Focus TDCI 2002 - Ford TDCI - Guess what... cutting out! 18 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Not heard about this as a cause of cutting out before but it seems unlikely to be injectors or the usual culprits as it runs and accelerates well, economy as expected (46mpg avg on fairly demanding commute), clutch/dmf replaced last year.... I've taken it to the dealer and already given up because of the usual 60-100 quid charge for the privilege of them plugging their laptop in to it and telling you something that doesn't fix it and usually requires further outlay. -
Daewoo Lanos 1.4 8v - Fitting hydraulic lifters 12 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Did an oil & filter change using carlube 5-30w fully synth long life oil (on offer at wilko’s) but since then the ticking does not go away even after a good long run and increases with engine revs. Sounds like it’s coming from the right side of engine (No. 4 pot) so think it might be a hydraulic lifter. I’ve ordered some new and have got a tool to remove them without disturbing the camshaft or head but just wondering if there’s anything I need to do prior to fitting, like soak them in oil for a while or squeeze them in a vice? -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1998 1.25 over fueling 2 Aug 2011 (Forum)
hi i am an mot tester who has tested the 1.25 zetec fiesta today.i have come across an unusual emmisions fault.whilst ideling the car runs at around .30 co and 240 hydro carbons which is just outside limits.however at 3000 rpm the cars co level rises to a crazy 12 .08 and hydro carbons 2500 way over limits. the car obviously smokes like mad at this point with the over fueling.i then road tested the vehicle as it belongs to an elderly lady to see if it made any differnce.after an initial burst of heavy smoke the cars smoke level subsided. on my return to the garage however the second emmision test was exactly the same as the first. there are no fault codes shown on my eobd scanner.i am hoping someone has come across this fault.many thanks steve -
Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI 2005 - Very smokey under acceleration 30 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I got the injectors changed (€1000) but this did nothing for the smoke, although the engine did run a tad smoother. The EGR valve has been checked and cleaned and nothing else is showing on the the ECU fault register. Come MOT time I put £5 of petrol into the tank and the smoke temporarily disappears. -
Peugeot 306 hdi - Help with whistling noise 15 Jul 2011 (Forum)
If im driving and dip the clutch it will disapear but it doesnt sound like driveshafts or wheel bearings more like an airflow type problem It can be quite loud and very annoying. The car runs fine with no loss of power. The turbo seems fine. Im just wondering what possible causes there may be? I did have a leak on the inlet manifold a while ago but that was fixed. Any help will be appreciated to get rid of this. -
MOT Legality 2 Jul 2011 (Forum)
The whole idea of this, is to give you time to get any repair work done before your certificate runs out. This makes sense. HOWEVER, i've just been told by a council MOT place that if the car fails, the current certificate becomes immediately invalid, and your only allowed to drive the vehicle straight back home etc. -
Fed up with VAG cars 22 Jun 2011 (Forum)
And Skoda dealers now seem to be charging Audi prices for repairs. Should I consider Toyota or any other make - all I want a car thats cheap to run and built to last at least 200,000 miles without having to be rebuilt every 5 years. -
Peugoet 407 Coupe 2.7 V6 HDi - Peugeot 407 Coupe - Yes/No? 15 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Have seen a 3 year old 407 Coupe 2.7 V6 HDi Sport Auto for sale. Any comments on the reliability or running of this model and engine combo? Test drive seemed OK. Slightly lumpy tick over at cold but ran nicely once warmed up. Changes were smooth and no hesitation that I could find. Is coming upto 40000 miles so major things to look for at services soon? -
Volvo S80 2.5t Auto 2007 - Strange whining noise 8 Jun 2011 (Forum)
My S80 has done 37000 miles and runs well but about three weeks ago it started making a strange whining noise which seemed to be coming from the 6 speed auto gearbox. It was only noticeable up to about 40 MPH and seemed to occur in the lower gear ratios. -
Ford Focus - Ford Focus, Buy or Not to Buy Is The Question 29 May 2011 (Forum)
IT HAS 133,000 miles on the clock and that does scare me a bit. i know fords are reliable and "run forever" as my little 1.3 fiesta is still chugging away at 110,000 miles. is this car worth it. much apriciated :) Rich Scenic 00 plate 1.9 diesel - Scenic Sunroof stops 1cm before fully closed 3 May 2011 (Forum)
Being now 3/4 turn retarded, it should reach zero point as the sunroof shuts fully. or wouldn't that work ? Or is there a way to make it carry on running that last 3/4 turn, and reset the zero point ? -
Ford Escort 1.8 diesel - Diesel fuel tank vacuum 17 Apr 2011 (Forum)
In my last thread, it was suggested that the vent pipe mentioned in the Haynes manual was to allow air to vent outwards when filling with diesel. and that the red banded filler cap was vented to allow air in when running. (I would have thought that the first vent I mentioed would vent in either direction anyway. Any thoughts anyone on how/why the vacuum is being set up ? Many thanks................ebt -
Ford C-MAX 1.8 TDCi - TDCi clutch replacement & flywheel 6 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Is it necessary to get the flywheel replaced along with the clutch? I'm just wondering if it'd be safer in the long run to get the flywheel changed at the same time, just in case, despite the extra expense. -
Vauxhall Corsa C - Head gasket shot or not? 6 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Could it be that their were airlocks in the cooling system or do I need to take the car for a good run to get it up to temperature and pressure to see if the gasket IS shot? Thanks. -
97 peugeot 306 td - rebuilding cylinder head 31 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Hi, I've recently replaced the head gasket on my 306. Got it all rebuilt & running, but found I had an oil leak. Traced it back to the vacuum pump on the end of the cam. I hadn't replaced the seal on the oil feed from the head. However, while checking, I discovered that there was a metal ball bearing missing form the hole that feeds the vacuum pump with oil. -
Ford Mondeo III 1.8LX - Mondeo engine dies whenever I try to drive away 28 Mar 2011 (Forum)
It's a 2000 Mk3 1.8LX that's done about 100k miles. The battery was completely flat but the engine jump started quite easily. It seems to run fine, for a good 15mins or so at the most while not moving and the car can be crept forwards and backwards very slowly, but as soon as you try to drive it away there is a faint click and the engine dies. -
Uninsured driver 16 Mar 2011 (Forum)
He called me explaining what he had done and that the police wanted to remove the vehicle. I run out of the house as it was only round the corner and spoke with the police explaining that I was the registered keeper of the vehicle. I confirmed that he wasn’t insured on my policy and that I didn’t know that he had taken the car. -
Vauxhall Vectra 2001 (Y) DTI SRI 2.2 Diesel - EGR valve 5 Mar 2011 (Forum)

03 Ford Focus 1.8tdci Saloon - Ford Focus Saloon Dashboard - Failed 3 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Ford have told me that there is no way of reprogramming the new dash to show the actual mileage I have no idea what the mileage is as it's a digital display that's no longer working so I cant even record it for future use. Can this be right in this day and age when computers are practically running cars, surely things like this are stored somewhere. Also will I have to notify anyone about the fact that the mileage has gone back to zero. Thanks Ps Does anyone know if this may be one of the 'watchdog' ones that I've read about on the InternetChrysler Grand Voyager - 1999 grand voyager 2.5 se v reg 28 Feb 2011 (Forum)
