  The former is for pre-1966 under 2.0-litre cars and features Alfa Romeo GTAs, BMW TiSAs, Lotus Cortinas and hordes of giant-killing Mini Coopers. The latter is from a more recent era, putting the spotlight on the high-tech tourers from the 1990s when saloon car racing reached its peak. Adding some American thunder to the bill, the Big Engined Touring Cars also make a comeback.

  The car, which went under the hammer at the Classic Car Auction’s sale over the August Bank Holiday, had covered just 741 miles and had just one registered owner since new. While 1965 Morris Mini Moke, which starred in cult TV series The Prisoner, sold for £13,750 including premium at the CCA weekend event, held at Laverstoke Park Farm, Hampshire More than 70 per cent of the cars on offer were sold for a total sales value of more than £900,000 with £25,000 going directly to BBC Children in Need.

  £100m classic car collection seeks new home 16 May 2014 (News)
  James Hull, owner of Britain's largest, privately-owned collection of cars, is in search of a new home for his 457 British classics, estimated to be worth £100m. The collection includes a Mini Traveller owned by the late Lord Mountbatten, which was offered to a young Prince Charles; a Bentley formerly owned by Elton John; Keith Floyd's 'woodie' Traveller; a Humber belonging to the judge presiding over the Profumo Affair; and a 1961 E-type Jaguar owned by Britain's world motor cycle champion Mike Hailwood, complete with a Donnington medal.

  .  BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce, teamed up with the clubs to put on a 20-car strong display that included delights as diverse as the original BMW-Dixi, BMW M1, and the new i8 hybrid supercar. Ford's Coupe and Cabiolet display served up some unusual items, such as an odd hump-backed Fiesta, while Maserati's centenary was marked extensively - not only in the Zagato exhibition, but also with Maserati's collection, that included the 300S Birdcage, Khamsin and the new Ghibli saloon.

  .   Race Retro's live stage has become legendary and Russell Brookes will be rolling back the years with stints behind the wheel of the Sunbeam Talbot and Opel Manta. There’ll also be guest appearances from Rauno Aaltonen’s Mini Cooper and the ex-Alister McRae Hyundai F2 Coupe. Rally driver Peter Clarke and co-driver Phil Boland will make their Race Retro debuts. Peter won 1978 British Group 1 rally championship in a RS2000 that will be on display at the show as well as driving the Escort Mk1 with Tony Mason that crashed out of the 1971 RAC Rally resulting in Mason sitting on the roof of the Escort in the lake.

  UK new car sales top two million in 2012 7 Jan 2013 (News)
  The best-selling car in the UK was the Ford Fiesta , which retains the top spot that it's occupied since 2009, and it's indicative of the move towards greener small cars. In 2012, the average CO2 figure across the 2,044,609 cars sold was 133g/km, and growth in the mini car and supermini sector was 54.2 and 5.6 per cent respectively. Diesel-powered cars took 50.8 per cent of the market (up from 50.6 per cent in 2011), and private sales took a larger proportion of the market in 2012 (45.5 per cent) compared with 2011 (42.4 per cent).

  Highlights of the inaugural sale include a magnificent 1930 Bentley 4.5 litre Vanden Plas Tourer, with a truly vivid history and estimated value of up to £775,000, a rare Aston Martin DB2/4 Drophead Coupé which will be returning to its roots to be sold, 55 years after it was originally registered by the Brooklands Aston Martin dealer, and a pristine 1968 Mini Cooper ‘S’ with just 21,500 miles on the clock. In all, some 65 classic and collector cars, many with an intriguing story to tell, their ages spanning seven decades and with a wide range of estimated values, together with fascinating automobilia, will all go under the hammer in front of potential suitors on June 2.
