  • A £1k car with decent cruise control. Possible? 26 Sep 2025 (Forum)
I drive trucks for a living and most of them have pretty good adaptive CC and I really miss this when driving my 15 year old fiesta. I've read lots of threads on bangernomics here and people say "don't swap an old car you know for an old car you don't" which makes perfect sense. However I think I'm willing to take a risk just for the comfort of cruise control.
  • second hand car problem 9 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I then called the garage, who agreed to bring the car back, letting me have my old car back as a courtesy car, whilst they sorted it out. Unfortunately, they broke the sensor removing it, so it then had to go to a toyota main dealer to have the work done, which meant that I was without the car for a week.

  • Largest High Mileage Car? 2 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Is there a record for a car with the highest mileage on? Also what is the highest mileage car you have ever seen for sale? I once saw a Skoda Octavia TDI with 420k on the clock for sale. Probably an old taxi.
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - A question for Screwloose & other 'old-time' mechs 15 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Whats striking for me, as a not-very-good fixer of cars, is how little it seems 'modern' garages can actually do in the way of fault diagnosis that isnt computer-driven- and more importantly, how often these diagnostic tools can prove to be wrong. I'm lucky in that I have an excellent local garage, staffed by both old-timers and young 'uns, that seem to get it right more often than not.
  • Vauxhall Corsa - Opinion please 21 Feb 2024 (Forum)
A friend told me this car is for chavs, not a 61 year old woman. What do you think? Thinking of buying this car and don't want to be ridiculed. Tia

  • Learners buying brand new cars - why? 15 Jun 2009 (Forum)
My dad just keeps going on about how I am spoilt with my 10 year old car because his first car only ran on 3 cylinders, needed 1 litre of oil a week, had no brakes etc etc. Also I know this just because I am an enthusiast but what is the fun in having a brand new car for a first car?
  • Volvo C70 MK1 - Changing automatic transmission fluid 5 Jan 2024 (Forum)
I have acquired a C70 convertible which I'll be using during the spring/summer, (have a Toyota Carina for the other seasons). My question relates to the automatic transmission fluid on the Volvo. The car is very smooth shifting, but there is no history of the fluid ever being changed. The car is nearly 20 years old. A famous American youtuber called Scotty Kilmer has said that changing transmission fluid on an old car when it's never been done before could lead to problems with the transmission shifting properly.
  • Honest John’s Motoring Agony Column 17-08-2019 Part 2 24 Aug 2019 (Forum)
On a 9 year old car - of course not. Furthermore the repair costs are £1800 parts and £1200 labour - total £3000. I wouldn't have thought a 2010 / 57k Meriva would be worth that much. My advice would have been to trade his car and use the £3000 to buy a newer model.
  • Toyota Verso 7 seater, 7 years old, 85k - selling at car auction vs webuyanycar.com? 27 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I got a quote from webuyanycar.com which doesn't look too bad, although I've read they try to beat you down for any little thing when you take it for...
  • Skoda Yeti - Anorak moment from me over Skoda TV advert 15 Aug 2013 (Forum)
This is the one where someone drives into a garage and asks the "geezer mechanics" whether they can fix his car. The scene then cuts to the mechanics smashing up the old car before cutting to the new Yeti as being the answer. But the old car appears to be a... Skoda (Favorit by the look of it) which IIRC sort of launched Skoda's journey to mass popularity 20-odd years ago.
  • Aveo 1.2ls new - Electric power steering stiff 27 Jul 2013 (Forum)
In April, bought a used new model aveo from a dealer for my old mate good price, 800 miles on clock few months old, so balance of 5 year warranty... After couple of weeks steering became very stiff, on advice from Mark Cox at chevrolet car taken into Evans Halshaw in St Albans, who thoroughly checked but found no fault.
  • Don't all rush! 8 Apr 2006 (Forum)
OK, thats not bad if the car is £1995 but as their stock is mainly comprised of 6 months to a year old top end mondeos/focuses at£13 to £18k,I can see another super sale next week.Just as I left, I saw a salesman look at a 2 year old mondeo priced at£17995 and then wrote on the screen, wait, yes, a bargain £17695!
  • How do I remove wheel wash marks 3 May 2005 (Forum)
I hate car automatic car washes. The wheel wash brushes decided to position themeselves halfway down the car instead of on the wheels. Result... two circular wax rings about 6 inches in diameter left on the paintwork.
  • Mondeo Estate - thumping and squealing 30 Nov 2004 (Forum)
It seems to do this more so when under load, or strangly enough, when the weather is cold. The rear tyres are still the original, so are now 4 years old, but are in good condition. The car has only done 53,000 miles and is a 2000 model, but the last of the old shape. Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks in anticipation
  • Honda Accord Type R 13 May 2003 (Forum)
Hi Guys, I currently own a 7 year old Audi A4 1.8 but desperately need to get back to a sporty car. As the family is growing we need another 4 door saloon and the Accord seems to fit the bill perfectly. I've found a couple at main dealers around the £10k mark.
  • Warranty replacement parts, can I expect them to b 28 Sep 2001 (Forum)
The garage informed me and ford confirmed that this was all that was now manufactured. Am I in a position to insist that Ford replace like for like? Bearing in mind that the car is just over two years old. The change has affected the ?sporty? character of the car, and will no doubt impact on the resale value. Any advice would be very welcome. Thanks Nick

  • Best kind of second hand car to buy ? 17 Jan 2017 (Forum)
    2) A vehicle with high mileage tarted up to appear brand new. 3) An over used or abused rental or motability car that has not been doubtfully cared for. 4) A car out of PCP contract.  5) A "demonstrator" 6) A vehicle over three years old with a new MOT and a detailed maintenance history plus dealer's guarantee 7) An approved used car with one previous owner that has done 18000 miles and has not YET had a service.
