Skoda Superb Estate II 2.0L TDi - 2015 - DSG 6 Speed Semi Automatic - Clutch Wear & Replace 4 Feb 2020 (Forum)
I have quite a few manual clutch changes under my belt, transverse and inline but have never done a semi automatic. So a few questions: Should I change the DMF as well as its a pretty pricey part and I cant here any knocking or bumps when gear changing so assume the shocks are good? Are there any gotchas or things to be aware of, like software / calibration updates to an ECM? -
Automatic petrol with a bit of panache and flair 28 Aug 2017 (Forum)
I do about 5-6000 miles a year and irregular journeys of about 15 miles there and back to work place three days a week. A diesel will just not cut it. I would like a petrol engined car, an automatic, with a bit of pizzazz. There is just nothing out there on the forecourts. I am willing to spend £10kish and no-one is running up to me to take my cash. Been at 5/6 nationwide dealers - Skoda, VW, Ford, Peugeot, Mazda - they all searched their databases and came up with over 700 diesels that fitted the bill and about 10 petrols....a Skoda, a BMW 3 series estate, and I forget the other ones. -
MPV for up to £5,500.00 - what do you recommend? 29 Jun 2017 (Forum)
Whilst it isn't an absolute dealbreaker, therefore, I would prefer another automatic if possible. Thanks -
vauxhall corsa D - Corsa D 1.4 Automatic Gearbox Issues? 13 Mar 2014 (Forum)
My mother bought a Corsa 1.4 2009 about a year ago, it is a 1.4 automatic which I believe is a 4 speed. The car has around 15K miles on it but the gearbox has issues. Sometimes the gearbox will just not move out of the Park position. It has been to a dealer whom suggested she give it more time for the electronics to do their stuff before putting into Drive. -
DSG Transmissions 8 Jun 2013 (Forum)
BUT - stories of DSG issues abound, initially VAG dry clutch designs replaced by wet clutch designs for higher torque applications - but now issues with wet clutch DSGs - Ford Powershift has had complaints from drivers, in at least one case with Ford buying the car back. Now I've used traditional automatics for half of my 4 decades of driving and always laughed at the doomsters who warn that repair costs are so much higher than conventional manual gearboxes - yes they are higher but both types fail so rarely that no-one repairs gearboxes, manual or automatic, on ordinary cars these days so the cost difference is academic. -
What licence should I have? 1 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Now the letter i received on the revoking of my licence clearly states that i had to repass my test for a catergory i already held on my licence (obviously passing in a manual first time round, I was entitled to drive an automatic so i was of of the opinion that i hade fulfilled this). Are the DVLA correct in awarding me a automatic licence? because in my opinion i've passed another test in a catergory on my original licence as they asked me to do? -
Exeos Vs Skoda - Automatics CVT Vs DSG 19 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I have been looking at alternatives for a "nearly new" company car.. It needs to be a 2litre diesel with automatic gearbox, a good reliable runner and reasonably fuel efficient. After visiting several dealers, I'm coming down on either a Skoda Octavia with DSG or a Seat Exeo with their CVT transmission which fall neatly into my price range of around £16-£18k. -
Beware hiring an "automatic" car. 2 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I booked an automatic car for our holiday. I chose an Auris, out of interest, which happened to have an automated manual box. It did not have the conventional P on the quadrant. Instead you had to select R or a drive position on the quadrant else it was in neutral. -
Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 02 2.0L VAS 50/51 can cancel the automatic window 7 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I have a VW Passat 2002 (B5.5), 2.0L, 85kW automatic. I had to replace the Yaw rate sender (G202), and people here adviced me to try only to clean the connectors. This is what i did, for now. Ths scanning also show that the driver's door latch need to be replaced (I had some problems with locking the drivers door). -

Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 06 1.9CDTi automatic gearbox - jerky changes. 13 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I have a Vectra Design (April 2006) 1.9 CDTI (!50PS) automatic saloon. After 24.5K miles the gearbox started to make "jerky" changes when changing down when up to working temperature. This only happened when under load and from 6th to 5th or 5th to 4th, but not on the overrun, i.e. changing down under braking, or when just slowing down. -

Why no dashboard gear display in manuals? 11 Nov 2008 (Forum)
In most automatics, you can see in which gear you are in dashboard displays. But I've not seen such display in any manual cars! What's the reason?
