  • Fuel prices continue to surge as pound plummets 2 Nov 2016 (News)
It now costs £64.20 to fill an average-sized 55-litre petrol family hatchback, with a similar diesel car costing £65.25 per tank. The picture is bleaker for van drivers, with an 80-litre tank now costing a whopping £94.92 to fill from empty. While the increases will add woe to those who are striving to cut the cost of their daily drive there are some signs of improvement on the horizon. A barrel of Brent crude averaged just under $50 through the month but ended October at a one-month low of $46.63.
  • Barn find Jaguar E-type sells for £80,800 at auction 17 Oct 2016 (News)
That’s strong money for a restoration project. But the talk on the floor was of a car that was solid and that should be straightforward to re-commission while leaving the exterior and interior beautifully patinated. It wasn’t the only E-type project at the sale, however.

  • Stag hits trouble on TransAm rally 24 Jun 2015 (News)
Phil Garratt and Kieron Brown have led the pack in the V8-powered classic since the event started on 6 June, but it broke down in the Yellowstone National Park.  Believed to be the first Stag ever to take on an endurance rally, the car arrived in Idaho Falls on the back of a flatbed truck after the Triumph lost its transmission.  The news might not be all bad, though, we hear that a differential and seals are being shipped in from Arizona on an overnight service and that a garage in Idaho Falls where they 'work on old cars' has offered to help them put it all together.

These show that the car was laid up in 2006 – although we’re told it will be taken to a specialist for a cambelt change and be sold with a fresh MoT. You’ll notice, however, that it’s currently undergoing a registration plate transfer.
  • Goodwood Revival victory for future F1 star 15 Sep 2014 (News)

  • Motoring group urges fuel sellers to pass on savings 5 Jun 2014 (News)
AC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said: “Transparent, fair fuel pricing is vital for the economy and to maintain the trust of motorists.” “While two thirds of Britain’s 29m cars run on petrol we use twice as much diesel, around 26bn litres a year, which demonstrates how important it is to business through our 460,000 HGVs, 3.2m vans and all the diesel-powered company cars on the road which cover high mileages every year.” “In the last year retailers have been noticeably quicker to pass on reductions in the wholesale price to forecourts, but we are now seeing an unfortunate blip in that trend where diesel prices are higher than they really need to be.”   “There has been talk of the fuel retailers using higher diesel prices to keep petrol prices lower, but whether or not that’s the case, the simplest way to operate must be to make sure retail prices always reflect wholesale prices proportionately.
  • Heritage Motor Centre invests with lottery funding 1 Apr 2014 (News)
The award is the culmination of more than two years’ work to develop plans for a new building in which to store and display more than 200 historic British cars from the collections of both the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust and its partner the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust. The £4m project received initial support from HLF in 2011, and the latest HLF grant, together with match funding from Jaguar Land Rover, The Garfield Weston Foundation and both Trusts, will enable work on this project to begin in the spring of 2014. The new Museum Collection Centre will enable people to view many cars from the reserve collections of both Trusts for the first time in a purpose-built facility which will also include a vehicle restoration and conservation workshop and space for enhanced education and lifelong learning programmes.
