  • Dealer Delivery Costs for New Cars 9 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Anyone have an idea how much a dealership pays to transport a new car to somewhere about 100 miles away and take back the old vehicle? I ask because the logic of lease companies means my new Mazda 6 will come from Leicester, even though the local Mazda dealer is a business centre and only 2 miles away.
  • BMW 320D trouble 12 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I have a BMW 320D bought at one year old. I bought it at new year from BMW. I think the last owner sold it because it has an unfixable fault. The car sometimes shakes, engine shakes, usually it runs fine. If you want to pull out into traffic then sometime the pick up is really bad.
  • Riding the clutch 3 Jul 2007 (Forum)
It really makes me cringe to see drivers, especially of new cars costing over £20k, riding the clutch on a hill waiting for the lights to go green. Apart from the risk of backing into the car behind I often wonder how long the clutch lasts on cars driven this way.
  • citroen ax cam belt 20 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Can anyone help? I have not much experience with car engines, but i do know the the basics(i think). My son has a citroen ax and the cam(timing) belt has failed. I need to know if this car is a non-interference or a interference engine so i replace the timing belt or scrap the car?

  • How Green was your ring road 3 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I would personally never drive a Classic car myself (too much hassle) but I do like seeing the old cars still around and I do appreciate the enormous effort their owners must put in. Is this just another new tax or will it really help emissions in the longer term.
  • Car "searched" before boarding ferry 13 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Went over to France two days ago from Poole. After checking in and before loading all cars were stopped and searched by Securitas badged staff, ostensiby for weapons. The old boy who "did" me couldn't have found a can of beans in Tesco. Didn't look under the car (no mirrors etc), didn't check the spare wheel well, nor under the rear seat.
  • Audi A2 problem 29 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hi I have had my A2 for 3 years. Always serviced by Audi Garage. The car has developed a coolant issue which apparently Audi can't resolve - they have been in contact with Audi Germany who say to replace the engine. As the car is 3 years old and has done 120k miles they are basically saying the car has had it.
  • How can it be so difficult to find a car 25 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Both Joe at auctioncarbuyer and I have been looking around and could not find one that?s in good/original condition and at book price. Now, I want a top spec car, with electric, heated (leather) seats, cd changer, auto-dimming mirrors and a 2-litre engine. I am looking at both the Mondeo Ghia X and Primera SVE/T-spec. Would any of the BRer have any other suggestion for a 3-4 year-old, top-spec cars, launched in this millennium and cost less than £5,000?
  • Cleaning cars 17 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Another thread refering to drying cars made me think, I clean my car every couple of weeks with a brush on the hose, I use a gentle plastic scourer (white, as opposed to the abrasive green Brillo type) to remove squashed bugs as well as on the wheels, I dry the windows with a teatowel and sometimes clean the front and rear screens with vinegar.
  • Registering a UK car in Germany 5 May 2005 (Forum)
This is good news for us, bad news for the Barchetta which is going to have to go :-( Now, the situation is this - my brother need someone to take his immaculate Astra Estate off him, as it is too old to be his company car. He'll give oit to me for buttons, and it's ideal for our (suddenly changed) My mad idea is to register it in Germany, where I live, and run it into the ground over the next three/four years, then scrap it.
  • Are Max power cars going out of fashion? 19 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Shocked when my I went to see my 18 year old son and he had converted his Nova GTE back from Max Power spec (neons, bad boy bonnet etc, etc) to completely standard. He said that his mates are doing the same and standard cars are now "back in".
  • Scrapyards 20 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Probably old news to lots of you, but I was very impressed. I won't give the name, but if you are looking a a scrapyard, the one in Hollybush Lane Aldershot is worth a look and had a very wide variety of cars.
  • Respray Quality 15 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Hi, Someone has keyed the side of my car and it will need filling (in places) and respraying. I want to get this done properly so it looks like new (like the rest of the car does). My old runabout had the bonnet and wing resprayed some years before I bought it, and over the years the resprayed pannels have faded, matted and discoloured.
  • Student looking for first car... 7 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Hi, This is my first post so i apologise if this is a much-discussed topic previously. i have also e-mailed Honest John himself but thought it would be interesting to hear other folks advice/experiences. I am a 22 year old med student at Glasgow uni. I have had my license 4 years now but haven't done much driving (on parents insurance, hence no NCB record). I am looking for a small modern car, either nearly new or brand new.
  • Ford Zetec models. 2 Jul 2003 (Forum)
To any Mondeo experts out there, do the late mondeo 2ltr ( around 99 model year on) have very slightly different engines than the early cars? My old What car magasines suggest a change from a 128bhp to a 136bhp engine. This might explain why hj's car gives up to 40 mpg and the 2ltr 97R mondeo i had didnt. The focus according to what car stats has only ever had the 128bhp engine.
  • Removing Swirls on Paintwork 28 May 2003 (Forum)
Some areas look as though they have been rubbed down with sandpaper and the paintwork has lost it's shine. In normal light it looks great. It's obviously been in a car wash every week for 3.5 years since new. Question is, how do I clear the swirls? Is a good old T-Cut and wax the best method? Or is there a particular product I could use? The car is black and non-metallic.
  • Focus not so good 6 May 2003 (Forum)
My company recently updated our Focus fleet cars to new Regs. I used to drive a (Y Reg) TD Focus Zetec but have now been given a TD LX (02 Reg) instead. The difference is truly amazing. My old car was great, drove like a demon and handled like a dream.
  • New Car 20 Jan 2002 (Forum)
My Aunt is just retiring and is looking to replace her '96N New Shape Rover 200 with a small car to last her pretty much through her retirement. She has asked my advice on it and wants a new or nearly new (under a year) car for about £9k. She would also like some nicities such as PAS, Air Con, Elec Windows, etc with if poss ABS and EBD.
  • Returning the car I traded in 10 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Hi all, right here goes, I just traded my Renault Megane in last Monday for a Vauxhall signum, the following morning on the way to work i noticed black smoke coming from the exhaust, I got a friend from work to have a look, the swirl bar was off and one of the pins it connects too was broken, my mate says it will probably need a new inlet manifold , then on the way home the car started squeeling every time I slowed down and even more black smoke when I sped up, I decided to contact the dealer I got the car from and told him about the problems, I took it up to him, he said he will fix it and asked me to buy a swirl bar off eBay and he will fit it, I said ok, while waiting for the bar to come, the car felt even worse, two days later I decided enough is enough, I contacted him and said I wanted my old car back, he said I can't do that, he said he spent money on my car putting it through mot, and fitting a new timing belt, he said he serviced it too, altogether he said he spent 500 pounds on my car, i just wanted my car back so now I'm down 500 quid, when I got my car home I checked it, there was no new timing belt on it, the service was not down because the oil was still black, my tyres where worn down so it couldn't have passed mot, he changed the wheels so it would pass mot then put my old ones back on, I know this because the bolts on my wheels had been changed and my locking nuts where missing, my question is, do I have any rights in getting my 500 pounds back, even if he had done work to it, I'm glad to get my car back, the signum would have ended up costing me a fortune
