Oh and by the way, anyone who comes from the north west and suggests a Mondeo TDCi will get a pint poured over them at the BR NW New Year meet - when Adam finally get around to sorting it out [sigh]. -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
  • Nissan X Trail Letdown 14 Nov 2005 (Forum)
On Friday I looked around a new X Trail and liked the interior, clever design, rugged looks and an excellent 0% finance deal to boot. I booked a test drive Saturday AM. I was up early cleaning the Leon inside and out, checked Parkers for trade-in price, took all the paperwork and headed off to do the deal, except for a slight problem: I didn't like it.
  • how to get a refund due to dodgy car 3 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Handling seems a bit soggy, and ride crashes a fair bit, but figured it?s done 80k, that?s the way it drives. Anyway, took it down some country lanes in Essex to office today and had to slow right down. Car nearly lost grip on back end at 35mph round a bend. Furthermore, driving at JUST 40mph down country lanes leads to a feeling of the front bobbing up and down, and you do not feel that the car is planted to the road at all.
  • Which car for around £3-4k? 31 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Hello all, I'm in need of a car which would be suitable for long distance motoring as I'm planning to start following my footy team around the country... but (as any woman would) I have a list of requirements: Max £4k in price Reliability is key Low insurance group (I'm still classed as a 'young driver') Economical (45mpg+ for m/way driving..!) Preferably no older than 5yrs. Now given the last point, I'm thinking diesel, unless I plan to drive a petrol extremely frugally (and that's about as likely as me buying a Smart car tomorrow).
  • Nissan Primera 1998 problems 19 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Recently, though It has had a real problems which a host of franchises, independent and specialist garages have been unable to locate. Basically the car pulls to the left under normal driving. At motorway speeds, the steering goes dangerously light, and the car veers both left and right. On country roads, the car is an absolute nightmare. I have dunlop 200e tyres fitted, all new in the last year.
  • BMW 528 exhaust / cat hot tick problem 8 Sep 2005 (Forum)
This happens both once the engine is off for some considerable time (20 minutes), but also there's audible hot ticking noise when the engine is idling, and it's noticeable when driving with the window open in a confined area such as a car park, or driving alongside a wall. I've had a close look underneath and referred to the recently introduced Haynes manual for the car. The exhaust appears to be one complete system, all the brackets and mountings seem to be in good order, as does the exhaust itself.
  • Unmarked Police Car - possibly? 11 Aug 2005 (Forum)
    If he had stopped me it would have been my word against the 2 officers in the car and guess what would have happened ? Surely they aren't allowed to drive like that ? {Subject header slightly amended. DD}
  • Change in Breakdown Service 3 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I needed to have my car recovered last week due to putting a hole in the sump !!!! and called my breakdown service (I know that I am not allowed to name them, but they drive DELETED {So, you're not going to name them, but you still think it's ok to mention what colour vans they drive - think again. Mentioning their colour is as good as mentioning their name, hence the deletion.
  • Wife a victim of road rage 15 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Next thing, the idiot accelerates past, swings wildly in front of her and in doing so claps on his brakes forcing her to do a full blown emergency stop. She had the presence of mind to pull out and drive on immediately before Chav/Mrs Chav had a chance to come back to the car. She readily admits she made a mistake, but there is no excuse for this yobbish behaviour! She's now saying she isn't confident about driving in the area in question again.
  • does anyone else find car mags boring? 23 Mar 2005 (Forum)
then in copies from a few years ago ago they told you what a massive improvement that was over the last model. surely if it goes on the way it is well all be driving 300 mpg supercar estates by the time were fifty then one or two mags pick on a in offensive little car like a getz or a touran or meriva something out of the ordinary and they know most people wont drive and then slag it off.
  • Mondeo condensation 22 Nov 2004 (Forum)
However, I'm asking what your advice to me would be about the following: I took a used Mondeo hatch (registered beginning of this year) for a test drive last Saturday late afternoon / early evening. It'd been brought up from a dry storage area below ground to rather damper conditions above, though it wasn't raining. Just cold and 'moist'. All was well during the drive except for excessive condensation from the start on the interior of all the windows - it was so bad on the back window that I could hardly see out of it.
  • Problem with Clio 5th Gear 28 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I had it in the garage a few weeks ago and they could find nothing wrong with it (I guess they only drove it 1 mile). I drive 50 miles round trip every day. At first I thought it was something I was doing wrong but I have got used to the car now since I have been driving a manual for 2 months (being an auto driver for 2 years).
  • Band van 18 Oct 2004 (Forum)
As they also work full time, something that might need mechanical attention isn't an option. However, as they're reasonably well paid, something relatively recent and car-like to drive probably is. So if we have an arbitrary budget of £6k including VAT (only £1,500 each in essence, and of course it should retain its value quite well) what would be the van experts' suggestions?
  • Ins Groups 5 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Therefore would it be possible for manufacturers to build engines that have the acceleration, torque etc that is required and used in every day driving, but do away with the top end speed that, lets face it, very few would need? As a result, could the engines then be made more economical? And, could this then be used to lower ins groups or is top end speed not so much a factor in the grouping?
  • I wonder if there's anyone like me? 22 Sep 2004 (Forum)
....well I know what I wanted to say but it didn't come out quite right. I personally hate any kind of radio, CD, cassette etc music when I'm driving. For some reason I find it incredibly annoying, especially radio-talk with the damn commercials every 3.3 minutes for shampoos or intimate feminine essentials promoted by soap opera "stars" Thus my cars always get sold on with pristine sound systems.
  • Did he really think this through? 26 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Anyone in a flat cap & rover is going to find themselves pushed along at 70 whether they wanted to go that fast or not! How can frustrating drivers help road safety? It is a well known fact that people drive more dangerously when they are stressed so causing people stress will just lead to more incidents of dangerous driving. I also find it ironic as just as they are finally sorting out the A500 around Stoke so it doesn't have a couple of useless roundabouts in the middle and instead passes over a flyover; the mayor wants to discourage people from using it.
  • Great moment 22 Aug 2004 (Forum)
For a few miles I consider why he braked .Then I think I guess it. I drive an Omega , and I happened to be wearing a shirt very similar in colour to that used my many constabularies ! I really hope I adjusted his disgestive system for those few seconds, and that even now he may be wondering if he's about to get a very unwelcome letter !
  • Congestion Charging v Road Tax 22 Jul 2004 (Forum)
It makes me wonder how the people who make up these publicly funded bodies think the economy works. People who drive high milages invariably do so because their business requires them to, and any increased costs would be passed back to the consumer by those who were not forced into bankrupcy by the charge. The cost would also effect those whose businesses export goods or services which must be difficult enough already with competition from far east countries who can already undercut in many areas.
  • Bus Lane covert Cameras 30 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Is this common practise now to use community s************s to catch motorist? This friend of the family does not ever intentionally drive in bus lanes when they are in force. Even I nearly got caught out Sunday as I travelling in a certain part of the country and the bus lane enforcement times changed several times within a short driving distance.
