  • Continuous insurance: Laws with claws 15 Jan 2010 (Ask HJ)
Yesterday I read an article in the press that caused me some concern and I wondered if you were aware of its immanent introduction. To quote “the new government...

  • BMW 1 Series - Faulty car - engine light issue 4 Mar 2023 (Forum)
      - Can I use the recording as evidence in court to proof the car is not as dealer described? - Garage suggests scrapping the car. Should I tow the car and storage it with extra cost or scrapping the car before legal procedure complete?
  • Audi S3 - Quality of HJ Q&A 27 May 2016 (Forum)
Many thanks, Andrew   and the answer: No, won't have caused damage. But this is the second time I have heard of an Audi dealer putting a car out on storage tyre pressures. This is actually very common but proves that the pre-delivery inspection was not carried out correctly so you should seek some acknowledgement of that from the Audi dealer. In the other case, the Audi owner received a replacement set of tyres FoC.
  • Land Rover announces new limited edition Defender 20 May 2014 (Forum)
Inside, the Bear Grylls Edition dispenses with the normal Defender’s seats and replaces them with four moss covered logs while the floor is constantly damp and covered in insects. Detail touches include a central storage compartment stocked with a mysterious bottle of hotel shampoo and what Land Rover terms ‘Bear’s Refreshment Centre’ which, on closer inspection, is actually a flask of ***s. The Grylls Edition features a bespoke sat-nav system in which all roads have been removed, encouraging the driver to reach their destination ‘as the indigenous peoples would have done’.
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso - Consider buying or walk away? 17 May 2013 (Forum)
AND although the car is dry everywhere else, we viewed it in the heavy rain today and the storage compartment behind the passengers seat is full of water.  The owner is asking the dealers about this on Friday and will get back to us.  Having Googled the water leakage it seems to be a common problem.
  • Ford Kuga (2008 - ) - Day out with a Kuga 24 Oct 2009 (Forum)
It drove and handled very well, good acceleration, 6 speed box, and very little body roll. Seats were comfortable, elbow movement obstructed slightly by a very large centre armrest/storage box. Excellent foot rest for clutch foot when cruising; good cruise control filled with small paddles on the steering wheel boss. Knew about the split rear tailgate but never found out how it worked.
  • My new Passat - first impressions 7 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Chrome looks impressive against the black. Interior ? very nice, roomy, well-finished, lots of thoughtful touches, plenty of storage space (esp for drinks!). The leather is not the best I?ve ever seen but is ok, and I?m looking forward to trying out the heated front seats when the weather gets a bit cooler. Good stereo ? easy to use and nice sound, powerful.
  • Touran 8 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Stereo is awesome, quick peek behind the speaker grill reveals a Blaupunkt premium component. Has so many cubby holes and storage areas that I shall loose tons of stuff. The third row of seats pop up and down with ease, but 7 seats means no spare wheel so I have a jar of goo and an electric pump. As far as build quality goes, well, fit and finish inside is as good as the goona (RIP), there is a rattle from the back I will get fixed.
  • Classics for everday use 23 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Virtually all parts are still available -- the Mussie has a vast following even today, and there's practically nothing I can't service or fix myself, except the auto trans,m and there are plenty of specialist for those. I maintain this car in storage and use it on visits to UK to avoid rental car costs. I have been offered many times more than I paid for it (bye-bye depreciation) and it will do 22 mpg under most circumstances (4.8 liter). Burns no oil between changes on a motor that has done well over 170,000 miles (no doubt becaiuse of being religiously maintained).

  • carburetted engines. MAYBE coked DI - DOT 3 Carb Cleaner 8 Apr 2016 (Forum)
    (e) Free (if you use used fluid) and almost free if you use unused fluid since it has a limited storage life once opened. (This assumes you change your own brake fluid) Doesn't repel mosquitos though frown. I suppose not many people have carbs on cars anymore so it isn't of much contemporary relevance ("Delayed Developments : Solving Yesterdays Problems, Today") except maybe for motorcycles.
  • Austin Mini Mayfair - When is a stolen car not a stolen car? 13 Jun 2013 (Forum)
[endif]--> I had a car stolen, because the Police are unable to ascertain who stole it they refuse to seize the vehicle and return it to me-despite them knowing where the vehicle is.   I had the car in storage in North Wales. In Feb 2011 I was contacted by the DVLA advising me someone in North Wales was trying to register the car. I told them I had not sold the car and not to allow anyone else to register it.
  • passat golf octavia fabia a4 focus - £4K estate dilemma 31 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I worry that the Fabia is more a super-mini estate and with the curvy tailgate on it it won't offer enough storage space. It looks like I can buy a much newer Focus for the same money - there are 2007 TDCis with around 80-90K on them. Much as a I love the VAG cars, I reckon I can pick up a newer Ford for the same money.
  • BMW 5 Series - Allianz Insurance wont pay out!! 16 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I asked what to do next and i was told to send in the V5, MOT etc.. which i have it all, i told Allianz that I was not the registered keeper on the V5 however i was the owner, Allianz bluntly told me that as i was not the registered keeper I would not have my claim met and i was to be liable for all storage and recovery costs of my vehicle. I immediately contacted the FSA and they took my side immediately and wrote them a letter. I paid for my insurance every month without fail, also i took it out through Budgetr Insurance and I wasnt asked about who was the Registered keeper, just who owned it. i have been nothing but honest and cooperative but yet they refuse to pay.
  • Hyundai i10 - Water ingress & warranty 20 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I had thought there was a bit of a smell in the car and this explains it. I then checked the boot - the boot carpet and plastic storage compartment underneath are bone dry but there was water underneath the plastic compartment; the padding on the base of the plastic compartment that rests on the wheel arch was soaked, there was water/condensation collected in the spare itself and there was about an inch or so of water pooled in the spare wheel well.
  • Renewable Energy and Cars. feeble renewable... 25 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Best bet, no wind and so on and gentle breezes i bet you would be lucky to get a constant 40 watts over a year. Contrast that with the house storage heaters drawing 9,000 watts through a winter night, that`s excluding the part heated by gas and without the 300 watt TV, kettle, lights, computers and so on. Not much spare capacity then to charge an electric car at night...
  • 5 weeks with a Benz A180 elegance 30 Oct 2001 (Forum)
the handelling on the narrow back lanes and single track roads or the welsh borders and hills was exemplary Inside storage space was amazing and the climate control AC was a boon on some of the Aug. like days I enjoyed. on the down side were the nasty orange door decals advertising the firm... the single lighter socket got a bit cramped with 3 things plugged into it and while shifting my hand would sometimes push the assembled plugs into the radio controles... the 3 headrests on the rear seat blocked most of the view of the inside mirror till I removed them after the first 10 miles.
