USED CAR SALES FALL APRIL - JUNE 2009 27 Aug 2009 (News)
The biggest increases compared with Q1 2009 were at the higher end of the market, with the specialist sports segment up 19.5 per cent and the luxury segment up 7.0 per cent. Fuel Q2 2008 to Q2 2009 saw the biggest increase in used diesel car sales since 2005. Although hybrid and electric cars continued to see sales rise, the increases were not as significant as in previous years. -

Electric classics ‘must not be considered historic vehicles’ says FIVA 21 Oct 2019 (News)
Electrifcation allows owners to retain the classic appearance of the vehicle while meeting modern environmental standards, allowing them access to low-emission zones and reducing their carbon footprint. There are also additional benefits such as increased performance and improved fuel economy. But FIVA - which is dedicated to the preservation, protection and promotion of historic vehicles - says electrifying a classic doesn’t comply with its definition of a historic vehicle, nor does it support the goal of preserving historic vehicles and their related culture. -
Landmark Jaguar E-type heads to auction 2 May 2018 (News)
The Jaguar was given a full re-trim in tan leather and repaint in Carmen Red later in its current ownership, along with a new fuel tank and a full stainless-steel exhaust. Today, the car has only been used only occasionally for classic car runs and shows. -

Another Virage, this time a four-speed automatic from 1991 with 43,422 miles. Under the bonnet, the same 5,340cc quad cam V8 with Weber electronic fuel injection developing 330HP. The car comes with air conditioning, electric heated front and rear seats and an MoT to January 2019. It is estimated at £42,000 to £48,000. Around 170 cars entered including twenty Porsche 911s, a hot-rodded Smart Roadster Coupe, a resto-rodded 1960 FIAT 500 Nuova cabrio, a 39,000 mile 1995 Toyota Landcruiser 4.2VX and a restored 1975 VW Type 182 Trekker. -

Recent work includes a new fuel tank, cam and timing belts, replacement water pump, a rear brake re-fresh, plus new calipers up front. No 1980s Vauxhall truly escapes the tinworm and this car is no exception. Despite being looked after, it needed new sills and rear wheelarches. -

Owned by a long line of known collectors and fastidious keepers, the DB6 has been routinely serviced and meticulously maintained, including an engine out refresh, engine bay rewiring and tidying, engine decarbonisation and unleaded fuel conversion, as well as a new clutch and flywheel, all carried out by Aston Engineering over the past 17 years. With an unwarranted 36,924 miles on the clock, it will be offered at a sale estimate of £325,000 to £375,000 as part of the sale, which takes place at Silverstone race circuit in Northamptonshire. Nick Whale, managing director at Silverstone Auctions, says, ‘This stunning DB6 is possibly the best factory Mk2 Vantage a buyer can find. -

It was the third most congested country in Europe after Russia and Turkey. The total cost of congestion is calculated from direct costs, relating to fuel and time wasted, plus indirect costs relating to business fees from company vehicles idling in traffic, which are passed on to household bills through higher prices. Unsurprisingly, London remains the UK's most congested city, ranking second in Europe, with drivers spending an average of 13 per cent of their total drive time stuck in traffic. Drivers in London pay almost double the national figure, with £1911 each, and spend an average of 73 hours per year in gridlock. -

We’re told that all the electrics work (lights, indicators, radio, fans, wipers). Only the horn didn’t work so that’s been re-routed and is on a separate button under the dash. -

The top of the range model will use the F-Types 380PS supercharged V6 while at the other end of the spectrum the 2.0-litre diesel will offer 180PS and low CO2 emissions (129g/km) and decent fuel economy (57.7mpg). There will also be a 3.0-litre diesel with 700Nm of torque. Based on the F-type, the F-Pace should offer excellent ride and handling thanks to the double wishbone front suspension and integral link rear suspension. -

Alfa celebrates 65th anniversary of F1 championship win 14 May 2015 (News)
It evolved from its original 195hp output to nearly 300hp by the time it took the Silverstone racetrack – not bad from a supercharged, eight-cylinder, 1,479cc inline engine. Uninhibited by fuel or weight limits, the 158 evolved into the equally dominant 159, with a new two-stage supercharger and numerous other improvements, for the 1951 season. Producing up to 450hp in test trim and 425hp in race specification, it powered Fangio and Alfa Romeo to a second consecutive championship, at which point Alfa Romeo officially retired from racing to concentrate production of its road cars of the time. -

Volvo Starts Production of New Four Cylinder Engines 13 May 2013 (News)
The new, smaller engines are optimised and deliver higher performance than today's six-cylinder units, while offering lower fuel consumption than the current generation of four-cylinder units. VEA consists of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. Together with driveline electrification, VEA replaces the previous eight engine architectures on three different platforms.
