unreasonable insurance behaviour? 1 Apr 2005 (Forum)
They then sent an investigator last fri, who asssured me he was going to send his report straight to them on the saturday (he was happy everything was above board). Its now thurs, and for the second week running they have said they're awaiting my license details from the DVLA. Last week I was told they were waiting for it, only to recieve a letter the following day telling me I needed to talk to their investigator. -
BMW 5 Series as ugly as sin! 31 Mar 2005 (Forum)
It looks ugly with an usightly rear end, a whacky and stubby side profile with a cheap looking front end. The i Drive is confusing to say the least and my wife would have run a mile rather than try and use it...perhaps thats a good thing though... Mercedes must be rubbing their hands with glee (I just brought the E320 over the BMW5)as I just couldnt grow to love the 5 the way I do the beautifull lines of the new MB. -
Please help - I know nothing! 20 Mar 2005 (Forum)
The wife needs a new car, just for going around town really - and we are looking at buying a Toyota Corolla, as we have been told it is very reliable, and quite cheap to run. We have looked at a 5dr, 2000 X , 1.4 VVTi Corolla, in silver. It has Air Con, Electric windows, Power steering, ABS CD etc. It also has a full service history and has done 25,000 miles. It's beeing sold by a trader, and he will supposedly accept £3650 as his lowest offer. -
french flair vs japanese reliability 10 Mar 2005 (Forum)
The reliability statistics shows that Toyota beats Peugeot but with a 4 year old car with 70-80k miles, simply from a total running cost, which makes more sense? The Avensis seems well built if a little boring, the 306 not so well built and slightly interesting. Help! -
I Have a Question Volume 64 4 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Central heating side works perfectly but DHW is playing up.Sometimes tank gets hot, other times I have to switch the pump on and off until I hear a 'wooshing' noise and then the sound of water running throught the pipes. DHW then operates OK for couple of days. On my last trip into the loft I noticed the header tank was filled with hot water, so I obviously have a feedover. I've checked the 3port valve and actuator and they work OK and I've just used system cleaner and flushed out, but problem with DHW persists. -
Another Renault Clio starting problem 2 Feb 2005 (Forum)
When cold my clio (which is a 1998 S-reg 1.6 RXE) starts fine, but, if I drive somewhere then leave it for half an hour or so, when I come to restart, the engine starts, but idles at very low revs, almost stalling, and very shaky. It happened again today, and I let it run for about 5 minutes, didn't seem to get much better, but managed to drive back to work, at first it seems very reluctant to accelerate at it's usual rate, and then it suddenly kicked into action. -
Help - Rover 200 electrics 1 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Work fine on continuous, but again if turned off half way through sweep they dont return. 2) Blower speed on 1 and 2 does not work - 3 and 4 do but is like driving in a gale when trying to demist car. 1 hasnt worked for months and then driving along today 2 has broken as well 3) Strange misfire until car has warmed up. Seems like chugging and running on 3 cylinders (expect electrical but dont know where to start replacing things). As soon as normal operating temperature (about 1 mile) it goes away and engine purrs as usual. BTW car is 1997 214si with 101,000 miles. -
Fitting Intercooler to Pug 306 HDi 90 27 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I've just handed back a '03 plate Volvo V40 diesel with the 115bhp lump when I left the company. I am now running about in a Pug 306 HDi 90 that used to belong to SWMBO. It is great on the handling side, but I am missing the extra bhp. I have read on the forums that the tuning boxes that plug in to the common rail just over fuel and chuck out lots of smoke. -
Citroen C8 - lots of smoke! 8 Dec 2004 (Forum)
My wife bought a new Citroen C8 in September, everything was fine until 2 weeks ago when she noticed a large amount of smoke coming from the front wheel arches. I asked her about her journey that day, it was normal apart from some heavy jams on the school run (it was the morning that the A3 was shut after a fatality). The car was taken to the local Citroen dealer who performed a thorough inspection and could find nothing wrong with it. She's noticed a burning smell on a few occasions since. -
12.5K to spend! 28 Nov 2004 (Forum)
New would be good but up to a year old acceptable. No supercars (although I'd love a TVR I really couldn't bear the running costs. The best I have managed so far is a Nissan Primera 2.2 dCi SE 2005 spec with Sat Nav & cruise plus lots of other stuff on it as standard. It just dosn't seem right to put my hand in my poscket for that sort of dosh for a Nissan. -
