Chrysler Ypsilon 2012 plate - Bad condensation inside the car - cathy mc
Its it normal to be getting bad condensation inside the car on a cold night or a rainy night? Its a brand new car and i didn't expect this to be happening. I can clear the windows drive a 2minute journey to a shop and come out an hour later and have to clear the windows all over again

Almost certainly a small amount of water, somewhere in the car. Check all carpets, underlays and the boot including the wheel well for the spare, if you have one. If you find wet carpets you then have the problem of finding the leak bit on a 2012 car with a warranty that will not be for you to do

In a small car with windows closed, it will be normal - had the same in a Yaris and Matiz.

If air con, set it to fresh air NOT recirculate, keep fan going.

Just check mats are dry on floor and in boot. It is possible you may have a leak.

I'd hazard a guess that the recirculatory function is set on the heating controls, ie the heating system is not taking in any fresh air.

Or, if fitted the air con is set to economy mode.

99 times out of 100 its the heating air con controls that are not set correctly.

Yes - recirculate will cause a quick mist-up but, coincidentally I have just been to my laundry ladies with some damp ironing. Put it in the boot and the car was steamed up within 5 minutes, just the damp from 4 spun and tumbled shirts so it doesn't take much. A damp carpet could do the same I am sure

The floor mats and carpets are dry and i have taken all liquids spray bottle etc out the car and i am still getting some condensation. I have changed all the air con settings as well so i guess its just have to put up with it because its a wee car. Thanks for all the advice its helped slightly

My experiences of condensation (on various cars) have been down to:

Rubber mats and the "pooling" of water from shoes

Heater vents not set to floor to dry out the shoes and mats when wet

Blocked water drain channels around the windscreen, front wings and water going into heater air intake and the pollen filter

Mine did this the other night. I noticed my air vent setting was set to 'recirculate'. After I changed that, it was fine.
