  • KPH Speedometers 7 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Can anyone clarify the law on driving a car with a KPH only speedometer? Is it illegal to drive such a car on UK roads? Or will it only be a problem when the MOT is due?
  • Ford Focus 30 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Is the 1.8 Focus a much better drive than the 1.6? I currently drive a 1.6 and agree with HJ's comments about flat performance at motorway speeds.
  • Vectra 98R 2.0 16V Cutting Out 23 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Arrive after an hour, car starts fine, and drives home fine. Day 2. Drive to work 15 miles and 20 minutes rural A road. All fine no ECU light. Drive home, after 10 minutes car judders once, ECU light comes on stays on, but car seems to be driving fine.
  • Autonomous driving light 21 Nov 2023 (Forum)
In future, there should be some way of communication across autonomous cars so that one can tell about obstacles ahead via some preset radio frequency.  We may even get autonomous driving lanes and human driving lanes. More useful than bus lanes which remain empty most of the time.
  • Polestar 2 - Test drive 24 Jun 2021 (Forum)
Just had an enjoyable morning heading to the Trafford Centre to test drive a Polestar 2 at their site. They don’t have any dealerships, just a permanent centre in Milton Keynes and the TC, and regional ‘pop up’ test drive centres that operate for a few days then move on.
  • Any - New driving test 16 Nov 2017 (Forum)
No doubt this has been discussed here before, so apologies for raising it again, but it is due to be introduced very soon.  The new driving test, from 4th December. No three point turn, though instructors will still be advised to teach it, no reversing around corners, though instructors will etc. 20 minutes of independent driving instead of 10, following directions from a sat nav, parallel park, reversing two car lengths on the right hand side of the road then rejoining traffic (might as well have gone the whole hog and introduced a parallel park on the right hand side of the road, a useful skill I never learned until well after my test).
  • Nissan Almera - Daughters Car Accident 3 Jun 2017 (Forum)
My daughter had an accident when she was driving from her drive down the road and passed two parked cars when a car reversed blindly from his drive and hit my daughter on the rear wheel arch. My daughter had right of way.  The guy entered into her path.
  • Drive around / near London? Conducting research 23 Nov 2015 (Forum)
It would involve me sitting in your van / car and observing your daily driving and parking problems, pain points and habits, ideally for a few hours. I'd want you to continue your day job as normal, with me asking the occasional question. Or if you're unable to do that, a phone call or Skype chat would do.
  • X5 3.0 petrol X5 2001 Auto - Erratic drive from cold / Missfire: 11 Apr 2014 (Forum)
H i, Hope you can help with the following issue, From initial start for cold [but not all the time] there is very erratic throttle response, drives slowly, then quicker by jerking forward feels as though it is misfiring [but the rev counter remains steady!] then after say about ¼ mile or so it'll suddenly drive normally, no further issues, until, i start it again from cold, although during normal driving it will occasionally start to slow with little throttle response, have to stop switch off & restart and that usually clears it, no warning lights or any messages are displayed, except very occasionally   "TRANS.FAIL-SAFE PROG".
  • any - Driving without MOT - what are the restrictions 22 Jun 2010 (Forum)
So what I want to know is, can I drive the car the 80 miles to my local MOT centre or is there a limit to the distance you travel?   Ta
  • KIA Rio (2005 - ) - Diesel driving tips 13 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I have just recently purchased a new Kia Rio Diesel (1.5l) and am very impressed with it. Since this is my first diesel engined car I would imagine that I am driving the car wrong (I.E driving it like a petrol car). My first tank full worked out at 46mpg and I expect this to increase as I get more used to the turbo (I am a bit heavy footed) and the car racks the miles up. 1st gear is very short but 2nd and 3rd gears are very nice and long.
  • Driving in the USA - continued 29 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Out here now and settled in, have the choice of a Ford Explorer or a Kia Sedona to drive. Not had any problems so far, driving is very easy here. Being able to turn right on a red light is brilliant. They have a much better drink-drive policy and I'm a big fan of the way they double penalties in road works if people are actually working there.
  • 118MPH Police Chief banned - 90days + £500 16 Jan 2008 (Forum)
He did not pleed guilty until last minute Had previously tried "other reasons" for being 48mph (65%) above the speed limit The former head of a police force driving school has been banned from driving after admitting speeding at 118mph on the M9 motorway near Falkirk. Paul Gee, 48, who recently retired from Durham Constabulary, had claimed he was carrying out a "risk assessment" for his force's driving school at the time.
  • Scary Driving 1 Jun 2006 (Forum)
The mind boggles at what would have happened if he had made it on to the main carriageway as virtually everything is driving at 50-60 mph and there is plenty of traffic joining off the M60 as well.
  • Worst new car on sale today... 16 Nov 2005 (Forum)
OK it had less that 1000 miles but on the basis of 100 miles of mixed motorway, A road and urban driving I would make the following comments: - No torque anywhere No room for left foot, except under clutch pedal Cheap interior fittings Bouncy! Ride Noisy - about 18mph per 1000 rpm in top so motorway driving and handsfree phoning a no no No lumbar support on seats No cubby holes for stuff The only thing going for it was the high driving position, so easier to get into and out from than the ten year old Fiesta I am currently driving (See other thread).
  • How to drive most economically? 23 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I've been driving since 1985 and am having a mid-life crisis regarding my driving style. What I'd value your opinions on is this: Is it more economical to accelerate slowly and gently, or accelerate more quickly (not in a boy-racer, tyre squealing style of course) to reach your desired speed?
  • 406, driving like clutch in half on ??? 6 Jul 2003 (Forum)
But I also noticed that isteast of the usual feel of the revs the car seemed to rev up as if I had still got the clutch in. So I am driving home, doing about 30mph in 4th and I decide to excellerate.... same thing, the car seems to get high revs before it finally starts to increase speeds. I remember teaching my wife to drive some years ago and the same effect was created by her not releasing the clutch quick enough when changing gear.
