Trip to Koblenz or Bayeux 27 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Is Belgium cheaper? I could fill up on passing through on the return, or top off on the way out. It`s five years or so since we last went in that direction. Still not sure whether to run down to Bayeux instead.... -
Ford Cougar v6 - air con and noise 2 Apr 2010 (Forum)
hi all, just filled up a/con with gas at kwik fit, but air still no cooler so did'nt have to pay, but they did say your pump is working as it is going in and out (whatever that meens) there is a fast ticking sound from the engine on tick over and low revs but when you put your foot down a bit, you cannot hear it, the sound comes from the o/s around the belt area and only lasts for 30 secs or so, on and off, could this be the same problem.............any ideas what i can try? thank you -
Best - `bread and butter` petrol engine under 1.2 21 Jan 2010 (Forum)
OK let`s set some parameters. Assuming bought new (under £10,000) and considered over a 15yr life-span. Defining `best` 1) Servicing costs - to 150,000 miles and 15yrs 2) Known issues and likely repair costs 3) DIY - difficult, or easy. -
Mitsubishi Galant (1997 - 2003) - Swapping a car. 16 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Does anybody know if there would be any dealers out there who would do a straight swap on s car?? I own a Mitsubishi Galant 2.5V6 24v Auto Estate. I need something more fuel friendly! I have no money to buy another car. I do a 50 mile round trip to work and back daily in a car that does an average of 28mpg!! -
Chassis drivers 2 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Most impressive were the modern type of bus with the engine at the rear but I also remember ' half cab ' Leylands and Bristols. Do they still do it, or is everything moved by transporter ?...I imagine H & S might have stopped the activity. Ted -
Rust. 30 Dec 2009 (Forum)
The flipping jacking point had disappeared up inside the bodywork somewhere, and the car was slowly descending. Drat and double drat. The last time I saw such was when the N/S jacking point on an old Morris - a tubular affair with a rubber bung in the end to (try and) keep the muck out of it - actually fell off when a wheel was being changed. -
Why no AWD saloon models from BMW and M-B? 1 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Why don't BMW and M-B bring the 4wd versions of their saloons/estates to the UK? In other parts of the world there are E Class, S Class, 3 and 5 series with 4wd, but not here. Is it that the cars would be too expensive for the market, LHD/RHD integration problems or not wanting to cannibalise sales of X3,X5 and ML? Perhaps it's all of those and factors and more, anyone have a more definite idea? -

Terios or Jimny 25 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I'm looking for a s/h small 4x4 or standard car with very good ground clearance - the speedbumps have cracked my exhaust once too often. I like the look of either the Daihatsu Terios or the Suzuki Jimny as they are both cutish, high, but small enough not to incur too much ire from those against 4x4s. -
Renault Laguna II (2001 - 2007) - 01 1.8 How long to fit cambelt? 7 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Guys, Just bought a s/hand 1.8 Laguna II and I've no idea when the cambelt was last changed so feel I really should get it replaced now. I will get my local indie to do but I've no idea how long it should take. Anybody know what is a reasonable time? -
Interesting looking road in last weeks Top Gear 16 Jul 2009 (Forum)
In last week episode during the royal mail piece, I think after the Scottish border was a disused road, behind the road they were driving, it was on screen for less than a second and am wondering where it is. I?m stuck without real internet (typing on a phone :S) for a couple of days so I can?t provide a time, quite fancy a jolly on the bike on Friday, thought I might go for a closer look. Cheers Boris -
Mindless idiot causes criminal damage to 4x4s 30 May 2009 (Forum)
http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/s/1115117_prope_into_attacks_on_4_x4s I cannot beleve how thick these people are. I am not a fan of these cars in the cities, they are too big and they cause a safey to threat but environmentaly I am not sure they are anyway worse than any other car in real terms. -
Ferrari driver pulled over for driving too slowly 17 May 2009 (Forum)
d seen it all when he was pulled over by a high-ranking policeman ? for going too slowly! Denis Evans, of Southerndown, was at the wheel of his wife?s £150,000 red sports car at 7.45am when he was stopped by Assistant Chief Constable Nick Croft. Mr Evans was doing a leisurely 25mph near the Pelican pub in Ogmore-by-Sea ? a 40mph zone ? when he saw the unmarked Audi saloon behind him with flashing blue lights. -
Stations with auto cut-off fuel pumps. 6 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I can see on most of the nozzle hand pieces that there is still the little catch that engages with the trigger but they seem to have been disabled. Unfortunately I have developed osteoarthritis (I'm in my early 40's) in my hands and I'm finding it increasingly painful and difficult to maintain my grip on the trigger while I fill up, on some slow pumps this can take up to 10 minutes. -
Shaped Registration plates 10 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Although the lettering is correct size and spaced correctly and the plate inc makers details, kite mark, it seems that only the regulation oblong or square plates are legal. Off the top of my head, some of the S type Jags I have seen have had a plate shaped to fit the plate mounting area on the back, ie sort of oval. Looks like these style of plates are relegated to show plates only now. -

Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 01 1.7D Replacing diff. bearings 22 Feb 2009 (Forum)
t=71745 yorkiebar was right (unfortunately). The play is all in the diff, at both ends (shame I didn't spot that in the N/S before!). So, my question now is, will the 'box have to come out, or can the situation be saved in situ (I'm assuming the 'access plate' under the diff. allows you to do something)? Many thanks. -
What's the point of driving a quick car slowly? 23 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Just venting my frustration here but left work today and got stuck behind an Aston Martin. Yes, stuck. I couldn't keep up in the 30's (since it was doing a steady 45ish) and then when we got to derestricted roads we managed a steady 40 but braked at the merest hint of any curve, whether we needed to or not. Any overtaking opportunities were thwarted by oncoming traffic. -
Chrysler - FIAT takes a stake [Read Only] 21 Jan 2009 (Forum)
FIAT are to take a 35% stake in Chrysler, according an online business report: 'The Italian car company will get a 35 percent ownership stake in Chrysler and an opportunity to bring its Fiat and Alfa Romeo brands back to the United States through Chrysler?s dealership network. In exchange, Fiat will bring Chrysler what it needs to be a viable player in the evolving United States market, with its fuel-efficient engine technology and the engineering that goes into its small cars.' -
Toyota Yaris (1999 - 2005) - 2003 1.0 Keyed car 19 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Bodyshops don't work cheap. To get the rear quarter and door repaired after a keying incident on our old Fiesta Zetec-S, cost £650 at an indie bodyshop seven years ago! I took it down there with a view to paying for it myself, and ended up sticking it through on the insurance after I got the quote.