which car - Six seats and flexible??? 10 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Our other car is a Freelander and I find that there isn't really enough space in the boot for the dogs on long journeys. Most of the time, however, the new car will just be used for school runs - so I don't want to buy something too huge and difficult to park. Things I've looked at so far include Citroen C8, Renault Grand Scenic and Landrover Discovery. Any bright ideas or views would be much appreciated. -
Rover Engine Judders 27 Oct 2004 (Forum)
At small throttle openings, the engine & car jerks forwards / back like a kangaroo start. For example, the engine could be on the over-run and you press the throttle slowly & gently to take up the drive & accelerate you would get maybe 3 seconds of 'kangaroo'. Sometimes I have to dip the clutch to break the cycle. Most noticable in lower gears, obviously. -
5 Series BMW No Start 22 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Turn the key to the start position and absolutely nothing happens - no clicks, no whirring noises, no dimming of lights. I sometimes have to turn the key 7/8 times before it will start and then no problem during the running. The symtoms occur with either key. BMW have interrogated the fault computer and found nothing. Tracer lights attached to the starter suggested that when a no start occured no volts were getting to the starter. -
Megane 1.4 1996 - no heat! 11 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Yesterday, my mind being focussed by the fact that the mercury is falling fast, I flushed out the cooling system (water and Wynn's system flush) and replaced the thermostat. Although the car now consistently runs warmer, and is obviously better for the work, still no heat. No apparent leaks from inside the car from the heater matrix. The heater return pipe is very hot, the two input pipes less so. I've bled the system thoroughly. -
Megane engine tapping. 7 Oct 2004 (Forum)
The job wasn't too problematic, and I spotted the headgasket problem very early, so I expected no knock-on problems with it. However, since I've started to run the engine since the repair the engine is sounding a little noisier than before. Sounds like some extra tapping sounds in time with the engine revs. I'm not sure whether it is just me being paranoid or there is something not quite right. -
m25/m11 roadworks 1 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Just returned from another Stansted Airport run and thought I'd warn any occasional M25/M11 users amongst you of the major roadworks which started there today and are due to last up to 10 weeks IIRC (judging by the one man, his dog and a garden rotivator set-up it could be longer however:() At around 7.30 this morning the situation north of the Dartford Tunnel was very slow indeed right up as far as jcn 27. -
Alfa 156 2.0 23 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Hi a mate of mine has a \'99 model 2.0 TS. Was running ok till today when the engine started making weird noises. I can\'t describe it too well as he is not so technical but to him it sounded like \"stones in the engine\" also he described like cachchh cachchh (I\'m not pulling the deleted. -
Mazda Premacy hot starting problem 20 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Our Premacy (1.8l petrol, 2000, 35,000 miles) has an intermittent hot starting / rough idle / power loss problem. It starts OK first thing (i.e. cold) but after warming up on a run and then stopping, it won't re-start (it just cranks over and doesn't catch). After waiting 10 mins it is OK again. the lumpy idle again occurs when warm and the sudden power loss (2 cylinders?) -
Citroen ZX 1.9TD Coolant leak (inside!) 5 Sep 2004 (Forum)
The reason I ask is that it looks like it might be time consuming to fix. The coolant leaks when the engine is running or not but I suspect that if I realeased the pressure from the rad it wouldn't continue? Any thoughts on this would be gratefully appreciated, along with any rough costs. Thanks in advance Paul -
Hi-mile Camry, a risk? 18 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Just shy of 100K miles, many of them apparently behind a gravel truck, so paint needed on the nose; obviously unloved: tobacco-smelly interior and grubby carpets despite the valet; a few light scratches to the flanks; electric aerial faulty (replacement is a £300 job). Main dealer service history runs out at 71K, that's a lot of miles without attention. Registered to a firm in Plymouth, obviously been used and used. I love my own 91 V6 Camry, but it's finally showing its age and must be replaced.
