  Been looking at the new Volvo S40 and V50. V50 I think looks nicer in some ways, but when you look at projected residuals the V50 is about 10% worse than the S40 at 3 years old. I always thought small saloons in the UK never sold that well and that Volvo estates (albeit the V50 is smaller than say a V70) sell like hot cakes.

  They are more easily damaged, and difficult to clean, so do we fit them purely for cosmetic reasons? Or are Volvo alloys (like everything else Volvo) twice as heavy as everyone else's?

  Judging by the amount of abuse I regulary get, I'm convinced that when driving around in my red volvo 340, other road users (especially white van man) think its being driven by a cloth capped old bloke and act accordingly. Do any of you fellow volvo 340 owners have the same problem?

Is there any tax I need to worry about or not? The tax calculator says I've got only £3000 until I'm in the higher tax bracket - which is why I'm wondering about this.

  I am looking at buying a new SUV type vehicle as more comfortable to enter and I like raised position. Looking at several different makes (Honda, Kia, Hyundai, BMW,Volvo etc,) it seems that unless you go for the basic model, there is rarely any option except to accept large often 18 or 19 inch wheels and skinny tyes. Thus less comfort than say 16 inch wheels and more risk of damage to tyre and wheel if hit a pothole.

  Just a note to the webmaster on HJ that the Volvo V40 2012 owners reviews have been somewhat skewed (to say the least) by the multiple additions of reviews of the same car by one person, namely V40MAN (entries for two variants within 1 day [almost certainly the same car - he probably didn't know the review doesn't appear straight away on the site so entered it several times] and multiple copies of each).

    i,m putting on the miles 20k plus a year , comfort an safety i,m more interested in rather than speed , has to be diesel ! i,m keen on the new volvo v60 , peugeot 508sw , citroen c5 ( new model ) an like the new saab 9-5 ! ( even if they go bust , saab )  looking to keep for 4-6 years minimum , 100-120k  don,t think the auris will take that kind of treatment an i hate the firm ride now .

  I have just purchased a high mileage , ex lease company  VOLVO S40 1.8 PETROL  2007 Model from a large motor trader in South Wales. The Dashboard Fault light showing the Transmission / Engine symbol has just came onto the dashboard screen. I have looked into the book and it say there is an Emission Fault with the vehicle and requires to be checked by the manufacturers main dealers.

  I have just purchased an old but reasonably well maintained 1.6i Volvo 440 SE. The mileage is now 54k which looks genuine. There are a lot of main dealer service stamps in the book but I can find no reference to the cambelt change. Can somebody tell me when it was/is due and how much it would be for a replacement at a good independent garage?
