  • Don't want to write off car, other party liable. 15 Apr 2018 (Forum)
This was not work to get the car roadworthy since it was so already, but to get it into pristine condition and refresh everything. Driving it back from the garage I was hit in the rear while stationary by a white van who was driving inappropriately fast, he is the liable party and has signed a note to that effect, a soul destroying event, especially since we just spent so much money on it.
  • Ford Fiesta 1.4 2002 - New Serpentine Belt Now Fiesta Will Not Start 27 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Jump started it, went for a 20 minute drive to charge battery. Car drove as normal. No overheating issues or strange noises. Since then i have not been able to start the car using the battery which is 1 year old. However, it will start with a jump start from my partner's Fiesta with her engine running.
  • Suzuki SX4 - Suzuki SX4 - violent juddering/clunking in reverse 16 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Hopefully someone might have experienced the same thing, have ideas of what it might be or know a cheaper way to go about fixing it. My SX4 (not the 4 wheel drive) seems to have developed a fault.  It is just over 4 years old with a low mileage at 23,000 miles.  When reversing at full steering lock or close to it, the car seems under increasing stress before something gives way and it suddenly clunks and jolts.
  • 2006 1.6 FSi SE VW GOLF AUTO - Steering Wheel Vibration + Wheel play. 3 Jan 2018 (Forum)
The car is being taken to a mechanic soon anyways was just wondering if anyone else had any information. Also, I was looking at CV joints and Drive shafts and most were for manual tranmission.. is it different for an auto? Thanks guys.
  • Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI Elegance - skoda engine failure & appalling customer service 7 Dec 2017 (Forum)
The outcome is that Skoda have billed me £2500 pounds for a brand new engine, they have paid the same (50% goodwill).  Now the second bit, the customer service. Here things take a nose dive. I was driving up the M40 after getting the car back and there was terrible noise. Pulled in opened the bonnet and found they had left a wrench in the engine compartment, it was resting against a black drive belt.
  • Road design 24 May 2017 (Forum)
I hate there traffic calming cushions and slow down to below 20 mph and drive one wheel over them and one wheel on the original road surface.   Thus I've never broken a spring or worn out the inside shoulders of the tires.   But, there are other hazards. In Furness Vale there is a level crossing on a hill..
  • Any - Mazda 3 v Civic 1.8 v Auris 1.2T 22 May 2017 (Forum)
Narrowed choice down to 2014/15 petrol hatches of the following. Mazda 3 2.0 120bhp, Civic 1.8, Auris 1.2T. Won't consider VAG again, even though nice to drive. Simply don't trust the engineering in the long run. Will keep for 5 years or so.  Important to me are reliability, DIY friendly-ness, driving pleasure in terms of handling/feel etc. Top speed unimportant as never go above 75 to 80 mph but I do like a car that's responsive, with good steering and roadholding.
  • Volkswagen Polo IV - VW Polo 1.4 2006 juddering and engine light on 5 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Hi all Just purchased my first vehicle a 2006 VW Polo 1.4 with 58000 on the clock. Car is very neat and tidy and seems well maintained, nothing major in the SH. Driving it back to Leeds from Manchester (about 60 miles) and I noticed it was juddering in all gears but especially third and fourth in low- medium revs (stops after about 3.5/4k). Now, when I drive it for a more than a few minutes the engine light comes on solid amber and when idling it keeps nearly cutting out.
  • Hit by foreign lorry - how can I prove he's lying? 4 Feb 2017 (Forum)
I was hit by a left-hand drive lorry on the M25 near Clackett Lane. I was in lane 3 when he pulled out from lane 2 into the side of my car sending me spinning across the motorway and writing off the car. No one else stopped at the scene although a number of other drivers must have witnessed the incident as traffic was extremely heavy at the time.
  • Busted for No Business Insurance 4 Dec 2016 (Forum)
This doesn't ring true to me, as under EU law and now UK law, I'm pretty sure you are always insured to RTA requirements, even if you drink and drive, have bald tyres or are careless and so assume even if you didn't state it was for business... This seems to support this, but is very difficult to decipher, but it seems to say you always have third party RTA cover and the insurance company can't claim their costs from the insured.
