Mazda 6 - Fuel pump causing problems 12 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Can anyone shed any light on my problem.. Well I have a Mazda 6, 2.0 litre turbo diesel and I accidently and very stupidly put in £5 of petrol as soon as i realised I thought it wouldn't cause much of a problem if I just filled up with diesel (which later proved to be a huge mistake). -
Bad diesel???? 24 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Unusual because it was always willing to pull well when running at 80 mph earlier in the day. Questions are: Does the premium fuel have anything that could cause this? (unlikely). Is it likely that normally nobody else will pay such an extortionate price in France for diesel and this fuel has been sitting in storage for months? -
Why diesels are better..... 22 Jan 2010 (Forum)
A snippet from an article I just read about diesels: "Diesel engines function differently from petrol engines. They do not have complicated electronic fuel ignition systems. This eliminates the potential for failure, and improves reliability, reducing associated repair costs." -
End of the road for Diesels ? 26 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Are all diesel engines manufactured like this now or is it just Pugs? If the economy is being eroded and the cost of having additive topped up is quite expensive, does this mean its the end of the road for diesel cars? -
2011 SEAT ALTEA XL SE CR TDI ESTATE - Seat Altea XL fuel pump needs replacing at 27K 13 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I took the car in for a service as I had done just shy of 10K miles, its now on appx 27K. I was quite shocked to find out that the diesel fuel pump needs to be replaced at a cost of appx £1200, with the part costing £722. I looked up the part and it is very expensive. http://www.commonraildiesels.com/product_info.php/seat-alteaxl-tdi-new-bosch-diesel-fuel-pump-0445010507-p-1543 My question is can I go back to the delear to contact the manufacturer of the component part because surely this should not fault at such a low mileage. -
Toyota RAV4 - Fuel contamination; how common is it? 30 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Initally I feared that a return of my engine repair woes had resurfaced (see here http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=101494), but after turning the interior of my car blue I realised I had just put 30 litres of diesel in the car not more than 5 minutes / 2 miles earlier. I drove straight home (another mile and a half) and wonder what your thoughts are on; The likelyhood of contaminated fuel (receipt confirms 28.39 litres of diesel) It being linked to the previous engine issue (none of the previous signs and symptoms present) It being ompletely unrelated and I'm barking up the wrong trees :-) My dilema is now what to do in the morning. -
Any - Fuelish nonsense 10 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Diesel: Megane 1.5 DCI Measured Cetane number Wheel hp fuel economy BP low sulphur 54.0 73.3 44.1 BP Ultimate 54.8 72.7 44.0 So the Super diesel performed 'worse' than the standard one (probably due to variability of the dyno). -

Used diesels 1 Jun 2021 (Forum)
Had he stuck with a simple petrol version he would’ve spent a couple of hundred quid a year extra on fuel but saved a large four figure sum on repairs. Moral of the story, stick with petrol when buying a cheap used car. -
Kia Sorento 2.5 diesel 2006 Auto. 70,000 miles. - Black smoke & slight loss of power on acceleration 29 Nov 2013 (Forum)
It does not happen when the car is driven from cold and also will not happen while the vehicle is stationary (revving it) I realise thatv there was an issue with "delaminating fuel tanks" but I thought this only happend with the earlier models (this is a 2006). Can somebody explain how this can affect the injectors? Could this be a problm with the actual injectors or a fuel pressure problem? -
Audi A4 B6 (2001 - 2005) - 03 2.5tdiPetrol in diesel - not started 25 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hello all, today my wife filled her 2003 Audi 2.5tdi to the brim in Petrol (62lts worth). she only noticed when she came to put the nozzle back on the pump and found Mr Diesel was still home !. Luckily she did NOT start the car....... however inorder to push the car out of way the ignition had to be put on to free up the steering wheel and put the car in N (it is an automatic) I HOPE and pray that a full tanke drain should do the trick.. because the car had not actually run out of fuel am I right in assuming that techincally no Petrol should have made it to the Injector pump?.. -
Has Fuel Changed? 7 Nov 2008 (Forum)
My wife's Mondeo 2.0 Zetec has done exactly the same, it has dropped from 37 MPG to 34 MPG. Very odd as nothing else has changed apart from the price of fuel. No change to our journey patterns, no change to type of petrol or diesel used, or where we buy the fuel, yet both cars are using more fuel. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1994 1.9D Leaking Fuel From Throttle Shaft 10 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Hi all, I have recently found a fuel leak from the throttle shaft of my Lucas (yeah I know they're bad) diesel fuel injector pump. The throttle shaft moves up and down slightly if you pull and push it. I am guessing what ever was originally sealing it is not any more, and the idle speed of the engine changes when it is pulled or pushed. -
Any - Tesco diesel probe: Branksome filling station stay 26 Sep 2014 (Forum)
A Tesco filling station whose customers reported engine problems after they bought diesel is to remain closed. A number of vehicles broke down shortly after filling up at the station in Branksome, Poole, Dorset, on 18 September. The forecourt has been dug up and the supermarket is carrying out "further research" after tests on the fuel were inconclusive.
