  • dvla reporting older drivers 29 Mar 2018 (Forum)
She has a certain type of eye problem, which means she cannot see in her central field of vision. Its an accident waiting to happen. Drives the car into the garage and stops when she hits the back wall. Reverses out and hits almost every car on the street. Drives in first gear and has many many clutches. Every year at the mot it gets hundreds of pounds worth of body work done. due to scrapes etc.
  • Honda Jazz - Jazz manual gearbox. 19 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I REALLY don't want to go through all that "clutch/ gearbox/warranty/ will they/ won't they fix it at their expense" malarkey again.  Naturally when we test drive the Jazz tomorrow I'll be listening for any gearbox noise.  Ta muchly.
  • Ford Focus 2013 ecoboost 1.0 125 - Clutch problems with Ford Focus ecoboost 125 19 Jan 2018 (Forum)
My car is now back at the dealers & they report the clutch plate is worn down to the metal & the flywheel is also damaged, after just 9k miles & 12 months since the previous work done, but there is no sign of any fluid leakage. I am inclined to believe what they say. Just my wife & myself drive the car & we each have over 40 years driving mainly in manual cars, are not heavy footed (but cannot prove it) & am at a loss to understand how a clutch can be destroyed completely in 9K miles.
  • VW Golf SV, Audi A3 Sportback, Mazda 6 - First car advice...Golf SV, A3 Sportback, Mazda 6 13 Jan 2018 (Forum)
So, my original choice is Alfa Romeo 159, however friends and forum discussions I've read have told me to avoid this manufacturer (subtle Alfa bashing perhaps, but I don't want to look silly by dismissing their concerns completely, only to regret the decision down the line) I'm down to Golf SV or A3 Sportback. Also heard Mazda 6 is a fun drive so willing to look into this. I did not like Honda Civic during test drive. I have a budget of around 5K, plus a big chunk for insurance, 2200 going by quote from confused.com (long story...I had several brushes with my now stolen motocycle in the past year) Thanks in advance!
  • Mitsubishi L200 - Brake failure 10 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Left me a bit shaken as also use the pickup on public roads, amazed at the difference when 50% of the braking was lost and also by how much the pedal dropped. dont think if i had been driving within a normal distance from another car i would have been able to stop in time. not sure if the experience is useful to anyone but its certainly made me think while driving a bit more about what I would do if they failed again.
  • No idea, help! - What car next? 23 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Hello all looking for some advice on what car to get next, looking for something thats sport, can get early to mid 30's mpg when taking it easy. Budgets £6k, insurance group isn't an issues as I am 31. Currently driving a civic gt type-r. It's a great car but no mater how I drive it just won't hit 30mpg lol. I love my 3.0ltr z4 and taking it easy would hit 33mpg marker but just need the option of rear seats, even if they are uncomfortable shelf seats they will only be needed one/twice a year for relatively short people.
  • Weekend with a campervan 1 Sep 2017 (Forum)
It was good to have a loo and shower, although filling it with water was a pain (although that's partly our fault for not having a decent water carrier). And it was fun! Driving the thing was a lot more straightforward than i had anticipated. It was a 6 berth converted transit, so seemed huge, and it didn't help that I decided it was a good idea to drive it back from the depot across Birmingham!

  • 2006 Mondeo 2.0 HDI Diesel, 30,000 miles - 2006 Mondeo 2.0 HDI "pulling"/"jerking" 4 May 2017 (Forum)
Hi I recently bought this car, was impressed with the low mileage and ir ran smoothly on the test drive, it also has a full service history and is generally immaculate. MOT was April 2016. All had been fine until I got onto a motorway, at 70mph in 5th gear. I was maintaining this speed with just my foot pressed lightly on the accelerator.
  • FIAT Panda 1.2 Dynamic - Odd knocking noise with road speed 18 Mar 2017 (Forum)
The noise sounds like a knocking / thudding sound from the front end, offside I think. It happens when I first start driving the car from cold, and the knocks speed up and slow down in relation to road speed. I can also feel each thud / knock through the throttle pedal. After about a miles worth of driving the noise goes away, and the car seems fine.
