Toyota Corolla and Verso (2002 - 2007) - 2002 1.8 driveshaft noise? 4 Dec 2010 (Forum)
If it is a drive shaft how can I tell which one it is? I don't want to replace both, at estimate £300 each, unless I have to. s -
Any - Tailgating 28 Nov 2010 (Forum)
The problem is that because people could drive faster just as safely there is a lot of tailgating on this stretch of road. The people doing this drive anything from a black cab to a flatbed lorry. Whilst many 100's of people have been fined for speeding I have not heard of anybody being done for tailgating which is potentially much more dangerous along that stretch of road. -

Peugeot 405 Diesel - Ticking noise 6 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Air con does not work but switch in or out makes no difference. What is the device under the rear of the N/S wing? this appears to be the source of the noise. Haynes doesn't help. The electrics are shot on this car as an "Auto electrician" attacked the car to stop the battery being flattened. I guess this may have been someone at a garage as I bought it with an MoT that it shouldn't really have passed. -
Which 3/4 year old 7 seater? 16 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I have owned a 2003 Chrysler Grand Voyager (from new) and a 1997 Renault Espace (current car). I am considering: 2006/2007 Renault Espace 2007 Ford S-Max 2007 Ford Galaxy I would like a car that has decent seats in the third row and not the flimsy ones you find in the Vauxhall Zafira. On the other hand I don't want a car as large as the Chrysler. -

1998 Renault Laguna weird steering 18 Jul 2010 (Forum)
I can't imagine that would even affect the steering geometry at all let alone enough to cause the type of pulling that I am encountering. Anybody had anything like this before? I was sure it was a broken spring/s but I can't see it. -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (2003) Hatchback - Third brake light (center) not working 10 May 2010 (Forum)
I recently noticed that my third brake light at the top center of the rear screen is not working, although the left and right brake lights work perfectly. What could the problem be? Firstly is the center brake light powered by globe(s) that can be replaced or LEDs? The manual provides instruction for replacing all globes except the center brake light, so I suspect that it may be LEDs that are supposed to last the life of the car. -

Are you a Motorway Man? 23 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I read with interest an article in the FT yesterday that said the general election may well be won by the changing vote of "motorway man" a shorthand marketing speak for people who live in constituencies in the Midlands and the North now with alot of infill new housing estates who drive alot, for work and for leisure, who take or use alot of carbon intensive resources to fly and move about.... http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/0283fcbe-06f5-11df-b058-00144feabdc0.html If so (and trying to keep this motoring related) it looks interesting. How is any government going to appeal to them when they're defined by their high consumption of something the government wants to cut back on - excessive car use and a car dependency culture plus one taking alot of flights... -
Most common tyre sizes 21 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I've been thinking about stunorthants26's thread on tyres, (http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=81968) and reflecting on the fact that Michelin apparently don't make any 155/65T13 tyres. Clearly, some tyre sizes are a lot more common than others, and if your car uses one of the more common sizes, then you are going to have more choice when you come to replace your tyres. -

Short Term Insurance for a Non-Resident 15 Dec 2009 (Forum)
m coming over to England to stay with my father, while my sister and family take a well-deserved break over Christmas and New Year and want to arrange temporary insurance for me to drive her car. The car is presently covered by her husband?s trade insurance but I cannot be added as I am not resident in the UK. Every site I?ve tried on the Internet is only for UK/ EU residents. Does anybody know of an insurance company that would arrange temporary insurance for a non UK/EU driver? -
`Big Cheese` tyre places, `Spanked` by internet? 8 Dec 2009 (Forum)
. ;) They had to pay fuel to send the van out to me and couldn`t put the usual `environmental disposal` on a bill, cos it was all inclusive including future free puncture repairs with the `Internet tyre Suppliers`. So what`s really the profit margin on these things and are large `tin palace` tyre fitters very much `the old business model`? -
Volkswagen Polo IV (2005 - 2009) - 07 1.4 Dipped headlight bulb change 1 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Hi, My mates o/s dipped headlamp bulb has blown and I've looked at how to replace it. As always nothing is that simple and the handbook just says take it to a dealer. Do I: 1.: Undo the single bolt on the bonnet platform and draw the whole headlamp forward to access the back of the healight. 2: Undo the Pump/ filter bracket (not exactly sure what it is) thats directly behind the back of the headlight. 3.: Undo the expansion bottle to access the back of the headlight. -

Insurance write off procedures 19 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Recently, my sons 98 Escort was sideswiped whilst parked, causing O/S panel damage to front wing and both doors and also fairly serious front suspension damage. At the time, the other driver didn't leave any details at the scene so we had to pay for the suspension repairs ourselves. -
Citroen ZX (1992 - 1998) - 98 1.9D ZX Diesel exhaust fumes when window open 1 Oct 2009 (Forum)
The engine runs beautifully and the temperature gauge shows engine operating at correct temperature. Whenever I open the window(s) at 30mph or more I get a strong smell of diesel exhaust fumes come into the cabin. I had an exhaust check done and it's fine (exhaust is quite new aswell.) My guess is that my bootlid seal could be faulty and opening the window could create a "vacuum" that draws in the 'swirl' of exhaust from the back of the car. -
Mazda Mazda 2 (2003 - 2007) - Tyre speed ratings 29 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Pirelli P Zero Nero 195/45 R16 V are the original fitment. The rears still have 7mm of tread. BlackCircles have the Yokohama S Drive at £ 58 fitted for each tyre - whereas the Pirelli's are around £ 80. However the speed rating on the Yokohamas is W. Would there be any problems having the W rated Yokohamas on the front whilst keeping the V rated Pirellis on the rear?? -
Passed on M40 18 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I had occasion to go to Oxford yesterday and on way back I was tootling along at 70 when a Ford 375 Consul passed me - now that was a shock as my old Zodiac never felt safe at that speed - it was the grubbiest one I have ever seen - painted matt black with painted on cat paw marks- the rear number plate was missing so not sure of year - anyway I had to pass it just for pride sake - then further on I passed a car towing a hot rod not in too good condition either - then getting close to Warwick turn I passed a nice looking pink 50's Buick - very low to ground (my type of car) - so anyone any idea what event these cars might have been to? -obviously Oxford or further south.
