Renault Clio - Clio 1998 1.4 Problems while warming up - swearles

Hi

My Clio has definately done well considering we've got it to 140K miles now but looking to keep it running for as long as possible. I've currently got an issue though when the engine is warming up. It is fine once at mid level temparture.

When pressing down on the gas it starts off ok but then will drop dramatically and there will be no accelaration. I am able to keep the revs up though just enough to keep about 30-40mph, but no more. Then the gas comes back again and all is ok. But then it may drop again without warning. Seems to be just happening while accelarating rather than constant speed.

Any clues as to what could be causing this? Obviously the car is worth less than any major repair so hoping just a quick sensor change somewhere but i am not too engine savy.

From what you have reported, it sounds like the coolant temperature sensor needs changing, which is straightforward to do. After that, I would check the mass airflow meter to ensure that it is clean and not blocked in any way. Is it time to replace the air filter I wonder?

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll get a replacement coolant temp sensor to start with then, and then maybe a full service is needed.