  • Vauxhall Combo van (2002 - ) - 05 1.3 16v cdti - loss of power and EML 27 Jan 2017 (Forum)
Now the problem i am haveing is im feeling a slight loss of power every now and then like diesel is blocked for 1 sec or so, but now it's also cutting out whilst driving (Car with spanner going through it sign lights up). It restarts right away and drives and the cutting out seems random. Ive been and got the codes but the mechanic said he cant tell me what part it is exactly as its a new system and codes and not on the computer as of yet.
  • volvo s60 - Skidding Issue 28 Nov 2016 (Forum)
I have found that lately I have been experiencing light skidding on uneven surfaces whilst driving. I have 4 good tread tyres with the correct pressure around. I am not experiencing issues when braking. I find that when I drive over a non-smooth section of road (small holes, grates, joins in tarmac etc) that the car feels like it skates/skids very slightly...it does this on dry surfaces.
  • Focus 1.8 TDCI 53 Plate - Noisy ticking sound and sluggish 27 Sep 2016 (Forum)
The other day driving to work thought I could here a ticking noise for the engine. Turned down the rather high volume on my stereo and low and behold a rather noisy ticking sound. My first reaction was that the oil must be low so topped up a litre.
  • Worst car you have ever owned or driven? 3 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Whats the worst car you've ever had the misfortune to drive?  For me it was a then brand new '12 plate Nissan Qashqai 1.6 manual. I had to drive it up and down the country for a few weeks.  I found it utterly gutless, steering far too sensitive (maybe i'm too used to Land Rovers but a quick look at the sat nav and i'm approaching the hard shoulder!).
  • KIA Venga and a new puppy - A long drive, an old corsa and good manners 31 Jul 2016 (Forum)

  • That is the question.... - So the kids have left home......... 23 Jul 2016 (Forum)
The kids have all but left home. The trusty old Toyota Avensis verso has killed it's water pump and drive belt plus maybe a few other things. even if it gets fixed it's going as we don't need a seven seater junk carrier. The wife has said now you can buy a car you want...but it has to have 4 doors.
  • Audi A3 Cabriolet - Audi A3 engine failure 6 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Audi France advised there was no pressure in the cylinders and the engine would require replacing. I'm in no doubt the failure is related to the oil warnings and it was naive of me to drive the car to France. I'm now left with replacing the engine with a reconditioned one. Given my naievety, is there anything I should be aware of and is there anywhere i can follow this up with Audi to seek any type of compensation?
  • Peugeot 407 SW (2004 - ) - 04 1.6 funny noise - do i need a new gearbox? 10 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Hi, ive owned a 407SW for about 9 months, its an 04 and done 88,000 miles, ive had a few problems with it since buying it, clutch, ball joint, starting motor, all in all tho to drive is a great car, good looking, and smooth, however my problem.. lately when ive been driving im getting a noise coming from either the engine compartment or the wheel arch which is a vrum vrum vrum noise, almost as if something is rubbing as the wheels go round, but it only does it when im using the accelartor, and gets faster as the car goes faster, but if i take my foot of the pedal the noise fades away, which would indicate to me that its not actually something catching on the wheels, otherwise it would be doing it all the time.. the noise has started to get louder, it doesnt however do this all the time, most times but not all the time.. does this sound like a flywheel problem to anyone, id take it to the garage but they want a million quid just to look at it.. your ideas and input would be appreciated.
  • Mitsubishi ASX keyless - Dash cam single or duo 21 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Having searched the web, Im going round in circles. All I want is something to fit behind driving mirror (small) for forward driving, not too bothered about rear now,but I dont want to have to take it out every time I leave the car, like I do my sat nav which would share the other USB point. Was prepared for them to hard wire it in but it looks like I shall have to buy a decent dual USB plug to go in my cigar lighter and have wire dangling down my screen!!
  • Vauxhall Vectra C 1.9 cdti 120 bhp - Vectra 1.9 cdti 2004 120 bhp hard to start please 1 Feb 2016 (Forum)
This happened 4 times. I left it a minute and tried again, this time it fired up and revved, I was able to drive home no issues, 5 miles. Started fine this morning. Parked at work all day, started car at 5pm and it turned over but would not rev past 1500 rpm while I was sat. I tried restarting 3 times, same.
