  • FIAT 500 - Fait 500 clutch problem 5 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Got the car back and drove it myself for most of the time until 3 weeks later having covered only 43 miles, the clutch failed again, AA took it back to the seller again who advised that the warranty insurer wouldn't pay for a second clutch but we'd no choice but pay for it to be replaced. My wife is now uncomfortable about driving the car and within a couple of weeks there was another cloud of smoke from under the bonnet accompanied by that distinctive brake/clutch burning smell. Neither my wife or I 'ride' the clutch, I've 40 years driving experience and have never had a clutch burn out in any of the cars, trucks or vans I've driven or owned.
  • VW Dear Honest John. I bought a 200 passat estate - Faulty Remote Locking 15 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I took the car for a test drive, but did not check the Infra Red remote locking. Driving home from buying the car i realised the remote locking was not working properly, needing 10 - 15 clicks to open or shut the doors , andvsometimes not working at all, nor were the electric windows working.
  • Ford Fiesta v VW Polo v Suzuki Swift v ?? - Help on what car to buy 6 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I drive a 1.2 08 plate Nissan Micra Acenta, great condition, 37,000 miles on it, done my research, seems to be worth at least £3200 and they said £2600. For anyone reading this who lives in central Scotland, you'll understand which dealership I was at given the monopoly they have in the area (!!).
  • Toyota Yaris - Puncture / spare wheel advice 25 Dec 2011 (Forum)
(I think the big boys are missing a trick here, open just a few branches on Boxing Day and you'd rake it in from people like me who have problems!) The spare on the Yaris is a skinny - would it be viable to drive to Shrewsbury (about 65 miles each way) and back on it? Would even driving one way be possible? The backup plan is to go tomorrow, stay overnight and get the tyre fixed on Tuesday but that means missing Christmas with the family.
  • Honda CR-V - Unidentified Noise on a 59 reg Honda Cr-V 31 Oct 2011 (Forum)
He's having it back in this week for more investigation but I'd like to know if the problem is unique to my vehicle or not. I have already had a test drive in a similar vehicle with 15000 miles on the clock which didn't have the noise. This was with the workshop manager in the car with me and he agreed there was definately a noise in my car which wasn't present in this one.
  • Nissan Primera P12 SE TD - Let down by my insurance company!! 18 Apr 2011 (Forum)
This situation has left me feeling rather bitter given I have two insurance policies with 9 years no claims on both demonstrating my integrity regarding false claims. An independant mechanic has found the camshaft to be snapped at the drive pully!! I believe that the car being hit in the rear hitting the tow bar that is connected directly to the chassis (bypassing crumple zones) has transmitted a shock load from the forced rotation of the front drive wheels to the transmission whilst connected to the engine in reverse gear.
  • Merc C200 24 Mar 2010 (Forum)
For those not familiar with these cars, to apply the brake there is a foot pedal on the transmission tunnel (right hand drive car) which is depressed to engage.  To disengage there is a handle to the right of the steering wheel. My first serious battle with this arrangement came while trying to turn in a very restricted end of a cul de sac on a steep hill.
  • Positive (only) aspects of UK motoring 16 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Massive efforts have been made to allow the motorist to be mobile - regulations, cameras regulating the speed of idiots - and allowing regular motorists to drive normally - and so on. The much maligned Heath And Safety - risk assessments - underpinning and enhancing our life experiences. I regularly see a Gent I knew around 10yrs ago. At that time he was driving a Landcruiser and was fit, young looking - and a decade younger than me.
  • Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - Mondeo IV 2.0TDCI - 20,000 mile report 3 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Engine is more punchy than the figures suggest and really does go well. Revs smoothly and is fairly quiet even when revved hard. After a week or so of driving it really doesn't feel as big as some road tests would have you believe. It's averaged a genuine, measured 42.5mpg (43.3 on the computer, which I have never reset), 70% driving in urban 30 / 40 limits and journeys under 10 miles, 30% motorway / A road trips.
  • SAAB - SAAB 93, good opportunity or bad idea? 4 Jun 2009 (Forum)
We tend to drive the cars until they die (my MD has a 51 plate V70 which is still going strong at 180k miles or so), but running costs are a consideration (one of the reasons why I changed my Volvo to a BMW when the Volvo was getting tired)
  • Honda - These older Hondas are so good! 15 Dec 2008 (Forum)
This car is so good! Firstly despite being 17 years old and having only last week just done 40,000 miles, it drives very well. Apart from a slight grind from the starter after the engine has caught, and that the overdrive on the gearbox is a little reluctant to engage as often as it should there is no evidence that the car is old.
