Ford Mondeo Ghia x 2.0L petrol - Clutch conversion (DMF to Solid) 28 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Hi to All, has anyone changed their clutch and used a solid flywheel instead of a DMF. If so does it make a lot of difference. Iam a very gentle driver and wont be towing anything. Gentle meaning no fast pull aways or racing. Will probably only be doing a maximum of about 10 000 miles a year. Have had a quote of £620.00 for complete change using DMF which I thought was very good after pricing up all the parts seperately. -
406 hdi 2003 - pug406 8 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Can anyone help>> had a new rad fitted 5 weeks ago due to other failing, since then the car has ran fine, until i tow the caravan??? the car then starts to overheat on any climbs jumping up to around 80 deg, we then turn the heater on and temp starts to drop. The vehicle is fine running around town and in standing traffic with the van on the back or not. its not losing any coolent and i've had it on tick over on the drive and have witnessed the fan dropping in and and out.. but i understand they have a 2 speed fan , is there anyway of checking that the speed 2 is working correctly?? -
what 4x4? and pinin advice 28 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I basically want a cheap 4x4 by the winter months for the bad weather and to go to the stables in my nicer, newer car is getting trashed going to the stables everyday. I do not intend to tow with it, I dont really want to spend more than £1k as it really will be a 2nd car. I have also looked at a mid 1990's disco but worried about costs on them -

Hi the fog and reversing lights stopped working, i have checked every fuse in the holder and they are ok. the bulbs, the loom on the rear door, (i have a reversing beacon that is wired in by the rear cluster and thats not working too). I'm now thinking it could be the reverse cut out switch for the fog lights? There is a tow bar fitted. the wierd thing is after checking things on a friday evening when nothing worked i tried saturday morning and the reverse lights came on for about a min while i checked it all worked properly, then stopped again. -
VW POLO 1.4 - action when EMS warning light displays 1 Jun 2011 (Forum)
If it is caused by a faulty part, why has it failed? What 's the next step? Can the car be driven to a garage or should it be towed in? Please advise. -
Mercedes-Benz C-Class W203 - Steering Lock gone and Turn Indicators/Alarm 8 Jan 2011 (Forum)
However the alarm IS on, though the light in the button does not flash after 30 seconds of being locked (but anti-tow alarm light/button does immediately on locking, as usual). What could this be due to? I've followed the manual to disable and re-enable both alarms. Seperately, a week or two ago, the rear screen demister elements stopped working - not sure if this is related. -
Nissan Micra 1.2 2005 - Power steering 17 Oct 2010 (Forum)
A few days ago my Nissan's PS light came on when I started it up and the steering was very heavy and I have been unable to drive it. I had it towed to my local garage and after investigating they are reporting that the Power steering pump has gone and needs replacing. This would be at a cost of £1300. new or possibly if they can get hold of one £350+VAT. -
Legacy or Passat - Estate car buying advice please - Subaru or VW? 11 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Hi All Could use some advice please.. Looking for an estate with the room to lug dogs around and to tow, once a week, a horse (laden weight is 1400kg on a braked trailer). Typcal journeys weekly are short but then every couple of months there is a 500 mile round trip (no trailer) to consider, good fuel economy is therefore key for us. -
Honda Accord Tourer - Changing ATF 10 May 2010 (Forum)
I wish to keep the car for as long as possible so am wondering if changing the ATF every 2 years is ok (my annual milage is circa 15,000). Also I tow a camping trailer (weight of 280 kg) to the west coast of France (from West Yorkshire) - is this an issue with an auto box ? Many thanks for your help. Matt -

our car broke down whilst the gf was using it , aa towed her home and said fault code p1336 was showing , hes pretty certain its a faulty coil pack , but after ive googled that code it seems to be crank cam sensor , i do have the chance of taking the coil pack off a peugeot and trying mine on it to see if the misfire etc carries on with that car , aa man said citroen / peugeout ciols packs are the same , any ideas if this sounds a good idea or do you think its more likely to be the crank cam sensor , thanks for reading -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.8 Massive oil leak after cambelt replacement 2 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Today I noticed oil on the driveway when I was returned home from a trip and when I looked under the car I could see oil dripping out fairly fast from at least three places. I will probably have to have it towed to the garage tomorrow as I don't want to risk driving it. Would there be a connection between the belt replacement and the leak- it just seems a bit of a coincidence that it has started so soon after the work was done. -

Easily done if you're not concentrating 19 Nov 2009 (Forum)
First car - a marked police Focus - turns on his blue lights and drives across the junction with the traffic lights still on red, and then disappears into the distance. Second car duly follows as if being towed, only to stop on the far side of the junction, presumably when the driver realised what had happened. Me? I admit I put the CC3 in gear to pull away too, but realised in time the lights were still on red. -
Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 02 1.8 Broken Cam Belt :0( 13 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hi everyone Well, its happened. Missus driving in Tesco car park, car cut out. Towed it home, took off cambelt covers, cranked engine, cam's remained stationary! I think the water pump has gone because it dripping coolant from the sump case! Absolutley gutted! Kept on top of the service schedule, had cam-belt, rollers and water pump replaced about 18 months ago. -
Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 04 1.6 bleeding fuel system 25 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I have primed the fuel filter and the filter has definately got diesel in it. After attempting to start it by towing it as the battery is now flat, there is pressure in the system if I release one of the pipes off the filter. I have released the injectors and there is a small amount of diesel present, but when turning the engine over no fuel is squirting out of the injectors. -
'98 Fiat Ducato rear wheel bearing play 23 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Hi, we've got a 1998 FWD Ducato long wheel base van. there's play in both rear bearings, probably around 2mm if you move the wheel back and forward (grabbing top and bottom of wheel whilst jacked up). Is this terminal and are new bearings needed or can they be adjusted? We need to tow a caravan 250 miles with it this weekend and I've only just noticed this problem. Should I get them replaced before we go or would the van be ok to use? As time is now short, I'm hoping for the 'leave them as they are', or 'adjust them route' btw no noise coming from the bearings themselves when driving as yet. -
Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 02 1.8 won't start 14 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Hi everyone! Wife was driving home yesterday when car lost all power and ground to a halt! Towed car home and now it won't start. The engine cranks but does not fire up. Checked the plugs were firing, checked cambelt was still ok, checked all fuses all ok, put a gallon of petrol in as the guage was showing a quarter full (just in case fuel guage was faulty!) -
Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - Flooded (d'oh!) 10 Feb 2009 (Forum)
My sister drove her Xsara (aka my old car) into 3 feet of flood water today. Engine running at tick over, sucked water in and now non-runner. RAC towed it out and it tries to crank a bit but won't turn over. Clearly water in one or more cylinders. I suspect this is almost certainly a destroyed engine, but has anyone ever heard of an engine recovering from hydrauliccing after the water's been drained out? -
Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 1995 1.4 Engine cuts out after a few miles 31 Oct 2008 (Forum)
If I take it for a run it is perfect for a few miles and then just cut out and just will not restart, it can be left for a few hours and then still refuses to start, I then have tow it back home and if I try to start it 9 times out of ten it starts immediately, I have changed the spark plugs and leads, can anybody help me.
