  • Which one. Subaru Legacy, Skoda Superb, or Signum? 23 Dec 2009 (Forum)
There are two of us and a dog but currently no little people (and therefore they are at least 9 months away). We have a month old i10 (excellent little car!) for the quick and simple local journeys. I don't want to spend more than £4-5k and would rather pay 4 as it gives 1 for work the car may need (or the holiday fund if nothing needed), but will not buy Ford, French or Fiat...

  • Jaguar X-Type 2.0d 157k - Random thoughts on driving an old car - and 'trust 9 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I am very grateful for the advice I have received here from those who know far more about cars than I do. I run a 2004 x-type, 157k miles.  I trust it to my local indy, always with the instruction 'do what do what needs doing, call me if the bill will be more than the car is worth'.
  • Hyundai i10 - i10 Courtesy Car 7 Mar 2022 (Forum)
Recently had our car in for service and was given a 22 reg 50 mile old Hyundai i10 N Line turbo as the courtesy car. Only did 20-30 miles or so in it, but some quick thoughts..... Noisy, too firm riding, not great driving position (not reach adjustment on steering wheel), difficult to get first to second gear change smooth.
  • Used car leasing 2 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I freely admit to knowing very little about leasing and PCP etc., but the 'Flexidrive' rental on 1 year old cars do look quite attractive. Has anyone got experience of these rental schemes? I assume that the renter will have to pay for RFL and standard servicing - but what about repairs? Since the car will go out of warranty during a 3 year rental, who picks up the tab if the engine goes pop or the car needs a new DMF?
  • Why does nobody look after their cars? 20 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Looking around for a new car lately, it occurred to me that, above 3 years old, hardly any cars have a full service record. How come this happens? Is the average car owner really this negligent? I'd have thought that putting a car in for service at least at the same time as the MOT is done would be a given, yet it seems not.
  • End of Life Vehicles 15 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Under new European rules it seems that in future only licensed dismantlers will be permitted to scrap old cars. At the moment, anyone can scrap a car. I have sometimes aquired a car as a source of spares, kept it for a few years (on SORN) gradually removing bits, then finally taken off anything remaining of possible use, and got a scrap man to remove the carcass.
  • VW MK5 - Hard to select gears? 27 Jun 2021 (Forum)
I have looked on top of the gearbox and the cable closest to the engine is very squeaky when going through the gears. I did try some WD40 on it but it didn't seem to do anything. The car is 12 years old but has only done 40k miles, anyone ever come across this before?
  • Garmin Nuvi 40 sat nav query 18 Aug 2020 (Forum)
I have a fairly old Garmin Nuvi 40 sat nav but it works fine and I am used to it so would like to keep it. I have just changed my car and the accessory socket is between the front seats although it has a couple of USB sockets at the front of the centre console.
