  • Urgent! finance at dealer question? 8 Mar 2004 (Forum)
we want to arrange a loan with her local bank and pay cash for the car at a lower apr. can we do this as we have signed the finance agreement, cos they still need the proff of address which is part of the finance is it not? and 1 final question, if the back said no, can we take a cheque from the AA for example down and we wouldn\'t have to wait for it to clear?
  • Jaguar XJ - mileage discrepancy 9 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Hi Could you give me a little advice, please? I bought a second-hand Jaguar 5 months ago on finance. I asked the finance company for a settlement figure as i was going to sell the car as I'm looking to move house. A trader said he could buy the car and settle the finance but he called me and said he does not want the car as it's flagged on the Hpi report as a mileage discrepancy.
  • Handing Car back to finance Company 1 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I have still over a 1 year off payments due on my vauxhall vectra, but want to get a new car. I have £2000 of savings which I could use to pay off car finance or put towards new car. It was suggested that I could hand my car back to finance company as i've paid more than half. Has anyone done this? Does to go against my credit rating? Whats the down falls?

  • Dimwits guide to car finance please? 25 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I've checked out HJ's how to buy section which gets me started but I'm hoping someone can steer me to a site which goes through the ins and outs/pitfalls of buying with a loan AND specifically clearing finance when selling and buying another in the future. I've always had co cars but last yr bought a cheapish car with a cash lump sum, but I'd like something more expensive so this will be my first journey into the delights of car finance.
  • Disclosing car accident to finance company? 1 Apr 2022 (Forum)
I read terms and conditions of a finance agreement and it says that in an event of a loss or accident I must inform them of that. Just out of curiosity, if you’re insured and the insurance takes care of it why do I need to tell them? I thought with hp there’s less obligation
  • Car Finance - PCP? 30 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I am looking to buy a new car and on the face of it PCP looks the best way of sourcing my finance. I have thought long and hard about it but only seem to be able to come up with advantages. What's not so good about taking out a personal contract plan? Thanks, Tim

  • This vehicle has finance recorded against it. ??? 22 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I viewed a car today with a private buyer, priced competitively and I am interested so did a check on ukvehicle.com It came back :  This vehicle has finance recorded against it but the details show that the oustanding finance is on another car (different make/model ) that had the same private plate reg number on it at some point. The car now has a different (and generic) reg number.
  • Fiats, Alfas, Land Rovers, Jags and Jeeps - Finance not recorded 21 Feb 2011 (Forum)
The motor trade should beware buying "finance free" Fiats, Alfas, Land Rovers, Jags and Jeeps as Fiat's finance house FGA Capital, which handles new and late-used for these marques seems to have failed to record its credit agreements... After failing to lodge records with vehicle check agencies Fiat finance house FGA Capital UK Ltd, which also provides finance for Land Rover, Jaguar and Chrysler-Jeep is using 34-year-old case law to sue dealers who innocently buy their "finance clear" second hand cars FGA Capital UK Ltd, the finance house jointly owned by Fiat and a French bank is suing car dealers who have innocently bought vehicles marked "finance free" - even though it admits negligence in never recording their having financed the car with the standard "vehicle check" agencies HPI or Experian.
  • Hpi Recorded on Security Register 21 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I've just carried out an HPi check on a car I was intending to buy at a big auction tomorrow. It's a finance repo and it's showing as owing finance still which I guess is understandable until the finance co receive the funds. More worryingly though, it is also coming up as being recorded on the 'Security Register' - I hadn't even heard of this before but apparently car rental firms put their own cars on there to stop them being offered for sale illegally.
  • Nissan X-Trail - car on finance, engine light comes on 30 Oct 2024 (Forum)
I'm thinking the first moral of the story is always part finance a used car no matter how caked up with money you are as the finance company will make sure the dealer does the right thing. The finance co didn't just say "sorry we can't help you" so they must be doing "something".
  • Letter from a finance company 11 Jan 2005 (Forum)
SWMBO has received a letter today from a finance company that we have never dealt with. The letter advises that they have received info that my wife has bought a car that is subject to a finance agreement with them. They have enclosed a Category 5 fraud questionnaire for my wife to complete.
  • Another question about car finance and purchasing 23 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I want to buy a new car with a list price of £15,290.  With the manufacturers special four year 0% finance HP deal, there is a £1,250 contribution towards the deposit of 40%.   Is that it, or is there room to negotiate the actual purchase price down as well, so that £15,290 becomes say £14,500 off which the £1,250 is taken?

  • Audi A5 - Car Finance - Right to Withdraw 26 Dec 2017 (Forum)
Hi all I've just bought a 6 month old A5. Originally I was going to pay ££ but the finance option appeared to make too much sense - £1.25k from Finance, and 2 free services. My intent was to immediately settle it (incurring very little interest), but having called I can't get a clear answer on whether settling (they call it using my right to withdraw) negates the original incentives of the deposit contribution and the 2 services, vs waiting until the 14 day cooling off period ends and then recalling to settle.
  • HPI showing finance on my car 18 Sep 2006 (Forum)
The dealer called me after having done the deal to say my car was showing that there was outstanding finance. The finance having been arranged in March this year. I have owned the car since last November and paid cash, for which I have a handwritten signed receipt from the previous private owner. I am hoping that the dealer can discuss with HPI on Monday and get confirmation that this is an error.
  • Dealers - prefer finance or outright? 10 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I'm wondering what dealers generally prefer, a client that can buy there or then - or one that goes for their finance? I guess the real question is do I let a dealer know that I'm in a position to buy outright, or insist on setting a price before discussing how payment takes place...?   Ta.