  • Do you trust Dealer Franchises 23 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Over a period of weeks, the cars performance had steadily been getting worse until it got to the point where there was no boost and the car would not pull at all. I only noticed this because my wife usually drives the car but we had to drive to the airport to collect my daughter and I noticed straight away but my wife just said " I thought it was not driving right " Anyway, loath to take it to the dealer, a bit of detective work on the internet suggested that the fault would probably be a leaking vacuum pipe somewhere, leading to none operation of the turbo.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2000 1.8 Zetec, Intermit. Whirling/rattle gearbox 7 Apr 2008 (Forum)
They looked at it anyway and fixed a loose heatshield in case it was that but otherwise couldn't see anything wrong with it. 2 weeks ago I was driving along the motorway and it started again. I took it down to Kwik Fit (was actually already going in for two new tyres anyway) and got them to look at it and they couldn't see anything obvious but said it sounded like it was coming from the gearbox.
  • Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - (2003-) 1.6 TDCi 110 oil loss 26 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I'd really appreciate some urgent advice re. my father's C Max 1.6 TDCi 110 My father arrived at my house today after a 150 mile drive. A few hours later I went outside in the dark to move my car to the drive and noticed large amounts of engine oil over the front bumper and dripping onto the road. Alerted my father - he had no idea.
  • Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 02 plate 1.6 16v engine problems 14 Jan 2008 (Forum)
dont know if anyone has had this problem before or know what you can do about it. any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. my wife and i currently own a vauxhall zafira 02 plate 1.6 16v club. since we have had the car we have had nothing but problems with it especially in the engine department. the problems are that when the car is started first thing in the morning no problem. driving down the road short distances no problem. long distances start off ok but after about 40 miles or an hour of driving things start to go wrong. when you take your foot off the gas pedal or slowing down or trying to keep to a set speed the car starts to rev up and down jerk all over the place and if you take your foot off all together or stop at a junction the car stalls. this also happens when if after a short journey you start the car and drive it again. after several times of stalling and restarting leaving it for a while and trying again it finally seems to sort itself out untill the next time!
  • Mazda 6, what to watch out for? 13 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Do the clutch problems affect all versions of the 6? Any specific symptoms to watch out for when test-driving that will tell me whether the clutch is dodgy? Also, does anyone in the know have an idea of how common the 5th gear problems are, and whether I should avoid the 136 bhp version in favour of the 121 bhp?
  • Black box motor insurance faults 9 Nov 2005 (Forum)
The Government could be heading for a major jam over its plans to introduce motorway charges using satellite technology after it emerged that the system is not as reliable as first hoped. Norwich Union is currently piloting a pay-as-you-drive scheme where a driver's insurance premium is linked to road usage. But it admitted to the Sunday Telegraph on Friday that a 'significant number' of the 5,000 black boxes that have been fitted into policyholders cars to monitor driving habits have had to be replaced after technical problems.
  • Complicated Insurance Question 26 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Further complication is that second daughter is 17 next May, and is going to be chomping at the bit to learn to drive - insurance wont be due again until 1st September 2005, so this is likely to further complicate the matter. She will have professional lessons but will want to have time driving our car too before the insurance comes around again.
  • Japanese versus the rest. 21 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Everyone knows that they have an excellent reliability record, that they were renowned for copying other peoples designs and principles and making bland but efficient clones and were criticised for lacking that special quality that made the Italians and French special. (Apparently). So why don't the owners of Pug, Citroen and Vauxhall all drive Toyotas, Mazdas and Nissans? (Note I said owners rather than drivers - if your company is paying the bill I can quite see that you'll choose the one *you* want to drive rather than worry about the bills).
  • Not another..? 11 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Yesterday was the first day in a two-week inquest that will explore the relationship between age and the ability to drive safely. The jury of three men and two women is looking into the death of the 42-year-old mother of three on the night of April 4, 2000. Ms. Kidnie was out for her nightly walk and was crossing Bloor Street West at Markland Drive in Etobicoke on a green light when she was struck by a vehicle turning right.
