DPF - Does all new vehicles come with it now? 26 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I am now thinking of my next car. I would like to try a diesel now but they all come with a DPF. I know that DPF tends to be very problematic and the repair costs are high. This might not cover the fuel savings made by driving a diesel vehicle. I do not cover that many miles per annum (7k), my driving is mixed (50/50, urban and motorway). -
VaG PD diesels - why are only some noisy 20 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Has anyone got any theories as to why there is such a difference in external noisyness (at tickover) of the good old VaG 1.9 & 2.0 PD diesels. Some seem to be 'common-rail' quiet whilst other seem quite clattery. Having owned 2 cars with this engine and observed many others I can't figure it out. Is it fuel, hard driving, soft driving or just out and out mileage that quietens them ? -

diesel petrol mpg 10 Apr 2005 (Forum)
mmm, makes me think, i was basing my calcs on 81.9 ppl for diesel a year and 4 months ago. which was 81.9 so 4000 miles in a diesel doing 50mpg was only costing £295.00. so in a year its costing me an extra £25 a month for fuel. (well not me, my company.) also over a year this is £2280. if you can buy a petrol for £2K cheaper than a diesel, whats the point ?????????????????????????? -
Diesel Cars - Easier to drive v petrol 12 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Are you less likely to stall Diesel cars such as the Yaris D4d, VW, PDi's etc than similar petrol cars? Because they have more Torque, or is diesel harder to stall by the nature of the fuel system. A lot of diesel cars I have been in will allow you to lift the clutch with no use of the gas pedal, whereas some petrol cars kangaroo or stall even if you give them some gas. -

Real World Fuel Economy figures 30 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Hello All, Does anyone know of a website that provides actual real world fuel economy figures? - probably submitted by users (this website is very useful for the cars that have been test driven - but they don't include all models as it would probably take up too much time :-) ). -
Am I asking the impossible? 16 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I'm toying with the idea of changing my car yet again. I like fast cars, but a new house means that I have to be a bit more frugal with the fuel expenses. So..... Is there such a thing as a car that has good fuel economy and great performance. By good fuel economy I mean over 40mpg on a run and 30ish around town. By great performance I mean at least 150BHP Other considerations to consider are - it must cost around 6K, have 5 doors and be "family sized" (Mondeo/Passat size) I'm thinking diesel, but which one? -
Astra 1.7TD - Faulty Fuel Pump? 9 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I have problems when accelerating over 70mph, driving with a load, or with less than 1/4 tank of diesel. Car hesitates, looses power and goes into limp mode. Occasionally ECU light comes on but no fault codes are showing. Local dealer changed the MAF but problem is still there. I think it may be the fuel pump as my MPG is also getting worse. -
Ford Focus 2.0 tdci 2006 - Car fumes inside cabin 2 Apr 2013 (Forum)
It was basically so bad it was not drivable....sore eyes, dry nose and throat, dizziness and headaches. First garage changed the fuel filter and recycling valve which was clogged and stuck open. This didn't solve anything and to be fair they thought there was still an issue with fuel injectors. Tests at another garage indicated fuel injectors leaking and all 4 replaced at some cost. -
Ford Focus Saloon 1.8 TDCI 56 - Loss of Power following Fuel Filter Change 8 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Hi hope someone can help, i'm having problems with our Focus after servicing last week. Followed haynes guide for changing Fuel Filter ( Or so i thought) removed connectors etc replaced filter etc reconnected etc nothing. Then realised the Haynes book mentions right at the end system needs to be reprimed. After googling found refilling filter with diesel helps tried this, fired after a couple of attempts then dies again. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - Fuel error 13 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Well yes I have been a bit of a numpty, but will a load of stuff on my mind today I (for teh 1st time ever!) started to fill up with BP unleaded rather than Diesel. After about 5 litres I suddenly realised the mistake. I paid for the fuel and asked a slightly bewildered what I should do. He said people in the past had done this and what they did was fill up to the brim in Diesel and then keep it topped up for a while. -
Focus CMAX Fuel Consumption 5 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Has anyone else come across this? Is it likely to be the cat? I've heard that this type of diesel doesn't have a cat but I'm not sure if this is true or not. Thanks for any info anyone can give me! Ben -
FIAT Panda diesel - Performance and consumption 17 Dec 2012 (Forum)
The odd thing is, the 106 was bigger, heavier, had an old generation mechanically controlled indirect injection diesel, and was pretty much worn out (which is why we changed it). It wasn't a fluke, it was the second 106 diesel we had and the first was equally economical. The Panda seems to run ok, no warning lights stay on, it just seems a bit of a poor show that with all its computer controlled engine management, an inherently more efficient direct injection diesel is using more fuel to haul around less weight more slowly. -
DIY Cleaning Diesel Injectors 1 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Hi, I have a Diesel Astra Isuzu engine-done 130K and its a bit lumpy and smokey on start up and I was told to put redex diesel in the tank to clean out the injectors but it hasnt made any diff. So as the car isnt worth enough to justify getting them cleaned professionally, I was told to pour Redex directly into the Fuel filter and start/turn over the engine to clean out the injectors....I know this sounds crude but as a DIY method is it worth doing/would it damage the engine? -
