  • Renault Clio - Handbrake loose - caused by 'repairs' garage 29 Jan 2016 (Forum)
The travel has increased - it used to stop around 5 clicks up but now it's around 9.  I can drive with it up on 6 clicks of the ratchet and if I hold on the clutch and go past biting point the car easily moves in 1st or reverse.  This all changed in just 6 days out of my view...   I had a crash where my handbrake was on and I was hit from behind.
  • Ford Mondeo - Idling / Revving Issues 9 Oct 2015 (Forum)
This hasn't made a lot of difference either. Does anyone else have any other ideas? It is a real pig to drive at the moment!! Cheers Nick
  • Chamfered speed "bumps" - worst design ever? 20 Sep 2015 (Forum)
These pesky inventions are appearing all over towns in Spain, often as a cheaper measure than fill-width humps. No doubt they enable buses and large emergency vehicles with wider axles to drive across them without impeding progress but for ordinary motorists they are a pain. Warning signs usually tell us to slow down to 30 or even 20 km/h on approach, but as the road speed is usually 50 before and after there is a lot of slowing down and speeding up, so brakes and suspension are subject to more wear and fuel is wasted.
  • Vauxhall Corsa - Car problems on day of purchase - refund owed? 17 Jul 2015 (Forum)
So my boyfriend bought a car yesterday, it seemed fine on the test drive a few days ago, was fine on the drive home but then on a shopping trip later the same day thev engine light came on and it didnt seem full power, after taking it to a garage they said the spark plug had gone, quick and cheap to fix however they said it had broke due to hot oil getting on it, they said something about an oil seal and replacing it would be around £800 (!!!
  • Which car to go for? 8 Jul 2015 (Forum)
We are a family of four (1 and 5 year old) and will be living near Gloucester but travelling to London at least once a fortnight. The car will also be used for the school run and commute. We have been driving a XC90, which we bought new and loved, but won't be bringing back to the UK. We can't decide which car to go for and whether to buy new or used. We are likely to be in the UK for 2-4 years before being posted overseas again.
  • VW Passat 2.0 TDI Sport - VW Passat 06 Injector Fault, no joy with VW, help! 22 May 2015 (Forum)
Has anyone had this problem successfully rectified at no or minimal cost to themselves?  I will never feel safe driving that car again.  I and others could have died.  I will also never buy VW again.
  • Ford Taurus - Owners Review 19 Apr 2015 (Forum)
The build quality I believe will be superficial, and after a few years the cracks will appear. Driving the Taurus is fine, it is heavy and feels very safe, but spirited handling is not a strong point, and the rocker switch to manually change gear in the sports mode is pointless, the switch is placed awkwardly on the gear selector.
  • Is this fair? 9 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I was informed by Admiral that because I am fully comp on my car I am able to drive another car 3rd party only. According to the policeman this doesnt apply to 'traders' policy. so he rang admiral and apparantly it doesnt apply - so he gave me 6 points for driving without a license and impounded my wifs car on the spot.
  • Ford Mondeo - Mondeo 2006 TDCI - over fueling? 8 Apr 2015 (Forum)
It takes a further 10 seconds for the engine to fully start, then dislplay lights disappear, and i can actually drive it.  Usually get white smoke upon starting.  And again, on acceleration i get the over-fueling.  Over fueling isnt consistent though.   Normally when the engine is warm, it drives really well.
  • Dogma 23 Mar 2015 (Forum)
When taking a driving test the examiner might fail the one being tested if they do something sensible.   Thus it is sometimes necessary to give the examiner what he/she wants to hear then forget the silly parts once the test is passed.
  • madza 6 2011 - Sumpstrainer failure, 19 Mar 2015 (Forum)
My exhaust started smoking, stopped driving, towed car to mechanics for assessment , result is that the car had a design fault, sumpstrainer blocked causing total engine failure.  The car was in mechanics in January for service.  This could not have been predicted.
  • Does it matter, really? 9 Mar 2015 (Forum)
However, to be honest, for example, any large estate or any large load lugger of a car ( we do a lot of trade exhibitions etc which involve shifting kit around the country and abroad ) would be just as useful in the cold light of day. Then of course you have the "hierarchical" issues, our reps drive Passats, Mondeos, Insignias, Golfs etc and they don't want the "boss" ( me ) downtrading on the car front in case it means they have to ( it wouldn't, but hey ) I like to have a car which is nice to drive of course but I'm not deluded into thinking that's always a function of how "premium" it's badge is.
  • Mondeo 2.0tdci engine starts no throt 7 Sep 2014 (Forum)
They have changed the alternator, run the diagnostice tests - which showed no faults and have now told me that there is a low presure reading on one of the injectors and I will have to have to have the cylinder head removed in order to check if that is the problem and I may even need a new engin! Given that the car drives fine once it gets going I cant see how this can be a mechanical fault - any ideas.
  • Mazda CX-5 - Mazda CX-5 - Petrol vs Diesel 2WD 6 Jul 2014 (Forum)
    - It won't do more that 10k miles per year - The car will cover more stop/start A-road driving than motorway (Motorwary will just be on family trips at weekends) One on hand the diesel has some nice grunt low down in the range so you're not changing gear all the time and the turbo gives you good power when you need it.
  • C220 CDi Sport Auto - Mercedes Benz Gearbox fault 12 Apr 2014 (Forum)
The car has 111500 miles and I purchased it two weeks ago from a garage.  Today after driving to my mums, the car was warmed up and I put my footdown on adual carriageway, first time Iv really had chance to do this.  The car picked up well and it was only when I approached some traffic lights I noticed a fault.
  • Jaguar XF 2009 - Jaguar Nightmare 11 Apr 2014 (Forum)
I had the car returned to me, after a week my wife could hear what seemed like a rattle coming from the engine, she also said it sounded a lot more noisy than before it had the work done. I rang Jaguar again and asked was it safe to drive the car to them or would they need to pick it up, they said no problem to drive. Received a phone call the next day he said "are you sitting down?" your car needs a new engine £6000, something wrong in cylinder 6.
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso - Dash warning drivers door is open and not locking 16 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Hi, I have a citroen xsara picasso 51 plate and today i've been having a couple of issues. It was fine first thing this morning, but after 20 minutes of driving there was a warning light on the dash saying the drivers door was open. I pulled over and tried opening and shutting the door, but it did nothing, so i put the drivers side window right down and back up again and that seemed to do the trick.
  • Ford C-MAX - New Grand C-Max 1.6TDCi - poor performance 13 Feb 2014 (Forum)
I see that some other owners of the new 1.6TDCi engined Fords have complained of similar issues. I'm wondering if this is just the way these new diesels drive due to the emissions regs, or if there is something wrong with the car. Anyone else experienced anything like it? I'm going to go back to the dealer today to express my concerns, and shall be contacting Ford to do the same.
  • Small automatic runabouts and rental cars 6 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Well no I wouldn't because of all sorts of reasons mainly related to feeling good about oneself when driving up to appointments, or into the car park of the (golf club/gym/church/synagogue)* delete as appropriate.  Were I to move to overseas where the most important factor is cost and air-conditioning I could seem myself in both but most likely the Splash.

Provisional drivers are only allowed to drive with a qualified driver in the car and are not allowed to drive on motorways. The driver will also be dealt with later for motoring offences including speeding, West Yorkshire Police's Road Policing Unit said.
