Volvo XC60 - Tyre costs and speed rating 20 Nov 2024 (Forum)
Hi all, I had a tip-off that national were offering 20% discount on four new tyres or 10% on two, so I just had a look some Michelin crossclimate 2’s for my Volvo which are due a change. Mine are 235/55 R19 V-rated and £221.99 before discount (I am sure they were cheaper last month before the current discount) but the odd thing is, the same tyre when W-rated is £209.99. -
Volvo V40 cross country - To sell or keep 8 Aug 2021 (Forum)
I currently have a Volvo V40 CC that is in the garage being fixed after the service chucked up several issues (mostly brakes and suspension). It’s going to cost me a huge amount. It’s a 63 plate car with 109000 on the clock. -
Shock horror, EV is less 'efficient' than ICE car! 4 Jun 2021 (Forum)
Reading a road test in the May issue of Top Gear magazine, featuring the VW ID4, Ford Mustang Mach-E and Volvo XC40 Recharge. On the way to the road test location, the Volvo visited an Ionity charger. Doesn't say what the power available was, but working out how much the electricity cost, along with the Volvo's average efficiency of 2.7 miles per kWh, it was apparently the equivalent of an ICE car doing 21mpg!. -
Volvo v70 1.6d - V70 cutting out 2 Feb 2017 (Forum)
My Volvo V70 keeps cutting out and its getting slowly worse. Anyone any cheap home fixes to try before I bite the bullet and make an expensive visit to the garage. When you throttle up at a standard rate and it will get to 3000rpm-ish then go in to limp/low power mode with the engine warning light on. -
Volvo duett 1964 EPA A-Traktor - Importing or drive back 30 May 2016 (Forum)
Hi all im looking for some help and advice on how to buy a Volvo duett 1964 EPA A-Traktor in sweden and bring it back to the uk. Would like to drive back nice road trip. After lots of reading it looks like i would need to get a temp reg over there to take it out the country but not sure, as some say you cant buy a car there without a Personal Number and some say you do. so im a bit lost, and im not sure how it works for a Foreigner to buy a a car there and drive it straight out the country if its road legal or on a trailer?. -
Volvo V50(05) - Dipped zenon headlight not working 16 Dec 2014 (Forum)
I was thinking that the problem may be the main connector to car but my main beam works fine. Would be really grateful if anyone has any ideas before I have to take to Volvo dealer. I was thinking of buying a second hand headlamp but if problem is with mains connector to car that wouldn't work? Many thanks Rachel -
Volvo T5 V70 auto 2001 - Shudder 23 Nov 2012 (Forum)
New tyres all round, 4 wheel tracking (twice), suspension, track rod ends, drive shafts etc, etc. checked by Volvo Garage no faults, also no fault code when put on diagnostic. Engine management light showed sticking solenoid about six months BEFORE problem, transmission oil change fixed it. I've just fitted new spark plugs. -
Volvo V70, 2001, 125,000 miles - Intermittent starting problems 27 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Can anyone help me! My Volvo is occasionally cutting out after starting. This is an intermittent problem - sometimes when I turn the engine on, it runs for a second or two and then cuts out, then when I start it again, it either runs or just keeps turning over without starting. -
Volvo V70 - rear end shunt 11 Sep 2011 (Forum)
My Volvo V70 diesel was hit from behind in a traffic queue and although the bodywork is now fine there are several issues on which I would like opinions. The fuel flap was jammed solid and on release has just flapped around...aptly named. -
2002 Volvo V70 2.4 Petrol Manual 5 speed - Alloy Wheel Replacements 19 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Hi, A friend wishes to replace the badly kerbed alloys (Thor design) fitted with 225/45/17 pirelli tyres with genuine Volvo replacements (used) rather than have them refurbished.. I believe that these rims maybe 7.5J but the hand book in the car is of no real use to us to check this. We are having great difficulty in finding any sets in the size 7.5J x 17.There appears to be a more readily supply of 7J X 17 which I think should fit . -
Volvo XC90 - Seat belts on MoT 29 Aug 2010 (Forum)