  • Pug 307 2.0l 110bhp "01 - Hdi 2.0l not starting air in fuel lines 14 Nov 2016 (Forum)
It has been very cold recently and i have been running the car low on fuel. also a side note for the past week i have been driving to school with no alt just swapping batteries. I have now put a new alt in but due to this problem i cant drive her anywhere unfortunately. I cant spot anywhere under bonnet where theres any leaks tomorrow i will be spraying fairy liquid water on hoses to see. i havent checked hoses under car yet. when i pump the 'grenade' hand pump it will go hard and then slowly lose pressure and air bubbles will appear.
  • Vauxhall Zafira A - Idling Hesitation 12 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Once on the move it is absolutely fine and accelerates fine. It is most noticeable when at junctions whilst in 'drive' waiting to move again, where the car can be quite juddery. It does not really register on the rev counter though. I had to replace the rear silencer when I got the car as it was blowing a little and was vey rusty and worn compared to the other sections.
  • Toyota Corolla - Timing Belt Change 23 Jun 2016 (Forum)
The car has a valid MOT and from what I've seen of it there is nothing stopping it passing another one, so it's mechanically sound. It's a surprisingly lovely car to drive, no wandering on the road, makes all the right noises and drives better than the 2010 Peugeot 3008 it's replacing. The one thing letting everything down however is the timing belt which was last changed in 2005.
  • Alfa Romeo Brera - Apparent lack of brake brake assistance 15 May 2016 (Forum)
Car had just had an mot 3 days previous and passed with flying colours, but going by brakes operation I gave the car a wide berth , a very sad wide berth. Has anyone had experience of this? Is it part of being an Alfa? I am used to driving rice burners and french cars, was a virgin to Alfas. Needless to say salesman wasn't interest in me after my decision, not even to the extent of looking into the Brake issues Cheers for any info
  • Parking Charge Notice from Excel Parking - HELP! 28 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Last month I got a parking ticket for the day when my wipers went whilst I was out, in the rain. As I was driving I pulled over into the car park I was next to and they've given me a ticket. I appealed explaining why I was there, that it was a practically empty car park and that I didn't leave the car. I had my 10 month old daughter in the car, I barely managed to even drive in to the car park and the RAC were on their way so I wouldn't be long so I just didn't even think to pay and display.
  • Vauxhall vectra sri 2,2 04 - warning light on dash 19 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I have the engine electrics/transmission electrics light on my dash every time I start my car, which puts it in to limp mode. If I turn the ignition off and then on again it clears and the car drives Ok....ish. It can be a little sluggish in low gears. This has been going on for so long now it is driving me mad. Once the petrol in the car gets to around 30 miles left the light stops coming on, however as soon as I fill up again the light starts coming on again.
  • Mazda 323 - Mazda 323 P0421 11 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I got this changed to a new one and at the same time changed the spark plugs and cam belt. Around 150 miles later the engine warning light came on. The car still drives smooth and this time the code is P0421. A google indicates it could be the cat or a sensor, could someone confirm how I might be able to check which one? It's still driving very smoothly with no high idle or roughness at all. i hope it's the O2 sensor as obviously this is a much cheaper part and I've already put a fair bit into the car.
  • Hyundai i10 1.2 Premium (2 months in... 27 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Ideal for buzzing around MK and its environs. Lovely to look at and offers an extremely comfortable driving position - for someone who likes to think they're still 6' tall - i.e. bags of space above my head, but perhaps a little tight for any adults sitting in the rear? Very well spec'd in the Premium trim.

  • Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet - Loss of engine power 31 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I also wondered if I am within my rights to get the work done with a garage I know rather than use who they recommend (give the dealer the invoice) or whether that would affect my rights, also I feel unsafe to drive the vehicle so I wondered whether it's the dealers responsibility to pick up and drop off the car if i do use the garage they recommend to do the work? Thank you for your help
