Setting records for age of fuel in the tank 28 Aug 2009 (Forum)
But it seems to me, there must be a trade off at some point between a drop or so of water that can be easily drained from the filter and derv that is continuing to deteriorate, with the risk of forming asphaltines that are large enough to start plugging the filter - IF the fuel in the tank is not emptied by use as much as possible before each refueling. I wonder how much of the water concern (microbes) arises from evidence in static storage tanks where there is not a constant circulation of fuel with a filter to separate it out? In other words, taking a stance where `condensation concerns` are paramount. How does that change over time? -
Volkswagen - excellent service from main dealer 16 Jun 2009 (Forum)
The car had also been well cleaned inside and out and was spotless. They even found a gold ring and one or two other bits and pieces and left them on the centre storage lid! I think the overall 'customer experience' was superb. Friendly, efficient and understated. Given the way main dealers get a bit of stick here (esp VW!) this goes some way to redress the balance. -
Car has vanished into thin air! 29 Jul 2007 (Forum)
and I'm worried that there's been some sort of admin error and the car is sitting in a yard racking up a massive storage charge. Anyone got any ideas? -
Bad diesel???? 24 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Is it likely that normally nobody else will pay such an extortionate price in France for diesel and this fuel has been sitting in storage for months? and become contaminated? Did anybody else stop at this service station and fill up from the same pump (First on rhs) on Monday at about 12.30? Long shot! The problem may resolve itself when I next fill up, but it wont be for another 300 miles to ensure the tank is almost empty. -
Renault Safrane 2.2 What to do? 11 Apr 2003 (Forum)
A short and unsuccessful attempt at legal action occurred and the situation is now this: I owe the garage 600 quid for work on the car + storage. However to get rid of it the Garage will dispose of the car for me leaving us quits for £160 + Towing Costs. The car is in theory worth 1800 quid in good running order. I have since bought a new car. -
I'm after a cheap and reliable car to run pop-ups from - what do you suggest? 6 Dec 2024 (Ask HJ)

Anything with petrol in it - Carb Gasketry 21 Mar 2023 (Forum)
I have some Permatex RTV silicone, but I'm not putting that anywhere near a carb ever again (been there, done that, had reason to regret it). It'll have gone off in storage anyway, always does (Incidentally, doesn't the bead on the sump flange in this Permatex video , about 2 mins in, look like a gasket disaster in the making? Unless the intention is to silicone treat the inside of the oil pump) https://www.youtube.com/watch? -
Ford Galaxy - Winter Tyres 14 Aug 2017 (Forum)
So bearing in mind the lack of snow in the U.K. and the amount of rain we have, I really do wonder if having winter tyres is safer or not. Add in the cost of a second set of wheels and hassle of storage and changing over not to mention the increased wear, are they of any real benefit? Does anyone have any real life experience or thoughts based on facts? I do live in Yorkshire on a steep hill but now have an awd vehicle. -
first impressions of my new Volvo XC60 D4 Auto 19 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Collision Avoidance works up to 17mph so you don't mow down people in car parks, over that it's up to you! Seats are very comfortable and there is lots of storage. The rear seats folded flat for when I collected some gardening supplies and the remotely operated tailgate is a godsend when carrying things. All in all a very positive experience so far. I shall update from time to time as the ownership and mileage progresses. -

Ford Focus Ghia 1.6 2006 - Check Engine Light and Alarm 30 Dec 2011 (Forum)
It seems like the car is in a factory mode where the alarm is automatically disabled after a period to prevent false alarms and discharged battery during transort and storage. I sure I can get this fixed relatively easily by a ford dealer but if anyone knows a home fix please advise. -
Economical family car c£2k 3 proper back seats 13 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I love being higher up on the road, and ugly cars don't bother me. A tow bar would be helpful for the odd occasion we need storage. I don't want to drive a big car for the odd time we go on holiday. I would love to find one about £2k but could go to £5k for the right car. I have no preference for makes/models whatsoever, please suggest anything. -
Very costly phone call. 11 May 2007 (Forum)
ADDED: 4/05/2007 9:54 A man caught using his mobile phone while driving not only received three penalty points and a £60 fine, but had to endure watching his £60,000 Mercedes sports car being towed off to a storage compound. Checks carried out by officers who pulled over the driver on Queen's Road in Clifton revealed that the driver only had a provisional UK licence and no insurance. He also already had nine penalty points on his licence, meaning the three added for his latest offence would mean it being revoked. -
The reason for high insurance premiums 1 Feb 2006 (Forum)
At the repairer, someone will take time to inspect the car and probably take a couple of hours to come to the same conclusion that took me 5 minutes. No doubt an engineer from the third party insurance will then pay a visit to the garage to assess for himself.Cost unknown but not cheap I suspect. All this time the repairer will now be charging a storage fee which will probably be at least £50 per day. Add on the various expenses of the accident management companies involved and it is easy to see how a claim like this just rockets out of all proportion to the cost of the car. -
BMW 5-Series E61 Touring (2004 - ) - 520d SE - 12,000m report 12 Jun 2009 (Forum)
It will store 20,000 track details, but I have found it prefers MP3 to WMA format. However, it is fiddly to get to on the move, as it mounted on the inner side of the centre storage compartment. * Storage pack in boot: side net, webbing, extra underboot storage, bag hooks all very useful and makes the most of boot space * Hi-fi loudspeaker upgrade: better quality sound than standard but doesn't really compare to the Volvo * Interior lights package: not really worth having * Sliding armrest * Auto dimming folding mirrors - very good in tight car parks etc: the passenger side has an auto-dipping feature in reverse. -
