  • Beetle- Bad Buy? 20 May 2005 (Forum)
Is there a particular code to look for in the VIN? Should I only accept Original UK cars? I presume it would say on the V5 if it is an import/registered as new in the UK after import within 6 months of Manu? I also read in the cbc that a load of Beetles were dumped in the UK market without A/C, is it good to avoid cars without A/C? And finally can I please ask if there are any other common faults that I should check for ?
  • MX 5 10 Jul 2001 (Forum)
now that more trade-ins will be about as people go for Mk III? Is a new MX 5 financial maddness? Can I get a new Import to full UK spec - would it have to be a european rather than Japan Import? The ABS and airbags of a newer model will be a reassurance, but I prefered the lively feel of the small tyred original to the over tyred, grippy but not very adjustable feel of the Mk II we drove..... but then it's not going to be my car.
  • Toyota gearboxes are rubbish ! 4 Oct 2024 (Forum)
To make matters worse, the parts prices are very expensive; this apparently even applies to 'UK' build Toyota's, as these parts are all Japanese imports. Even VW's have cheaper gearbox bits - a bit of a surprise ! What is surprising is that this isn't well known outside of the trade - Toyota's score well in various customer surveys. Anyone here any experiences ?
  • Ford Mustang questions 20 Dec 2023 (Forum)
Hello, I am writing an article about the Ford Mustang and would be grateful if you could give me some help by answering any or all of these questions. When was the first Mustang imported in to the UK?  What is the appeal of the Ford Mustang to UK buyers? How easy is it owning and running a Ford Mustang? If you are thinking of going in to Mustang ownership, which would be a good entry level Mustang to own?

  • Insurance Policy Details 24 Sep 2021 (Forum)
Hi all Had a bump at the local supermarket carpark. Details aren't important. Neither of us was admitting liability. So we exchanged details and I said we would leave it up to the Insurance companies to sort out. All reasonably polite. Couple of days passed and i logged into my Insurance company to get my details to pass on to the other party and there was a claim logged against my policy.
  • Car with Good MPG 17 Oct 2020 (Forum)
I have been thinking of Fiesta 2009/10 1.6 tdci non DPF or a Megane 1.5 dci 2011(unsure about dpf).  For me after MPG, reliability and holding as much value is most important.  Advice would be great.  Thanks
  • Honda HRV upgrade the Infotainment system 5 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Hi Doing alittle research on a new Urban SUV. One contender is the HR-V One little niggling issue (and its not hugely important) is the fact the Infortainment system lacks Apple carplay on all the older revisions EXCEPT for the 2020 model which has finally included it. Simple question, does anyone know if I were to buy say an older 2017 or 2018 car is it possible to upgrade the Infortainment system to the 2020 version that does?

  • Honda jazz - Honda Jazz 60 plate 57000 or 58 plate 29000 13 Feb 2017 (Forum)

  • Nissan Sunny 1989 N13 - Temp & fuel gauge temperamental 27 Mar 2015 (Forum)
I've had the clocks out and the connections all look okay, but with a car of this era those are probably the two most important guages :)   Really don't want to have to replace the clocks entirely, has anybody any experience of this? Is there some form of regulator in the clock itself.   Cheers.
  • Jaguar XF - suitable for a small island with no motorways 11 Nov 2014 (Forum)
The car has a dpf  and he hasn't had any trouble  with it and he doesn't do much motorway miles but he loves the car and wants to take it with him as it will be cheaper  to import  than buy out there. Do you think this car is suitable the type of driving on this island witch doesn't have many if any fast roads?
  • Ford Galaxy - An 8 year old high mileage MPV 11 Jan 2013 (Forum)
The ones I've seen advertised have high mileages around 150,000.  I'll be converting it into a camper & heading off into europe so reliability is important. ANything I should be aware of, if the engine's knackered how much is a rebuild? Would I be better off picking up an older (say 2001) Galaxy for a £1000 and then using the money saved to get it up to standard?
  • What 1.6 diesel to buy? 6 Dec 2012 (Forum)
I do 500/600 miles a week and a 2010-2012 five door hatchback diesel fits my needs. What's in important to me in reliability, fuel ecomony, looks and high spec. Budget would be around £14000-$15000 I would like to hear peoples opinions on what type of hatchbacks are out there. I'm not considering VW, Audi, BMW, SAAB, ALFA.

  • Ford Crown Victoria - why are new US cars so pricey? 6 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Yes yes I know you have to pay shipping, VAT and the work to get it approved for our roads, but importing firms seem to do the sums and add an extra zero.  Is it worth going over and sorting it myself?  I want a Ford Crown Victoria.  In black please.   Thanking you.
  • A diesel Electric powered car?.......... 24 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I've been looking into importing a range of electric cars and retrospectively fitting them with a diesel powered charging system to give the range currently expected of our petrol/diesel powered cars. In principle it would give much further range and low CO2 output.
  • smooth riding family car 4 Nov 2010 (Forum)

  • Nissan Almera (1995 - 2000) - 1.6 best place to find an ABS Sensor 20 Jan 2010 (Forum)
The other suggestion I've had is a 2nd hand hub, but there is no guarantee that the Sensor is OK in there. Could anyone please advise? Was there not a member of this Back Room who imported Nissan parts (Aprilia IIRC)?
  • Jeep Patriot (2007 - ) - 09 2.0d Front Tow Ball 1 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Would it be a simple matter to fit a tow ball on the front of the Patriot in order to make moving trailers in restricted areas a little easier ? I might also like to fit a 12V winch. Which ever new vehicle that I buy, it is important to me that moving trailers in confined spaces and retrieving boats from water, usully a slipway, is within the vehicle's capability.
