  • Grand Voager 2002 2.5 CRD - Noise then progressive power loss/misfiring 13 May 2013 (Forum)
The engine still starts but sounds as if it is misfiring badly and there is no power. With the engine running I have disconnected each of the four injectors one at a time. Each time the engine stops but restarts once the injector is reconnected. The fuel pump is working. We have put it on a Snap On code reader and nothing shows.
  • 2004 chevrolet tracker 2.0 hdi (peugeot partner) - Intermitent stalling, codes 1517, 1138, 1112 30 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Sometimes frequently (every km or so) sometimes it will go as far as 60 to 100 km with no prob. It will not always shut off instantly with the key but will run an extra 3 to 4 seconds or so. We suspect a faulty pressure regulator  again since the symtoms are identical with the prev occasion. If so what is eating these regulators up. If not- any advice?
  • 4x4 - looking for a new car! 14 Mar 2013 (Forum)
at only £10 a year road tax and nearly 500 miles to a tank of petrol it has been a dream.... but we have recently moved out of London to Kent and we are surrounded by b***** hills!! My poor Hybrid is having a fit on the school run every day and today with all the snow I really missed my Pajero.... so we are now thinking about getting a 4x4 but we really want an econimical car which is not going to kill us with the tax/insurance and petrol cost!
  • Nissan Micra K12. 03 plate - Oil consumption / smoking 9 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Also done pressure test on cooling system which held up fine.but since refitting head, exhaust is very smoky, plugs are oily and oil on top of pistons, of course. Apart from oil issue, starts and runs well. I suspect a problem with crankcase compression , a blocked breather or hose but from what I can find all looks ok. Anybody got any suggestions or had similar problem ? Plan to test further for c c comp tomorrow , thanks steve

  • Any - DPF - What is all the fuss about ? 19 Feb 2013 (Forum)
it does say somewhere deep in the owners manual that its not suitable for use in places like the channel islands. The implication being that it will only be driven at speeds uo to 40 mph and mainly short runs from cold. So what are the ideal circumstances for this piece of equipment ? And is all the scaremongering going on about it now, similar to what we had about removal of lead from petrol in the 1990s, when the nation semed to be more concerned with the state of its valve seats than with its children's brains. as the main benefit of the DPF is to prevent nastly soot particles geting into people's lungs.
  • ???? A5 / 5 series size - Motorway Car...advice appreciated 15 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I am after a good looking car that is good on the motorway, comfortable for long drives (4-6 hours) and reasonable to run. Looking at spending around 12-15k and looking to get something upto 4 years old with under 60k on the clock. I'll be doing approx 20,000 miles a year and look to keep it for 3ish years. Looking at the likes of VW Passat cc GT, A5, Merc CLK, Lexus IS220d, BMW 5 series or a Jag XF.
  • EAC error 24 Jan 2013 (Forum)
When the AA came out no fault could be found on his diagnostic report and advised it looks like it runs ok. Checked under bonnet no issues with engine  etc.  He advised to go to garage to get a better diagnostic report as there software is not good.  I then called into a halfords garage and he said there report would be the same as the AA IF no fault could be found, unsure whether I should go to a ford dealer for an indepth report or is this just a con?
  • Peugeot 106 - Peugeot TUD5 1.5 Diesel Smokes/Starts hard 20 Dec 2012 (Forum)
I have it rebuilt but when I go to start it, the engine just cranks until I spray a tiny amount of starting fluid in the air intake.  It will then run but continues to blow white smoke (not from water).  Once the engine is warm, I can shut it off, but it takes about 5-8 seconds of cranking to start without starting fluid.  The engine has just under 2000 hours on it.
  • Audi A3 - Water pump impeller (?) blades broke off..... 7 Dec 2012 (Forum)
We put the thermostat in hot water to see if it would open, it didn't (could be a faulty one?) My daughter is, for the time being running the car without the thermostat. I have read that there could be parts of the blades somewhere in the car, i.e. hoses ? If so how can these be removed, also where else could these bits be. Is it possible that this can clear itself and if not, what would be the next thing to do.
  • Peugeot 306 1.8 se cabriolet 2001 - Battery problems 29 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I recently bought a new car and decided to garage the peugeot (which has been working fine) everything excellent never any problems. I went  to run up the engine after 3 weeks but the battery was flat (maybe I left something on or not).  After the charge she fired up and I ran the car. No probs. Checked all lights were off etc. The next day I thought I would give the battery a check..
  • Renault Clio - Clio 1998 1.4 Problems while warming up 4 Nov 2012 (Forum)
Hi My Clio has definately done well considering we've got it to 140K miles now but looking to keep it running for as long as possible. I've currently got an issue though when the engine is warming up. It is fine once at mid level temparture. When pressing down on the gas it starts off ok but then will drop dramatically and there will be no accelaration.
  • Volvo V50 Diesel - Wise buy? Volvo V50 1.6 Diesel (better than 2.0l?) 16 Aug 2012 (Forum)
A few horror stories around the internet, which seem to centre on the 2.0litre diesel(poor fuel economy, engine probs) I wonder if the 1.6 diesel unit is a better, more reliable unit. It should also have better fuel economy. Monthly running costs are very important to me, I can't afford a car which is going to let me down. I do about 1k miles/month. Does anyone have a view on these cars?
  • Focus Estate Diesel - Ford focus timing belt 7 Jun 2012 (Forum)
I have a focus estate with 162K on the clock that I am running into the ground. The garage who are MOTing it next week want to know whether the timing belt has been changed? I.e. if not they want to do it. I vaguely remember the dealer saying that the timing belt had just been done when I bought the car at 90K miles 4 years ago.
  • Mazda 323 Diesel - Turbo - possible problem? 9 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I also disconected the air feed tube to the actuator valve ( blanked off tube) and there was no difference in the car's running or performance. Please could someone inform me if there is a problem or perhaps this is the normal action of a turbo?
  • Volkswagen Up - Volkswagen Up sales 3 Apr 2012 (Forum)
My car fell to pieces last week, so I bought a VW TakeUp. I like small cars and I run them into the ground. Anyway, the sales chap told me they had sold half their years allocation already, ~35 cars. Anyone in the trade know if he is likely to be correct, or is he trying to make the car sound like it is in high demand?
  • audi a4 b5 - a5 b5 help please 14 Mar 2012 (Forum)

  • Mercedes E270CDI - Ticking Like Clock ....when engine on and off??? 15 Feb 2012 (Forum)
He is terminally ill but has hopes of driving it again one day.I've driven it for 3mths with no problems. After a speedy 12 mile run across fast country roads on Saturday to my parents, on my return journey I experienced loss of power...foot down flat but only got to 30mph. After stopping and restarting all was fine. Now notice a loud intermittent ticking noise from engine - just like a clock - when i drive it.
  • 1.2 Vauxhall Corsa 2007. - Non existent spare wheels 5 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Although I currently run a 2007 Corsa this query is not about my present car. I am researching getting a later car and am doing all the usual reading etc. When I spoke with a salesperson at the Vauxhall main dealer he said that Vauxhall did not provide a spare wheel on any of their cars, not even a spacesaver, only a can of sealant.
  • Ford Focus 2005 TD - intermittent loss of engine power 28 Dec 2011 (Forum)
At any time when driving, all dashboard lights come on and engine loses all power though keeps running, then all goes back to normal after a few seconds or so: then it may or may not do it again. Also intermittently, engine won't start and again all dashboard lights are on: if the car is rocked, it will start, sometimes immediately, sometimes after several rockings.