I am confident the webbing is not so compromised as to prevent it from restraining folk in the event of a sudden stop or worse, but am mindful of the fact that their condition is not likely to pass unnoticed on an approaching MoT. The local Volvo dealership quotes £280 and £250 for an offside and nearside belt for the rear respectively, and breakers do not seem to have such parts available. Can anyone tell me specifically what would be tested in an MoT - for example, if my seats were not deployed, would the testers still fail the car on the condition of these rear belts? -
Mercedes c180 - Merc c180 or Volvo c30 26 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I seem to be able to replace the banger with a nice sports coupe - and am looking at a Merc c180 coupe or Volvo c30. I've seen a few c180's with 20k on the clock for 12k, and its not dissimilar on the c30. I've never had a merc, and have little idea about the running / servicing costs - did once have a smart car and it was expensive. -
Volvo S40/V40 (1996 - 2004) - 2001 1.8 engine won't start. Clicking noise heard. 8 Jan 2010 (Forum)

Volvo S80 (2006 - ) - honest john have you test driven a ! 22 Jul 2009 (Forum)
this is for honest john or anyone who has test drove the new volvo s80 (my10) today i have driven the new s80 2.0d se lux (my10) but when i was driving it a found a major problem ( i think its major) it felt like i was driving it with 4 flat tyres the handling was very bad. i pulled out to over take a car and it was all over the place. mainly over 60mph the slightest jolt on the streering wheel and it felt like i was snaking and lots of body roll. when i asked if it should drive like that i was told its the new supension set up. well all i can say is that if that is the case then i can see lots of buyers taking them back..... -
Volvo 480 (1987 - 1995) - Pranged it, now undrivable - What do I do next? 1 Jul 2009 (Forum)
A week before Christmas I unfortunately pranged my Volvo 480 which I brought a month earlier. To cut a long story short i smacked it against a brick wall, bending the lower suspension arm rendering it undrivable, not to mention a new bumper, indicator lense etc is needed for repair. -
Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 01 2.0 Heater blower running after car locked. 13 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Weirdness today. Went out to the Volvo after it had been parked for about 25 mins. Could hear a fan running which I thought was the rad fan, but on closer investigation turned out to be the heater blower. Unlocked the car, and sure enough, the fan was blowing away merrily. -
Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 2002 D5 Boot strut replacement: DIY job? 9 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Looking at it, it seems to me that it should be a simple job to replace - get new strut from parts specialist near my office, maybe a tap with a mallet to remove the unbroken end from its knob, then the same in reverse to push the new one into place. Is this so, or am I missing something terrible that's known only to Volvo main dealers? -
Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 04 2.4 D5 Oil pressure 27 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Drove about ten miles parked up for about 30 minutes came back to warm engine and started again, again about 1 second for the oil pressure light to go out. The car has covered less than 44k miles from new, been serviced by Volvo from new and since we bought it at 25k miles had oil changes every 6k miles - always using the recommended 5/30 fully synthetic oil. Is this the start of a sludging issue or should I start by looking at the oil pressure switch ? -
Volvo puts foot in it 9 May 2008 (Forum)
A German court has ruled car maker Volvo has to pay compensation to a man who claimed his feet were too big to use the accelerator on his new car. A judge said the car makers should have catered for Michael Herzog?s size 12 feet. The court ruled his feet were not abnormally large and the judge said the dealer should give the German five per cent off the price of his new car. -
Volvo 960 and S90 (1994 - 2000) - Motoring organisation car-check 15 Apr 2008 (Forum)
There's another thread on here about HPI checks but I think these are different. It would be interesting to hear the experiences of others. I bought privately a Volvo 960 Estate in 2000, 5 years old, 85,000 miles. Since it was in Suffolk, a 3 hour trip from me, I had the a well known motoring organisation check it for me. They missed: rear shocks on the way out, needed replacing within 6 months [forget the cost but not small]; chip on front windscreen sufficiently annoying to need replacing [£150, again from memory]; aircon leaking such that there was no cooling [£300 to fix].
