  • Car advice needed please 18 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I'd like to get closer to the £10 but would rather not be in something as slow as the astra. I'm undecided about whether it's worth buying a diesel or not? I need something with air con, new as possible, no smaller than an escort, and I don't want to spend more than £2k Thanks in advance
  • Welding experts?? 10 May 2003 (Forum)
Very stupidly I pierced a tiny hole in SWMBO's Honda air con condenser by leaving a spark plug tool lying around. The local aircon specialists reluctantly agreed to get someone to have a go at resealing with a weld since the cost of replacement (if they can find a condenser)is probably as much as the car is worth.
  • Pug 306 Heater 2 hot... 28 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Whenever I have it on the windscreen it seems to have different temp settings to when in the cabin. This is the same whether I have the air con on or not, same with internal circulation or not. Does anyone have any ideas? It's been to the garage once, where there response was 'turn the heat down'!!! Any ideas, apart from the obvious that something is broke would be great....
  • nissan primera estate - insurance valuation for total loss 2 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Insurance company said if I could produce any evidence of a higher priced similar car for sale they would forward a cheque for the extra sum. Insurance companies are not known for generosity, so am I being conned?

  • Ford Focus - Squeaking noise above 30mph Ford Focus 16 May 2020 (Forum)
Recently, when driving over 30mph I experience a squeaking noise, quite slight (can be hidden by a low volume conversation in the car). It is not heard at low speeds below 30mph. Sounds like it is coming from front of car inside the air con or even in engine bay... I’ve had a general google search and all sorts of areas come up from brakes to belts. Anyone else experienced similar at a similar age of their Focus or Ford? I’m going to get it diagnosed next week but any pre thoughts very welcome!
  • Ford Focus 1.6 Ghia 2001 - Speed sensor again? 8 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I did notice the revs dropped to about 1k when stationary and slowly dropped to 800 or so. I had the fans on but on fan 2. The air con was not on. Any ideas?
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace (1998 - 2010) - 02 1.9D Fan swtich and fan not working 27 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Please can you help me I have recently purchased a new cooling fan switch which needs fitting on my Citroën Berlingo van 2002 1.9 D. Can you please tell me the location of the fan switch? It does not have air con. It overheats (the fan does not come on) and I want to check to see if the switch is working but I can't seem to locate it whereabouts. I have been to four Mechanics and they can?t seem to find it either I have also visited numerous web sites without any luck.
  • Peugeot 406 - Radiator fans not cutting in 2 Aug 2013 (Forum)
This isn't a solution I'm happy with as there's always the risk of forgetting to turn the fan off and then returning to the car to find a flat battery.  More recently the air con compressor has gone West but I don't think the 2 are connected. I'm reluctant to take the car to another garage as it's already cost £160.  Has anyone any suggestions (other than scrapping the car)?

  • Toyota Aygo (2005 - ) - Wet carpets - worth rejecting? 9 Apr 2010 (Forum)
She has complained for a few weeks that its windows are misting up a lot but I thought that was just the usual issue re using air con. But she now tells me her carpets are soaking, front and back. I have just googled and it would appear this is a major issue with Aygos and, as far as I can see, Toyota don't have a fix for it.
  • Volkswagen Sharan (1995 - 2009) - 01 1.9 Front Wheel juddering when acelerator appli 4 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Replaced very recently track rod ends and ball joints. Bearings on wheels are ok, wheels all balanced accurately this week . Replaced 1 air con pipe 12 to 18 months ago and another has now cracked not pitted through split. The juddering occurs when the accelerator is applied I believe there may be a problem possibly with 1) drive shaft/ drive shaft bearings, 2)Engine rubber mounts and bolts wearing/ breaking 3) suspension?.
  • KIA Cee'd (2007 - 2010) - On the verge of buying a ceed 4 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I have trawled the web and various forums and have found that there could be a number of issues out there such as weak air con, high levels of road noise (test driving tomorrow), rattles and creaks from the dashboard (a pet hate of mine) and dealers not honoring the 7 year warranty. I would like to ask the Backroomers their vierws on thism, and in particular if there are any ceed owners out there who can share their ownersihip experiences, particularly in relation to the 1.4.
  • Ford Galaxy (1995 - 2006) - 02 1.9 booster heating exhaust 14 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Thought it might be because of cold weather but now milder weather seems to have little effect. also when the internal blower is set at 1 or 2 the air con sign comes on. when blower moved to 3 it disappears. Noticed max white smoke tonight at traffic lights after about 10 miles - looked down and saw ac light on - is this linked ?. Otherwise car great.
  • Best new supermini for under £7000? 5 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Me and the wife are looking to trade in our 06 reg Hyundai Getz in the next month for another "supermini" on a PCP deal to save some money. I was wondering which cars out of this class are worth buying? (Air Con is a must, as well as a frugal engine) Let me give you some background on what I do, and what I need the car for. I'm Kitchen Manager for a local "Meals On Wheels" concern, so I do a lot of stop start driving, and I will need a big boot (as well as a strong clutch!)
  • 8 yr old Audi A6 valuation 4 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Small area of rust re-appearing by front wheel arch base, probably from previous bad repair ( 10p sized, we had it fixed before for about £150) Small ding with small paint crack on rear. ABS and hand brake warning lights come on for a second or two sometimes. Silver with air-con and electric sunroof. Anyone care to guess what it might fetch?
  • Mondeo TD odd noise 12 May 2006 (Forum)
The car was supposed to have had a cambelt and tensioner change as part of the deal when we bought it last year, but knowing this dealer, and having found other things that should have been picked up in their supposed 128 point "safety" inspection, I'm now not so sure. Noise is not affected by switching accessories such as the air-con on or off. I know it's difficult without hearing it, but any ideas? Cheers in advance DP
  • old top gear question.. 20 Nov 2005 (Forum)
The problem is I only saw the 1st half of the programme and didn't get to find out if he made the full journey? and for some reason its bothered me for ages! I remember him turning off all lights and air con and driving at 56 all the way to conserve fuel. Can somebody please enlighten me, if anybody remembers did he do it? nobody in work can remember the outcome?? Thanks Lee
  • Jazz - overpriced or good buy? 11 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I was hoping to go for a recent 2nd hand one but the high prices of those suggest you may as well get a new one, especially as I'm after the current '05 spec. The model I'm looking at is the 1.4 SE (air con a must) but they do seem rather pricey compared to other superminis. I've always avoided buying a brand new car due to the value you lose by just driving off the forecourt, however, the high residuals of this car seem to cushion the blow somewhat.
